Bring the kids! Wide-eyed kiddos were sitting on police motorcycles, in police cars, in fire trucks, touring the police station & generally having a ball. Police Officers & Firefighters were on hand to answer all questions & give explanations of what they do and how they do it. (A little boy introduced himself to a Police Officer & told him he wanted to be a Firefighter.) I enjoyed an excellent free hot dog & glass of lemonade. I think my favorite booth was the one with the stuffed real coyote, where I learned everything about urban wildlife. I thought I knew a lot but now I know more. A couple of golden labs were barking at the coyote in the glass case. The Shakey Quakey truck was there, simulating the experience of an earthquake....but I wasn't brave enough to try it out, afraid I might yack my hot dog. The PVE Police Station is right next to Malaga Cove plaza. You can walk a few blocks downhill to the ocean. As far as locations, it doesn't get much better. The opportunity to meet your local Police Officers & Firefighters doesn't get much better, either. I had a great time today! Thanks!! See ya next year.

I had an extremely frustrating and unfair experience with parking enforcement in Huntington Beach…read more Back in July, I did pay for parking. I only had cash, so my friend paid the $23 parking fee for me. Unfortunately, when entering my license plate number, he was off by one letter. When we returned to my car, I found a $58 parking ticket -- despite the fact that parking had been paid for. This was clearly an honest, verifiable mistake, not an attempt to avoid paying. At the time, I planned to resolve it the next time I was in the area. However, I live nearly 45 miles away, and life got in the way. When I later went to register my car, I discovered there was now a DMV hold, and the ticket had increased to $83. I immediately contacted the police department, explained that parking had been paid and that the issue was a one-letter license plate error. I was told there was nothing that could be done because I didn't contest it within 21 days -- even though the ticket was issued under incorrect circumstances. When I asked to see a judge, I was told that option was "no longer available" and that my only choice was to pay. No review. No discretion. No accountability. This doesn't feel like enforcement -- it feels like extortion. A system that acknowledges no human error and provides zero recourse after an arbitrary deadline is fundamentally unfair. Holding someone's DMV registration hostage over a paid parking mistake is excessive and unreasonable. I'm incredibly disappointed in how rigid and dismissive this process is, and I hope the city seriously reconsiders how situations like this are handled.

They keep our city 'one that many call home, and many visit from around the world" SAFE!!! And of course, how can we post a review without, stating that those summer uniforms are the best!!!!, Who doesn't love those uniforms. Yet on a serious note. I agree with the poster below... most of the officers here are amazing, yet there are a handful, that clearly don't do the department any justice. My only complaint (as silly as it is), is their Facebook page. It's not engaging with others. It's cold and not welcoming. I also follow the Huntington Beach PD on my facebook, and there is such a huge difference in the way they (HB) interacts with their neighborhood (via facebook). I really think Newport Beach, needs to take a page from HB. To become neighborhood friendly and not so standoff'ish, this would only benefit the department and our beautiful city. That's it, that's really all I wanted to say. STAY SAFE out there, these are crazy times.

Part 2. See Part 1 for backstory…read more In short, Det. Henry, Fletcher, Prince, Sgt. Depweg, and Lt. Krallman engaged in egregious corruption/perjury to brush my case under the rug where I was nearly fatally attacked, with skull fractures and a TBI in what turned out to be premeditated, to save their stolen valor fake "Marine" Aryton Bryant (corpsman who later got kicked out of the navy) and his 3 junkie friends who attacked me, 2 of which had criminal records and done hard time, from ever being charged. I called 911 5 times, getting the call records for these after Det. Henry gaslighted me, telling me I never called 911 and misremembered due to my concussion. I called family to take me to the ER almost an hour after my initial 911 call, as no police/paramedics responded (despite NBPD driving by me at least once) and my coward "friend" Attila Raksi going to the beach to smoke to calm his nerves, as I could've had a brain bleed and died. NBPD officers showed up to the ER over 2 hours after my initial 911 call, and wrote a report my dad's retired Irvine PD Detective friend said was an embarrassment, looked like a 5-year-old wrote it, and was highly inappropriate for the severity of my injuries. A few days later came my first of 3 meetings with Det. Henry (he lied under oath in my lawsuit deposition, saying it was over 10 meetings). Henry: -Didn't start investigating my case until the day before our meeting, seemed mad he had to do some actual work -He'd often interrupt or rudely exhale and look at his watch as I talked -Was shockingly hostile/rude -I felt like he was subtly, implicitly trying to solicit a bribe at one point. Shocked, I didn't respond; then he implied since I made one unintentional omission in my rushed 3min 16sec recap of the 30min attack I was therefore being dishonest, and he wouldn't let the case go through with the DA. He later cut all this out of the subpoenaed audio recording along with other parts I distinctively remember. -Practically smiling telling me the DA rejected my case, implied him having 3 daughters was a major factor -Didn't even bother to google the attackers' names or check their social media where I found shocking evidence -Refused to let me offer a reward, mumbled some b.s. about having to do that through city hall -Lied about the accuracy of google location data saying it's only accurate to within 1700 meters; refused to send a warrant to google for this data -Let me mistakenly sue the wrong guy, refusing to give us Adam's correct name -Never reviewed my 911 calls or the responding P.O.'s audio recording (they claim the body cam footage didn't come out) -Still thinks the attack happened in the subway parking lot In the recordings they did turn over, Henry disturbingly, relentlessly bullies me, while awkwardly trying to befriend his "Marine" buddy, Aryton Bryant. Henry comforted Aryton, telling him if he ever gets worried to just call him, and gave him his direct line number. Henry basically told my mom and I to not bother him, that he's really busy and would forget about this case by next week. In Adam Tomlinson's recording he cussed nonstop, bragged about how tough he is, what a good fighter he is, how Brazilian Ju Jitsu doesn't work on him because he wrestled in high school; Henry hid all this from the DA. In their recordings Henry literally guides their statements. Victoria Bardales said "then I pushed him-" and Henry interrupted with "you held him to keep him from advancing." At the end he reassures them it's okay to tell the others he'll call and implicitly tells them what arguments to focus on. They didn't provide video footage of anyone's statements, only easily editable audio recordings from his PUMA recorder. I guess he was too lazy to edit the recordings of my next 4 meetings (2 with Depweg) as NBPD never produced those despite my subpoena. In my 2 calls with Depweg, he was 5x worse than Henry, totally losing it and screaming his head off at me with personal insults after I caught him in an inconsistency. It'd be a major embarrassment for them if that call got out, so was no wonder why they disobeyed the subpoena and didn't hand it over. Depweg even told me "you're making accusations about a Detective? I'd be really careful" and threatened to find something to charge me with, a threat they eventually made good on, charging me with 2 felonies I'll get into in Part 3. I was an analyst for the Irvine Company, then a CFA Portfolio Manager, and had never been in a fight in my life or involved in any kind of charges, lawsuits, or court cases, and couldn't understand why they were treating me so poorly. Maybe it was due to their animosity towards guys who went to college and never served, and/or due to how beat up I was, still clearly apparent in my first meeting. A holocaust survivor said "if you think of people as less than human, it's easier to treat them that way. Reinforcing that idea is their appearance and condition, regardless of the cause." Part 3 coming.

I have a restraining order from Las Vegas, and after multiple violation reports (close to 12), I had to advocate for myself just to get a detective assigned. If I hadn't called to follow up, I never would have even had one. I've only spoken to the detective once, and while I understand restraining order violations can take time, the lack of communication and support has been discouraging. On another occasion, I was physically assaulted in broad daylight on Broadway and Hermosa while with my daughter. There were witnesses, video footage, and the man was arrested -- yet I've seen him twice since then. That experience left me shaken, and the fact that I've run into him again has only made me feel less safe. There is also a man downtown who frequently harasses people, including me. I witnessed him chasing people with scissors and threatening others. Despite being arrested, I've seen him several times since. When I called the police about him threatening me, the officer who responded (Officer Leraas) was dismissive, condescending, and made me feel like I was wasting his time. He even said, "I don't know why you call either," which made me feel even more unsafe. He also insinuated that I may have done something to deserve being assaulted, which was completely inappropriate and offensive -- no one deserves to be attacked, especially in front of their child. Even when I escalated my concerns to a sergeant, I was told that "both sides could have handled it better." But I am not the one in uniform, trained to deal with stressful situations -- the officers are. I expect professionalism, empathy, and at the very least, to feel that my concerns are being taken seriously. Instead, I feel like the LBPD does not prioritize public safety or the well-being of victims. It seems like crime is getting worse, and the way officers respond reflects poorly on the department. I understand they cannot always arrest someone on the spot, but they can absolutely make victims feel heard, respected, and protected. Sadly, that has not been my experience.
