I recently bought a replacement cooling fan assembly for my wife's van and they gave me the wrong part. I looked up the part number for the van, on the fan manufacturers website, and called Autozone back and explained that they had sold me the wrong part. I should've double checked it before leaving the store, because the part they sold me was around $40 cheaper than when I priced it before. They were super courteous, and had the correct part, so I asked what the difference would be, because I knew the right part was more, and they said that they would make up the difference, because of the inconvenience. On August 26,2017 I went into the AutoZone store in union Missouri and ask the sales clerk If they carried antifreeze or coolant for a BMW X5. He typed some stuff into the computer and then led the way to a section of antifreeze and pointed to the AutoZone brand antifreeze. He then asked me if I wanted the kind with the $5 mail in rebate or the 899 special. I told him specifically that I wanted whatever what's most compatible with my car. I followed him to the registers paid for my purchase and proceeded to leave. I then asked him if he knew anything about BMWs and if he new how to check the fluids and such in a BMW. He said that he was familiar and walked outside. He unscrewed the cap. He then filled the antifreeze Reservoir completely full with no regards to the floating device. I asked him if it was too full and he said no and proceeded to put on the cap. He then went inside the store to get a roll of napkins and came out to clean the antifreeze off my motor. I left the store and went home. Sunday morning my son and I left and went to St Louis to go swimming. My car started making a belt noise on our way home and idling very very roughly. I found that to be odd since my car had never made any noise before but I thought that possibly when he overfilled the antifreeze some of it could have gotten on one of the belts or pulleys and that it would stop with some time and that I would get it checked out. Monday morning I went outside to leave to go to work and when I started my car it made a loud screeching belt noise, a couple other noises and I could smell burning plastic coming from the motor. There was also antifreeze pouring out of the motor. The dash light warning system came on and an antifreeze and coolant light came on as well. I was upset and called several mechanics and asked what they thought and was told it was more than likely the wrong coolant and that it had eaten away at the seals of the water pump. I called AutoZone and a woman answered. I asked her if they carried antifreeze for a BMW X5. I could hear the girl typing a couple things and entering the information into the computer and then she came back to tell me that I need to go to the dealer for antifreeze for that car. I found that to be extremely troubling since I just asked the salesman in-person the same thing on Saturday. I then called the manager at AutoZone and spoke directly to him and he stated that if I wanted to have Diagnostics done and towing he could cover those bills. I then proceeded to have my car towed to a shop in St Louis. I called the manager again to have him call the tow Mgr with his information because I didn't think it was fair for me to have to pay the tow bill out-of-pocket considering what they had done to my car. He then changed his mind and told me that I needed to get a hold of corporate. I told him that I am single parent and I really needed them to do the right thing. They have now refused to cover any and all bills and I have paid $300 in tow bills, I have lost wages, I've had to get a loaner car and I have $1300 in repair costs relating to this incident. I would like for them to merely pay tow and repair costs relating to this matter and they have yet to do so. Buyer beware this business does not care about its customers.
