Your free to go here, but good luck not being milked into a prolonged stay. COVID restrictions make family rescuing you very difficult. The human rights officer thankfully was my only saving grace and ironically was the only legally obligatory role at a mental institution (their words, not mine). The whole experience felt like it was crafted to feed into psychosis, at one point 2 "employees" walked together and one came toward the patient area after mentioning a drug's name (basically curated to make patients think they were in a controlled setting) -- the admission for her being 99% not ordinary compared to other patients. The other patients there for adults seemed rather nice despite varying levels of social disorders/disconnect. During my stay I literally felt that I was growing as a person despite the mentally taxing circumstances. The oddest thing was my mental circumstances being such that I could do things that under normal circumstances I physically would never be able to do. If you go in with psychosis, you will definitely go to the extreme of thinking that you are special and then be brought back to earth to behave like a normal person solely to be discharged. If you go in thinking that paranormal activity is a hoax, you will definitely leave believing that paranormal things have happened to you. Overall I actually wish I could go back to confirm things. Their staff (mental health technicians) are all very good in different ways, thus the good rating. Their drawback is the questionable methods used to keep people there for prolonged times (I was literally coerced into taking a new drug as a condition of discharge --the drug proceeded to make me unable to function normally and I had to emotionally breakdown into tears to make myself able to sit down and fill out discharge paperwork, the drug then proceeded to give me blurred vision when I failed to remember to go to the Pharmacy to get meds that would have fought the side effects... I was subsequently brought to another mental health establishment because I was too restless to sleep).

I read the reviews for Westborough Behavioral Healthcare (WBHH) before my 9-year-old son was admitted, but I made the mistake of taking them with a grain of salt. Please do not ignore the warnings. My son was admitted to the Special Needs Unit (SNU), a program that claims to be specialized for neurodevelopmental disorders. Our experience was a clinical nightmare: Clinical Dishonesty & Lying: The attending psychiatrist explicitly lied to me, claiming he had consulted with my son's outside prescriber and that she agreed with a high-risk medication change. When I contacted her myself, I discovered she had NEVER agreed and actually had major clinical objections. Furthermore, I was given conflicting information by nursing staff who initially denied meds were given, only for the doctor to later admit the error in writing. Illegal Medication Administration: After I explicitly withdrew consent for a high-risk psychotropic medication (Geodon) based on the outpatient provider's actual advice, the hospital administered it anyway. The attending physician confirmed this error in writing. My son subsequently developed slurred speech and neurological distress. Severed Communication & Denied Access: The facility consistently failed to facilitate contact with my son. I was repeatedly denied 'Goodnight calls' with my 9-year-old, which is a fundamental right. Furthermore, promised callbacks from the clinical team during crises never happened, and the unit phone lines were frequently diverted to full, non-functional voicemail boxes, leaving me with no way to check on my son's safety after a medical error. Medical Neglect: My son has a documented neurogenic bladder protocol from Boston Children's Hospital. Despite having the records, staff repeatedly failed to implement his toileting plan, citing 'communication breakdowns between shifts.' Lack of Services: While the facility's website advertises speech therapy, the unit staff admitted they do not actually have it. For a child with an IEP and communication struggles, this is a critical failure of care. Deprivation of Safety Tools: They withheld my son's prescribed sensory tools (weighted vest/chewy tools) as 'punishment' for behaviors, which is a violation of trauma-informed care and ASD clinical standards. Unsafe Discharge Tactics: When the facility reached its 'clinical ceiling' and admitted they could not maintain safety without a 1:1 sitter, they attempted to force a discharge home while he was still medically unstable rather than facilitating a lateral transfer to a higher level of care. If your child has ASD, PTSD, or any medical complexity, this is not a safe environment. I have filed formal complaints with the MA Department of Mental Health (DMH) and the Department of Public Health (DPH). Parents: Advocate for a transfer to a tertiary medical-psychiatric unit (like Boston Children's or Bradley/Hasbro) instead of accepting a placement here. Do not let them make your child's safety their liability experiment.

HBM has inpatient and outpatient programs, both of which are good, but please take negative reviews…read moreof HBM with a grain of salt as most are commenting on the inpatient program only and as people are often sent to inpatient when they don't want to go so it can feel like a loss of freedom, when really it's about taking all responsibilities away so you can focus on yourself. The building facilities are new and clean, the cafeteria could be better but isn't terrible. Everything else aside the staff is great and they really care, as rough as it is to be inpatient and as frustrating as it is to be there day after day I felt like the staff really cared and made an effort. Most times other patients were upset it was due to the necessary rules of the place. The staff are openly supportive of each other, waving to each other or giving each other a supportive hug when they come back to work after being away; that shows a real team who really cares. Whatever might be said about the inpatient experience, their outpatient program is where they really shine; excellent clinicians, a safe and supportive place for group, and an environment that seeks to help and prepare you to return to your life. They have patience beyond the limits of most and their women's trauma program is superb. Group includes process, skills practice, expressive therapy, yoga, support dog visits, as well as a coffee bar, breakfast and lunch provided as well as transportation to HBM and home for any patient who needs it. Having done inpatient and outpatient I felt safe, truly seen, and cared for in my weeks there.

The entire experience was a nightmare out of a third world human trafficking ring, rife with medical malpractice & abuse. If I had the time and money I would be running to take them to court. It is absolutely unbelievable that this level of abuse & dehumanization is legal & normalized in 2026. I signed a 3 day notice & was still held against my will for 30 days. None of the staff in the facility could speak English, none of them were educated, they took me off my meds cold turkey & I had 4 seizures as a result, and not a single person was competent as a behavioral health provider or gave me any kind of therapy whatsoever. I was simply being held against my will by people far less educated, qualified & intelligent than myself. It was mortifying and highly traumatic. They treated my false imprisonment as a source of income, nothing else. They actively taunted me & punished me as a means to satisfy their ego & exercise their misplaced authority. My "doctor" (a nurse practitioner, not a qualified MD) was legitimately a nurse ratched type out of a movie, who would ONLY call me into her office to threaten to take me to court & institutionalize me for 6 months, with her severe language barrier, all because I refused to take atypical antipsychotics. I refused them because I have taken them before & they are not a good match for me-- they cause diabetes & a slew of irreversible iatrogenic health problems. She repeatedly told me she would discharge me if I took them, and she would go to court to keep me longer if I continued to refuse. This is illegal and wildly unethical. The staff did not want to help anyone, their entire mindset is that it is them against the patients, and their whole incentive is to keep patients there against their will for as long as possible in order to collect an income. Nobody can heal or get better in this hostile environment where the person in charge of their care treats them like an enemy, an obstacle, an object and a paycheck. It is legitimately organized crime and human trafficking disguised as a medical facility. The level of medical malpractice that is rampant at this facility is shocking and appalling. As I said, if I had the resources I would be in court with them right now. The entire staff is suspiciously freshly immigrated from the same country in Africa, and I honestly genuinely in the depths of my soul believe that they are running this facility as some kind of front to launder money & cover up the fact that they are a criminal organization. One of the directors of the program is a man they all call "Papi" who I've never seen provide any form of behavioral health care-- I've only ever seen him strut into the room, wearing sunglasses & expensive jewelry, to self righteously remind everyone of his authority like some patronizing, haughty, third world gang leader. Half these people belong in an ICE detention facility, not in a position of authority. I say this as an immigrant myself, who can recognize organized crime when I see it. I don't say it out of any kind of xenophobic belief system, as I also immigrated to this country & I believe in the American dream as long as it is achieved ethically & legally. This facility needs to be shut down immediately, it is actively hurting patients. I was only released after getting an attorney who provided me with a psych evaluation that concluded I was sane, and the hospital still kept me for the maximum amount of days it could after receiving the results of the evaluation. The 3rd party evaluation provided by my attorney was the only time I was ever evaluated over my entire stay. I really don't understand why this place exists, seeing as it does not provide any psychological treatment whatsoever. The whole time I was there, I was just using the coping skills I already had to keep my head down, wait patiently for my release, and pray I make it out alive. Every day there were ghetto patients having a full blown crisis, trying to fight multiple people in the hallway. It was hostile, belligerent, combative & unsafe. There were no established rules, the staff just told us to do whatever they felt like at that moment, and they clearly had favorites who were treated differently. This extremely traumatic, humiliating, life altering experience was literally just money and ego for them. And potentially a legitimate crime ring, that stands to be decided pending a much needed investigation. Do not send your loved ones here if you care about them. All I can say is that it is shocking that this kind of abject incompetence and abuse can masquerade as health care in the United States of America. The truth is I have a very healthy bank account, well into the millions. I can and would pay them in cash, however, since their phone does not seem to work, I have to assume that Cedar Hill either does not actually exist, or else they are colossally stupid. I have the means to pay out of pocket, but would not work with an outfit that rules out people without insurance. Not all employers provide mental health insurance, but some customers have bank accounts that eliminate the need for it! Any organization that rules me out for not having insurance, and which refuses even to hear the compensatory details is not my kind of organization.
