I paid $160 and picked up the car soon after and started driving it back down to Brooklyn. I quickly learned that M&M had spent no time working on my car. There was a range of issues. There was a scraping sound of the inside of the bumper falling off whenever I drove. The car was in desperate need of an oil change. The brakes were so worn down that they were unsafe for driving and the car rattled whenever I drove. On top of all these issues, the car had tires at 10 PSI (they are normally supposed to be at 33 PSI). Finally I learned that the car's horn didn't even work when I needed it most on my drive back down to the city. I called multiple times frustrated about what I even paid for. I felt lied to when Mark told me that my car was good to go when it clearly was unsafe to drive and wouldn't pass state inspection in its state. I felt gaslit by the woman on the phone who told me that there was no issue and that Mark would call me to tell me he looked over everything. He never called. I am really frustrated because I was ripped off and had to take the car to get significant work at different shops throughout Brooklyn because Mark overlooked so many glaring errors. Bottom line: whether you have a beater or a Benz, do not take your car here. Unless you want to burn your money.

So it was quite disconcerting when my first encounter in NY was with Westchester Toyota Service (feel free to find and read my dismal review). Hence I ran my alternator to its death and was towed to Antoine's shop, MG Martins Auto. Antoine is the owner and head mechanic. Since then I have returned for other repairs. MG Martins Auto's, or Antoine's, service can best be summed up by his three personal qualities: consistent, honest, and efficient. Whether it is your first time or fifteenth time calling the shop, he will consistently never waste your time, speak in his trademark no-nonsense tone, and get to the root of your car's problem within a few short exchanges. I find that urban New Yorkers love to throw around the despicable phrase "hooked up," idiotically signifying that one would need to get friendly with an employee or owner first in order for him to "hook you up" with good service. In that sense, Antoine is, thankfully, very much un-"urban New York." You love to see a mechanic who isn't shy about wasting ink and paper. When I have asked for an estimate, which is every time, he would print out a detailed invoice within seconds. There is no handwritten scribbles. This is no bullshit about the labor and parts breakdown. There is no mystery and there is no deception. And finally, what most shops would find to be a shortcoming--small square footage and limited lot space--has become Antoine's greatest strength. He doesn't have the space to hold your car hostage for hours or days. When your car is done, he calls you right away (and leaves you a detailed voicemail AND text if you don't pick up) so that you can come drive it away and free up space for his next job. As described by him, this forces him to be efficient and not leave any jobs incomplete for the next day. It is refreshing when a mechanic doesn't have the luxury to be slow. It also doesn't hurt that he has promised to come in before the shop opens to work on my car and actually came in early, and is younger and not yet a grumpy old mechanic with a rough side or a few teeth missing.

I walked up and with all the amount of workers there, it took awhile for someone to notice and call me over to a register. His name was Alfredo. I went to pay. Inserted my card, and as everyone knows the card reader days wait for cashier. So I waited, but Alfredo went back to hang out with the other coworkers. All laughing and making jokes. He clearly completely forgot I was there trying to buy something. 5 minutes passed. He finally returns, he is surprised I'm still there. He has brownies and cookies in his hands. I feel completely disrespected and disgusted with his treatment of me and any other customer that goes to this business. I decided not to get the product as a result of Alfredo walking away mid-transaction. I will not be returning here again. I warn others of the amount of disrespect I was shown and urge them not to shop here. If I could give them 0 stars I would. Such a disappointing experience.
