It was a rainy Saturday in maple country, just an hour or two out of breakfast when we rolled into the restaurant's parking. We heard good things about this place so were eager to try it out.
We had a seat in this charmingly re-purposed bungalow and pored over the menu, excited at each suggestion despite our full bellies. I chose the highly acclaimed Lobster Bisque to start and a confit of duck. The Missus had a wonton soup (of incomparable broth) and a shrimp filled pastry puff.
The bisque? Delicious, rich, and creamy with a lobster claw the size of my thumb. This was a soup to make a Maritimer pine for home.
The wonton soup asserts the Missus, had the best and most fragrant broth she'd ever tasted. High praise indeed!
The confit was presented with a mountain of fresh salad greens and hillocks of eye-poppingly yummy potato salad. The duck's skin was perfectly crispy and the meat was melt in your mouth delicious. I thought for sure that this was Brome Lake duck, but the owner informed me that his duck was sourced from Marieville, thus allowing him to charge $9.00 LESS per plate. Wow, hella good deal right there!
There was also meant to be a serving of rice on the plate but I begged it off given that I was still digesting breakfast.
The Missus' puff pastry starter was also excellent I'm told.
The owner was friendly, welcoming and spoke both French and English with equal ease. All in all a brilliant lunch! read more
