I went to Autosound Lab because of its long-standing reputation in Fresno. Unfortunately I had a bad experience on several levels and would recommend taking your business elsewhere. Autosound Lab is under new ownership, and in my opinion it is not the Autosound Lab we used to know. **THE SALE** The owner was patient and helpful during the sale. My one nag: it felt like he was more focused on selling what he had in stock than on what my needs actually were. Business-friendly, not customer-friendly, in my opinion. **POST SALE** When I came back because the install wasn't done the way I understood we'd agreed (more on that below), the owner's demeanor changed completely, at least in my experience. He came across as short and confrontational rather than the helpful person from the sale. Before I could finish explaining what was wrong, it felt like he was already painting me as the problem -- too picky, that kind of thing. He even mentioned during that visit that he'd accidentally undercharged me and should have charged more, which struck me as a strange thing to say to a customer who came back with a complaint. My honest impression was that once he had my money, he wanted nothing more to do with me. **PROBLEM 1 -- THE INSTALL** I spent thousands of dollars, a premium price, and I expected a premium install. I chose Autosound Lab specifically for its reputation. Part of the job was custom work on the box to fit a custom setup in my vehicle. In my opinion they did a poor job the first time, and it left the whole setup compromised for my needs. I drove off hoping it would be fine, but after the shock wore off I brought it back -- and that's when, in my experience, the owner turned confrontational. Credit where it's due: they did fix it, and the second time they did a great job. Dealing with the owner through that process was the unpleasant part. **PROBLEM 2 -- THE RATTLE** When I got the vehicle back, I noticed a bass induced rattle from one of the doors with a new speaker. I was told that's just what happens when you add speakers to doors. For thousands of dollars, I would have hoped a premium shop would at least try to mitigate it -- to me that's part of a premium job. **PROBLEM 3 -- WHAT I FOUND** This past weekend I had time to pull the door panel to add some sound padding myself. When I got it open, I found a hole in one of the 6x9s, and when I went to pull the speaker to send it back to Kicker, I noticed the mounting bracket was cracked too. To be clear: I am NOT accusing Autosound Lab of damaging the speaker or the bracket -- I'm only describing what I found when I took it apart. I have no proof of how any of it happened, or even whether it's what's causing the rattle. I'm not a speaker expert and I'm still sorting that out. All I can say for certain is that the door rattled(when playing music) when I picked up the truck, and when I opened it up there was a hole in the speaker and a cracked bracket. Based on how my last visit went, I didn't want to go back, so I reached out to Kicker directly instead. To their credit, they're replacing the speaker under warranty. I'll install the new one myself and find out whether the bass rattle goes away. Credit to Kicker for standing behind their product. **CONCLUSION** In my opinion, Autosound Lab is not the Autosound Lab of years past. It's under new ownership, and the new owner has stated publicly -- in his own Yelp replies -- that he does not honor warranties or repair commitments made under the previous ownership. To me, this feels like Autosound Lab in name only. Worth noting: in the end it was Kicker, the manufacturer, that took care of me, not the shop that did the install. Different type of warranty, I realize, but it left an impression about who actually stands behind their customers. And based on how he's responded to other reviews, I expect the reply to this one will be more about defending himself than taking any of it on board. More than anything, though, I hope the owner's attitude toward customers changes. Reputation is what carried this shop for decades, and in my opinion, if people keep getting treated the way I was, I don't expect it to stay in business very long. I'd love to be proven wrong. Shout-out to the two installers -- both seemed like good guys. EDIT: According to crutchfield the brackets that come with the speakers are not compatible with my truck. I received the replacement brackets and I am able to theorize why the bracket installed in my truck was broken. So probably both speakers are problematic. I will order replacement parts and fix it myself. I am confident that if I was to take it in and request a fix I would have to deal with a bad attitude. IMO, the owner would do himself a favor to hire someone to work with the customers and he can stick to operating his business. read more

As far as what the Owner Lee Ann E. wrote, in response to my review. She is highly mistaken. Before I brought my car into the Autosound Lab, my mechanic had the car to do several jobs such as a brake job, rear-end work, and remove the old stereo! He did not thy to install the new Stereo, because the wiring harness was different, he suggested that I take it to a stereo installer. He simply did not want to install the new stereo. There was no spaghetti mess of wires, simply a wiring harness disconect, antanna hook-up, and a couple other miss-wires. Yes, the small heater itself was droped to provide additional room for the install, and yes, it was lying on the floor, after being removed ( four nuts-screws only) . The new radio's harness wires had not been cut off short, as she said, they were not touched at all ("they were just as the stereo came out of the box, brand new".) Yes, she is right, in as much as it could not be pluged into the existing harness, "THAT IS WHY I TOOK IT TO THEM FOR THE INSTALL". Don't be fooled. All the pamplets and installation booklets and enclosed paper work were given to them upon arrival. The so callad random ziplock bag of screws were the same screws and nuts that were used when the heater was disconnected. The Stereo radio original provided mounting sleeve, which I gave to them with the new, in the box stereo, for install, is the one that was installed at the time I got the car back. I did tell them upon inspecting the install that it looked good. However, I had not yet been presented with the bill. Please acknowledge the FACTS. This review is correct now, and I was way over charged, $250, you be the judge. No reflection on the worker himself! This would have been a 5 star review but... Ok so I had them install two front speakers, tweeters, subwoofer, and Amp. Installation was flawless. Good quality work for a reasonable rate. If you need to install stereo equipment this is the place to go. So I got home after the installation and I noticed the sub wasn't punching as much as I expected and the sound was off. After thinking about it I decided to look over the settings of the Amp... And what do you know the amp wasn't even set up. I tuned the amp settings and man did that make a huge difference. The bass started hitting like I expected, everything started sounding better My only gripe is for the money I paid I shouldn't have had to adjust the settings of the amp. they do shady installation work that they know won't last long. Autosound Lab installed woofers that rubbed the back seats of my truck and eventually destroyed the woofer. The technician said that the only way they could have avoided it was to move the seats forward. I asked why wasn't I told this in the beginning as I surely would not pay for something that would not last. The owner stated that she didn't know so it's nothing she could do. she also said that most of the time it only scuffs up the speakers and they have no way of knowing how bad the damage would be as she is not God. Great Customer Service I was recently sold a vehicle that required having my personalized license plate being put on. Because of the backup camera and the security license frame both installed by Autosound Lab when the car was owned by the previous owner, only they could put it on. I called and talked to Lee Ann, the extremely nice owner, who told me to bring it in and that they would take care of it. I had an initial appointment and had to cancel. I then made another appointment and Lee Ann was so nice about it. I finally brought in the car. After a warm greeting by Lee Ann to my wife and myself, the personalized license plate was put on within a few minutes. When I asked Lee Ann how much I owed her, she said nothing!! Came in here to look at adding some subwoofers to my less-than-stellar car stereo. The good: The gentleman running the store was attentive and friendly and gave us personalized help. He was helping another customer when we came in and he was very intentional about letting us know he would be with us soon, rather than just ignoring us. He was very knowledgeable about car audio. The meh: Had a decent selection of inventory, none of it seemed to be priced too competitively. Admittedly, I only price checked a couple of items though. The employee talked very fast and tried to upsell us with a bunch of other add-ons. Didn't really let us get a word in edgewise. The bad: He quoted me around $300 just to install the subwoofer, which is close to 3 times as much as the next most expensive place I found. He brought me out to his car to show how his subs sounded; though they moved a lot of air, they were obnoxiously loud and all the loose panels on his car rattled so that it sounded terrible. Really...if you're going to show your potential customer a demonstration of an actual install you did, at least show them that you can do the whole package and not make their car sound like garbage. Part of car audio is knowing how to get rid of those loud rattles, and even if you charge extra for it, a real professional business should be able to do it. I had a problem with my old car alarm so i called Autosound Lab. Right from the start, they were very nice on the phone and told me how to temporarily fix my problem. I spoke to them about several different options and decided to purchase a new alarm system for my car. I called back several times because I wasn't sure about my schedule/money situation, but was able to schedule an appointment for the same day. They even gave me a ride back to my place because the service would take about 3-4 hours. When I arrived to pick up my car, they showed me all the features of the alarm and everything looked/worked great. So far, no complaints at all! They told me if there were any adjustments or anything I needed done to just bring it back in. Definitely recommend this place! Great work and great customer service! read more

If you like your car or like listening to your music whether it sounds horrible or not do not go here. I could at least listen to my music before I went here. I went and had stock speakers replaced with after market upgrades from them and when I left there was a short that wouldn't allow my speakers to play at all. They told me I had a year warranty with them so when I went back and had them check it out they had my car for an entire day and when I got it back they said it had nothing to do with the work they did only to do with the fact that I had a stock deck and I needed to upgrade it in order for my speakers to work. After that I didn't trust them so I went to Pacific Stereo to have it upgraded and fixed and they found the problem immediately. Auto sound lab shorted out the connective wire in my left rear door speaker and it was an easy fix but didn't want to admit to a minor issue and fix their wrong. Because of this I had to go without music for four months before I could get the funds to get it fixed. You guys suck! read more

Very disappointed with the work Autosound Lab did on my van. I'm especially disappointed now that I've had to disassemble much of their work and redo it. I honestly cant believe they gave my van back to me in the state it was. I was told the van was ready to pick up only to arrive and find the interior still partially disassembled and the microphone wire hanging down my windshield. I was given an orientation of the new audio system and then left to drive home. The audio immediately shut off, so I drove back to have it fixed. I did this 5 different times before the audio was finally working properly. 5 times I had to come back to their store on the same day i picked it up. There was still a lingering problem with feedback in my audio but I let it go. They also tried to charge me for a new backup camera that I didn't need. They lost one of the four seat mount bolts and didnt even bother to tell me. Four big M12 bolts and somehow didnt notice one was missing. I also observed the installer barely hand tighten critical seat mount bolts that should have been properly torqued. Fast forward a couple months and I have basically been forced to completely redo their work. There wasn't a single soldered connection anywhere. Crimp connectors were used. They left a lot of scratches all over the dash of my van because they were careless in removing the seats. They drilled holes in my brand new vans seat base for grounding! Exposed holes in a brand new, $60,000 van! The amplifiers were mounted in a very bad location and left wobbly. I have now had to completely relocate them. One of the amps is completely scratched from being shoved into a small space. I took my van to another local audio shop and paid them to tell me everything thats wrong and I'm now redoing all of the wiring. I would avoid this place at all cost. They do horrible work and really messed up my brand new van. read more

My car was broken into not too long. The thieves stole my subwoofer and on further inspection, found a disconnected wire. There was no sound coming from the remaining speakers. I do not have much knowledge in this field, so I came to Autosound Lab for help and to purchase a new subwoofer. When I came in, there were 2 people ahead of me. So I spent a few minutes browsing, when Brandon came to showroom to ask me if I needed some help. I explained to him my situation, and he said let's go take a look. Brandon was patient, friendly and knowledgeable. He explained that indeed, the disconnected wire was the ground and shared with me where it is connected too. That should solve the issue of no sound. He told me if sound doesn't come still, for me to check the fuse. With the tips Brandon provided, I felt I could give it a go and do it myself since the next available appointment to install sub was July 17th. I asked him what is his recommendation for a sub and he gladly talked to me about the best options for my current set up. He suggested Memphis sub. I felt good about it and purchased it. The very nice woman who rang me up (I believe the owner) was very sweet and courteous. The next day I followed the tips that Brandon provided and sure enough, setting the ground properly provided sound to the speakers. Unfortunately the sub I purchased was not working. Checked the wiring and the fuses, as Brandon suggested, but still nothing. I came back to Autosound Lab to see if they can help with the sub. There was no one available at the time (4pm today) but the nice lady made an appointment for me tomorrow (Jun 17th). I will provide an update soon! read more
