That was, until motherhood hit! Call me a softie, a sell-out, a traitor to my roots, but I'm saying it loud and proud: I kind of really like Antoine et Lili. What did me in? The middle shop devoted to kids stuff. Right before my little tot was born I found an adorable patchwork stuffed elephant there that looks like a grandma sewed it together used retro pieces of fabric. I was bummed to find out that it wasn't one of a kind, however, but for 20E, I couldn't turn it down. I've since gone back on multiple occasions for other goodies, like a fabulous hand-crocheted rattle from Peru that is safe for babies to suck on, and these amazing unisex leather booties with Freddy Mercury pizazz. Each time I've gone in the staff has been super sweet and helpful and genuinely baby-friendly. So if you're looking for cute, affordable baby stuff, Antoine and Lili has got your candy-colored number..

(Shops in the US could never get away with this design philosophy as they'd be beaten down by protests of cultural appropriation and political correctness). Conversely, the actual number of clothing designs is actually rather finite - variety consists of producing each tried-and-true pattern in a multitude of the aforementioned prints. Ultimately, these qualities allow for brightly colored clothing to be enjoyed outside of Lilly Pulitzer's Junior League and West Palm Beach retiree enthusiasts. As a bonus, VAT refunds are processed. Place Vendôme, 1er

Okay. I'm going to give this place a great review, merely because of their existence. I came to…read moreParis on a family vacation and my mother went on and on about how she wanted to find French hair clips. And they must be made in France. She went on and on about how the hair clip she got 10 years ago was the best hair clips she ever used -- it was the only thing that clamped well on her hair. And it was one that was made in France. Once my mother wants something she won't stop talking about until it's done. And so I know I needed to get her some clips (for my own sanity.) I did research online and we went on a bit of a wild goose chase. Some people say that the pharmacy has them. Then, I realized it wasn't just any pharmacy. but the pharmacy at the Champs-Élysées. And so on our last day in Paris, we're trying to please my 75 year old mother, which is likely the last time she will ever be in Paris, and so we needed to find her a dang french hair clip or we wouldn't hear the end of it. And so, I found Alexandre de Paris online. I looked at the products online... 78 euros for one clip?! I showed my mom. She was hesitant at first, but in her desperation, she said she was open to it. We took a taxi that was clearly scamming us -- driving around and around. Little did he know, he probably didn't have to do that because we're Americans and would had tipped him anyways. Anyhow, we got to Alexandre de Paris, and it was amazing. An entire store of French hair clips. Exactly what my mother wanted. Customer service was quite excellent. (I certainly hope so at these prices!) The lady helped my mom put her hair in in the clip and let her see with a mirror. She tried on several and they were very patient with her. My mother ended up buying 3 hair clips. THREE hair clips! She spent more on hair clips then I've spent on clothes the last year, probably. (I don't shop that much anymore). Anyhow, it was what she wanted. I morbidly told her that when she passes I will bury her with the hair clips. She morbidly said back to me "they're so expensive, what if people try to steal them?" So yeah... if you're into French hair clips, then this is the place. And yes, they do the tax refund. They also gifted us a couple of pins, perhaps because of the large order. My mom gave me one of them. I'll likely never wear it, but at least it will remind me of this time!

I should have looked more closely and I would have seen a hash mark on the silk which would never have been circulated were it a genuine Hermès. Be careful out there.

I was actually standing by the big building this shop is housed in, I couldn't find the vendor amongst the maze of stalls/shops/booths. Anyways, it was worth getting lost and I'm grateful for the kind Frenchman who didn't speak a word of English, but was able to decipher my notes and the address to this wonderful shop. The owner has a tremendous collection of Louis Vuitton vintage trunks, briefcases, purses, bags, accessories, lots of Chanel, Hermes everything. Vintage purses by every premier French maker. Thinking he would have just a few Hermes scarves to see, I figured I would choose one easily. Little did I know that there weren't a few scarves for sale, there was a collection for sale. In other words, a sea of silk in brightly colored patterns from the early 1900's to last year. He had to have at least 250 scarves to chose from, and one was more magnificent than the next. Having been to the flagship Hermes store the day later, it was then I realized that this man, Alain ZIsul, just may have a bigger selection of Hermes scarves than the flagship store itself. After around 2 hours of going back and forth, wanting every scarf I saw, I picked one that looks nothing like the 2 I have. For 185 euros, I have a beautiful Hermes scarf. It's definitely not "new" per se, but it's absolutely gorgeous and it's new to me.
