I'm not a religious person, but I found my experience with the PRC to be a GODSEND. I received help from the center during the first part of my pregnancy and I am so grateful for their charitable help. The center is founded on a pro-life and Christian ideology, however, I never found their philosophy to ever be imposing on me at all. The staff members at the center were all kind and caring and I felt they had the most sincere desire to help me with my pregnancy.
I walked into the PRC in desperation for an ultrasound after suffering a miscarriage with my first pregnancy in early 2018. As a result of the miscarriage, I quit my job and was determined to focus all my energy on starting a family. My husband and I tried for half a year to get pregnant, so we were ecstatic when we found out we were once again expecting. Unfortunately, because I quit my job, I had lost my health insurance from work and under the Affordable Care Act, I couldn't purchase private health insurance until the next open enrollment period which would be months away. I was 18 weeks pregnant, without health insurance and in despair as I needed to get an ultrasound for my baby (my husband runs a business so I couldn't get on his insurance and our income was too high for govt assistance).
Feeling hopeless, I first called Planned Parenthood but was told my household income was too high for their income-based ultrasounds and I'd have to pay over $600 out-of-pocket, so I contacted the PRC after seeing the center on a drive through Beaverton. They gave me a free ultrasound and provided me with caring support after the ultrasound and during the course of my pregnancy. They offer counseling for dads, an incredible parenting class (which meets every week), and I was given a huge newborn layette as my baby's due date came closer. I always felt comfortable and welcomed and was treated with open-arms and an open heart by everybody at the center. They're run by the most caring people (mostly volunteer, I believe) and they have an extraordinary network of people in the community who help with their funding and services. From the minute I called the PRC, I was given so much support and kindness that I will forever be grateful for their assistance in my time of need. From the bottom of our hearts, my baby and I thank you!! read more
