I had my transmission fluid replaced recently. They gave me an estimate and an estimated time of how long it would take. It only took an hour and a half and they stayed with-in the estimate. Went in for a minor AC repair. Car was running fine otherwise (honda civic that's always been maintained mechanically). Right after I paid I get in my car and I notice the check engine light is on (was not on prior at drop off). I ask hey...what's going on my light is on. The front desk lady asks a mechanic walking by and he just says it was on and he keeps walking complacently. I insist nooo...it was not....Who would take their car to an auto shop w check engine light on and not have the check engine light addressed and just ask for the ac to be fixed? ( That's just illogical and an unbased cover up ) what repair shop would return a vehicle without addressing or asking"oh the check engine lights on did you want us to address that!?" Front lady then pulls the codes saying faulty O2 sensor, I ask if some connection could've been made loose during the repair (as ac condenser is pretty close to the sensor in my model). She vehemently says no and that I'm incorrect about the light coming on when the vehicle was there. Essentially calling me a liar numerous times. I ask if they can do a diagnostic to see if it's something they did and she says they will charge me and reiterating the light didn't come on under their care (which it did). I don't see how they are "committed to quality, bound by integrity" by telling me I'm wrong about the light and not trying to look into anything. I think the correct action would be for a mechanic to pop the hood and look to see if anything glaringly was out of place after the repair. Also I am extremely positive the light was not on at drop off...I would bet a hefty amount on that ...as I'm meticulous w any check engines on vehicle... I run the codes on my car anytime there's an issue immediately and have numerous family members that own auto shops out of the area so I follow up with them for free advice on how to proceed. Could it have been a coincidence the light came on that afternoon in the shop?...yes...but no way to know without looking into and checking work. Human error is real...they should've had mechanic make sure nothing random happened to cause the light to go on rather than brushing me off and calling me a liar. I asked her if this was a joke...never have had a place respond in this manner. I'm just really dumbfounded by the whole experience. Moving forward...I would not go to a new shop... will just wait to get into a more trustworthy one. read more

BEWARE......Misdiagnosed!!!!! I will try and make this as short as possible. We moved here 4 yrs ago and have been to AP on several occasions and have refereed others to them and always had a good experience along with their AAA status they should be a good shop. RIGHT? But a few weeks ago we took our car in as we had been hearing a noise in the front end when turning or backing up into our driveway that has a slight incline. We were thinking maybe something like struts or something to do with the axle. We explained what we were experiencing and dropped the car off the night before hoping it could be fixed quickly as my husband needs the car for his business. Here is what the invoice read: Right front axle has excessive play. Bushing/bearing inside Transmission is worn. Will need to tear down transmission to determine exact cause of failure. Jessie said it could take hours and she said she talked to their transmission specialist and they recommended that we just replace the whole transmission....WHAT!!!! I told Jessie that I had a transmission specialist in Utah that I had been taking my car to for 20 yrs.and would talk to them. I called them and they said it could be anything and asked if there was any leaks and I said NO. So we went and picked up the car because we keep our cars in excellent running condition and keep up on all maintenance. After calling around other transmission shops here in Santa Maria and SLO and finding out the cost of just a simple transmission diagnostic I decided to take my chances and drive the car to Utah. I dropped our 2010 Corolla off last week to State Transmissions in Orem, Utah and stayed with my kids. The next day I called and they said the car was ready. The CV axles were loose and they tighten them up did a trans service and fixed the broken oil stick housing case for just under $300...Bryce and Jeremy are one of the most honest mechanics you could ever find. If AP couldn't figure out something so simple as our axles being loose I can't trust this shop ever again. Maybe they just thought we were stupid and know nothing about cars or maybe they just wanted to make money on us. If I could post a photo of the invoice I would. This shop is a joke. read more

I hate writing this review but buyer be aware, We have had work done at Auto Professionals before and everything went smooth. However, today was a different story and I was stunned at how the owner Greg lied about contacting my husband and the order of events that played out. We were quoted a price of $909 for a diagnosis and repair job this morning. We had approved that amount over the phone with Greg. Unfortunately when Greg called to state the job was complete, he said he had made a mistake and had misquoted us for 1 motor mount even though he had diagnosed the car needing 2 motor mounts. He completed the job without calling us to confirm the new price and acceptance. He assumed we would be fine with his discrepancy and pricing that he had stated just 3 hours prior. My thought was to talk to Greg as he has always been pleasant in the past but he seemed rattled today and irritated that I questioned the price difference. Honestly, I understand when mistakes are made but not to own any of the discrepancy on pricing and just pass it on to the customer seems callous and frankly has left a very bad sense of Greg and his abilities to run a small shop like this. I would have appreciated splitting the difference or even paying his price on the part. All of those options I asked for but Greg was firm and denied all responsibility just stating that he did the work and will not discount to his price or split. He did end up taking a mere $30 off the bill which I was not satisfied with but he did not seem to care. This type of unprofessional and dishonest attitude is what hurts businesses like these. I took my vehicle to Auto Professionals on April 26th and was told after the diagnostic that the repair would be done in a day. The next day they call and say that the mechanic broke a part that fell into the engine amd they would have to have a specialist look at it. The lady sounded sincerely sorry and I did not make a big deal because the business could easily fix their mistake. Little did I know. The specialist couldn't see it for a week amd when he did, he said he can't do it. They called and said they scheduled with another specialist but is another week out. I call for an update a couple days after the specialist should've been working on it and only to find out the guy is on vacation. Monday the business is closed amd Tuesday morning I call to get an update and leave a voice-mail letting them know I really need my vehicle or a rental truck paid by them asap. I was very polite. No call back so I called again in the afternoon amd let the shop know the same thing. I get a call 2 hours later saying my vehicle is finished and ready for pickup. Very weird how that worked out. I go to pick up my vehicle which 22 days have now passed to be told my $800 dollar job is over $1,600 dollars for their mistake. Do not go to this place. They should have notified me their would be a charge. They did not take care of their customer, I will not go back and I highly suggest the same for all of you. And to top it off my vehicle was a mess. Windows must have been left down. read more

Jesse works up front and is not only kind and professional, but she is also very knowledgeable about cars. Greg, the owner, is really nice and does excellent work on my car. All the other mechanics and staff have been very pleasant as well. They are AAA approved which gives me peace of mind and a nice discount on my auto bill. Where to begin?! Amazing, kind, honest, and helpful just starts it. On a trip up to SLO from LA, our Nissan stopped accelerating and started smoking. We were able to get AAA to tow us to Auto Professionals and we're so grateful for that. They were able to tell us the transmission needed to be replaced and that it would be better to go through Nissan and see if we were covered through warranty... which we were! So while we weren't serviced by AP, they were kind enough to hold onto our car with all our stuff for a few hours while we found a rental and dealership to fix the car. It's hard to find a good repair service shop, even harder to find people who are kind enough like everyone at AP is. Would recommend to anyone in the area. read more

Outstanding customer service from Jesse & Greg! Driving through Arroyo Grande heading home to the OC from NorCal ('03 Toyota Avalon) our "BATTERY" light suddenly came on. Called Auto Club while on the 101 & they suggested Auto Professionals. Bad alternator was diagnosed & Jesse worked tirelessly to locate a new one for me. When she did, she kept looking bc she didn't like the price. Due to her diligence & honesty, she found what she wanted for us & better yet it was a "Denso", which I always prefer. I paid about $120.00 less than I would have if Greg had installed the first alternator they found. Who does the right thing like that now-a-days? While waiting for our repair at least 3 customers came into the office to pick up their vehicles. In each case they were told that the initial visual diagnosis turned out not as serious as it could have been & less costly that anticipated. In fact, 1 of the customers, obviously a regular for many years, told my wife & I that we couldn't have broken down at "a more honest repair shop in the entire central coast." Best of all, we were treated like you'd want your family members to be treated. These folks not only got us back on the road toward LA in under 2 hrs. but they did so without any attempt whatsoever at over-selling or overcharging us for services that we didn't need or that could be done in the future by our own local mechanic. It was a pleasure doing business with you folks & it's comforting to know that Auto Club of Southern California is endorsing top of the line mechanics & shops like yours. My 55yr. membership has always been worth it but it's never paid off more than it did today. So i needed to go get my brakes checked and went to first, Meineke in SLO. They had told me I needed to replace my shoe and drum and quoted me at $350! With that, I decided to get a second opinion and went to another place in Santa Maria which told me there was NO NEED to change my brakes. I know nothing about cars and began to feel a little weary. I thought the best decision was to go and get the third and last opinion and that is where Auto Pro's comes in. I show up and the fact alone that Mike (the manager/owner) was there, made it a great experience. He was super respectful and knew what good customer service was. I had mentioned to him that he was the "tie-braker" for my ultimate decision in buying new brakes or not. That is why you see a 5 star rating- Mike was considerate enough to actually SHOW me the car while the tire was off and went into explanation (in layman's terms, of course), to demonstrate why the others told me what they did. I was expecting to leaving a glowing 5-star review, but I had the most baffling experience at this shop today, and I'm still trying to make sense of it. They'd replaced the master cylinder in my truck last year, and I was very happy with their service, so they were my first choice when I began to have what I thought was a battery issue. I called and got an estimate on replacing the negative cable, which was badly corroded. I made the soonest appointment I could get, which was 2 days away. Unfortunately, my truck didn't make it until then-- it turned out to be the starter, and the next day, I ended up having to be towed home. AAA said they could tow me to a shop and they SUGGESTED Auto Professionals. I mentioned that I had an appointment scheduled, but that they were booked until day after tomorrow. The driver said that if they towed me there, I would get a discount and priority service. The next morning (the day before my appointment) I called bright and early to get an estimate on a starter, and I explained what had happened. I said if they could get me in sooner (because it was AAA), great, but if not, no problem. Jessie was very nice and gave me an estimate that seemed reasonable. Perfect. She located a starter at a good price, but it had to be delivered from Ventura. She said she would be sure to order it before 11, so they would get it that afternoon-- otherwise it wouldn't come until the NEXT afternoon. She said that if they were waiting for parts on the vehicles ahead of mine, they might get to my truck that afternoon, otherwise, they could do it first thing the next morning. Great! AAA towed my truck to the shop, and was it there before 10am. Jessie called around noon, and said that she hadn't ordered the starter until after eleven, so now my truck wouldn't be ready until at least the NEXT afternoon, or possibly the morning after that. Calling the order in an hour late meant that I would have to go AN EXTRA DAY without my truck! Kind of a big deal. I said that I was disappointed, since she had specifically told me that she would call them before 11. I wasn't angry, I wasn't rude, I wasn't nasty, I simply said that I was disappointed. A few minutes later, she called me back, and said she'd found another starter, and they could get it today, but it was $20 more. I agreed to pay the extra $20, in the hope that I might get my truck a day sooner. The conversation was very cordial. Here is where it begins to get weird: Less than two hours later, one of the guys called and said my truck was ready! Really? Already? I was thrilled! I said they were awesome! He would send someone to pick me up. Yay, right? Driver picks me up. I make cheerful small talk. Silence. I keep trying. Nothing. I give up and turn my attention to my phone, thinking maybe he just doesn't like to chat. Okay... He finally talks a little by the time he drops me at the office. No one is in the office, so I sit down. A few minutes later, the rest room door opens, and Jessie comes out. I cheerfully say, "Hi," thinking she's going to come and check me out, but without making eye contact or responding, she turns on her heel, disappears into an office, and closes the door. Okay... Hmmm. A few minutes later, another guy comes out, and he's going to check me out. He makes a point of asking me TWICE how my day is, in a tone that I later realized was sarcastic. This goes over my head, as I'm busy gushing about their outstanding service, and I tell him I'll leave a Yelp review. As I'm driving away in my truck, it finally occurs to me that they're MAD! What the hell?! I replayed what I'd said over and over, and concluded that Jessie must have totally overreacted or exaggerated my mild annoyance over the fact that she had made the phone call late. What a stupid situation. I'm still shaking my head in disbelief. It ruined the rest of my day, which is why I decided to write this. If anyone should be MAD, it's me. The starter cost me an extra $20 because of the late phone call. I got my truck fixed for a reasonable price, and it was done sooner than expected, but I still feel sad. What should have been a great experience (and a great review) was ruined because (apparently) a minor criticism was blown way out of proportion. I'm still in disbelief. I was happy with their service, and I'd still recommend them, but I don't think I'd be comfortable going back. read more

Used their services last month on our Ford Escape. Awesome place! We had recently noticed the always dreadful and sometimes fear inducing "Check Engine" light. A million things run through your head when you see that, my automatic response as a worry wort is "Oh my God, the car is going to explode" haha We took our car to another place in A.G. that we are used to going to, even though we just recently moved to Santa Maria. We were told that the light meant we needed a new thermostat because the engine wasn't heating up all of the way. They called us the next day with an estimate and it nearly made my brain explode, I could not compute O_o . So I decided to call around in town and when I called Auto Professionals I talked to a very nice girl who ended up quoting me a price that was 50% less than the original. So I decided to make an appointment. Got there early and they were already booming with business. They were nice enough to give us a ride back to our house because it would be a few hours. It ended up taking double the time, which was the only negative. We didn't have anything to do that day except to watch a lot of Dateline Real-life Mysteries, so it all worked out. When it was ready they picked us back up from our house and drove us on over. When we got there we found out they were able to save us a bit more money because a certain part wasn't needed.
