I had Ann cut my hair and it was stunning. She was incredibly nice and friendly. I went in for a haircut after not getting a haircut for about 7 months. My hair was in really bad shape. I wanted to get distinct layers like I had before to add volume to my hair but Ann convinced me to get shorter/less distinct layers. At first I was unsure about the length of the layers they weren't really discernible but I'm so glad I trusted Ann my hair is really healthy and I love it! read more

I'm not usually too picky about where I get my hair cut, I'll go to where ever is close, but this salon has been my favorite in Kalamazoo thus far! Really friendly stylists, attention to detail, and skill. They provide a warm atmosphere with delicious complimentary coffee and tea drinks. You kind of black out in sheer bliss during a nice head scrub. Most importantly, they listen. Too many times my "trim" has left me 2 inches shorter than expected. My stylist cut my hair just the way I wanted and we added a few subtle highlights in the front- very pleased with the outcome! I'm planning to switch back to this salon regularly. read more

I had gotten a terrible haircut and just did not want to go back to the previous salon. I just moved into town so I was feeling pretty nervous about finding a stylist. I called and was able to get an appointment that day. I can't remember her name exactly but she did an amazing job! My hair hasn't looked this great in years! I was so incredibly happy. She framed my face really well and tapered my hair. She really took the time to listen to me and wa patient while I tried to express what I wanted. Just FYI, this salon has moved to a new location! It's now at the Forum Building on Rose just north of Crosstown. I've been coming to Avante for just over 4 years now, and I have to say I could not be more happier. My stylist has always been Diane, and she always knows exactly what I want done with my hair. And her foils always turn out beautiful, and the exact shade of blonde I want! They're a Redken salon, so she always gets to go to Redken shows in exotic locales like Las Vegas and New York to learn all sorts of new tricks. When I started college in Chicago, I'd always put off getting my hair done there because I'd rather go back to Diane at Avante. And when I finally moved to London, I fretted about what to do! Luckily I've been able to make trips to visit back home, and every single time Diane's been accommodating enough to make room for me in her schedule. And I mustn't forget their prices are always very reasonable! Overall, this is a lovely little salon! read more

I went to Avante for the first time not knowing what to expect. I had found the salon online after some good reviews, and I cannot speak highly enough of it! I had Ellie and she was so sweet and helpful. She involved me in the decision making process more than any stylist I've worked with, and she gave me a lot of personalized advice based on my hair and recommended products and tips and tricks for me to do. My hair looks and feels so healthy and amazing now. The environment at the salon is very warm and welcoming. I definitely highly recommend!! read more

Kristen was absolutely fabulous. I went in to get a trim and ask questions about booking a bridal appointment for my August wedding. She asked great questions and showed genuine interest. The Avante website has a lot of pictures of past up-dos and they're fabulous. They offered referral discount cards for my friends and family to check out Avante. I moved to Kalamazoo about 6 months ago and have made several trips back to Metro Detroit to see my hair stylist. Realistically, not going to continue to do that so looked to yelp for some help finding someone here. I ended up at Avante and was put with Makela. FYI... I was charged 50.00 as a new client to ensure I wouldn't stand them up. Honestly I almost cancelled my appointment I was a little put off by this practice. I do understand why they did it and I did keep my appointment. Makela was super nice and very knowledgeable about hair color and seemed quite comfortable color matching my hair color. She was attentive to all I told her regarding my color and cut and the direction I am willing to go in. I also told her as the stylist she is driving she is the hair expert not me and I'm open to almost anything. She did a nice job on the cut and the color. I was really pleased and recommend this salon wholeheartedly. The whole salon is attentive and concerned for their clients. Looking forward to my next appointment. read more

This is by far the worst mani/pedi experience I've ever had. From the time I walked in, I was well aware that I was the last appointment of the day and that I was the one keeping everyone there. Then it was one disaster after the next. The woman doing my toes didn't think to put the flip flops on first, messed up several toes when she finally did put them on, and then tried to correct the nails by applying polish over top coat. On top of that, I had several toes messed up b/c they do not want to splurge on the toe dividers, so instead they wrap cotton between your toes. Apparently they do not know that cotton and nail polish do not mix. The cotton isn't the only way they go cheap. Instead of soaking your feet in a whirlpool tub with bath salts, they soak in plain old Kzoo tap water. After the 10th toe got messed up, I asked to speak to the manager. She was completely rude and instead of trying to make things right, she just defended their incompetence. After being there over an hour without even having my toes done and with several that still needed to be fixed, I gave up. They did refund my $65. read more

Sheri has cut and colored my hair for 13 years. She has set the standard for me and even though I now live out of state I book appointments whenever I am home. She's so professional, keeping notes about my choices and decisions we've made so every appt feels like it picked up from the last one even if it's been six months. She's helpful if I want a small change it a big one and she's excellent at repeating success once I'm in a groove. I've had short hair and long, treated and untreated. She's the best. I'd recommend her over any other stylist and salon. I was loyal to Panapoulus for years, before I met Sheri. And I've been to salons in Toronto and Minneapolis. She's a star and well worth a trip to Kalamazoo. Have a friend needing or wanting a new look. Book them time with Sheri. You'll find the salon as down to earth, warm and stylish as she is. read more

Sheri, Ann, Kristen, Mckayla, Hannah and Ellie (I am certain I am forgetting someone) are ALL excellent and and I have had all of these girls at different times and have always been very, very pleased with all services they provide. Their conversations during services are delightful. They listen to what you are looking for and give tips and ideas to meet your expectations. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this salon, including providing refreshments such as fresh coffee in ceramic mugs and ice water in real glassware. You will absolutely love everyone who works here and everything about the salon. And also there is a bonus if you are blessed with curly hair! The salon is modern and festive. There were handmade star garlands hanging from the windows. The salon recently had a Pinterest inspired party where they gave hair, nail, and make-up tips.
