I had to return an alternator that my wife purchased when her vehicle broke down while out of town…read more The reason for the return is because once she was returning from her trip the vehicle gave trouble again and had to be sent to the dealer where the new alternator was diagnosed as being the problem. We emailed a copy of the receipt to the dealership, but Advance refused in Fayetteville to exchange the alternator unless the original purchaser (my wife) was present which meant leaving work, driving an hour to make the exchange which made no sense. We needed our vehicle back so, the dealership suggested a new alternator (Twice the price) but, with a warranty that included labor. By the way, second labor installation at $375 a clip. I picked up the vehicle, paid the bill and headed straight to Advance in my hometown only to be told that the alternator is checking out good and they will not be a refund. I tried to explain that the alternator works fine for about 10 miles and then it breaks down, but the employee isn't going to hear it. I tried to show her my bill from the dealership and I offered a card with the service manager's number but she isn't interested. Finally, she asked another lady in the back about it and that lady said to give me the refund and if she didn't want to then she would do it for her. That's when things turned worse. I tried to explain that I wasn't blaming the Dunn location and if the Fayettville location had just swapped the unit then I would have only been stuck paying the labor but the sales lady was visibly pissed off and maintained a hateful attitude. She then refused to pay me for my core, stating that she didn't have my core. I stated that my wife had turned it into the first Advance in Wilmington and when I explained that I was also owed that back she swiftly headed to the back again, talked to the other lady and then returned. This time she refunded the alternator and the core and slammed the pen down, telling me to sign for the refund. Several customers were in the store and witnessed the embarrassing event. Being a public servant, I know how to treat not only customers, but people in general and regardless of what a machine tells you, the customer is always right or you will soon not have any customers. I gave you two stars instead of one because of the lady in the back. Over the years, I have been a loyal customer at several of your branches to include your Morrisville location and I know about good service. I have never known an employee of Advance to act in such a condescending manner, so I believe that this was an isolated incident, not in line with a company policy.
