He does not immediately start with the most aggressive form of treatment, but will get more aggressive if a course of treatment (therapy in my case) is not yielding results. I'm 54 and in good shape, but a few years ago I had back pain due to stenosis that radiated into my legs (sciatica). I tried to ignore it, but it bothered me so much that I had to take sit breaks when walking (eagerly eyeing and fighting 75 year olds for a spot on a bench) and couldn't stand in one spot more than five minutes. The pain impacted my life to such a degree that I avoided activities and just wanted to sit or lie down. Dr. Chacin fixed my issue with injections and I not only avoided surgery but I was able to resume all activities I couldn't do previously and felt human again! I've also watched him interact with other patients and he's so empathetic and calm! ! have so much faith in him that my wife was experiencing back pain recently and I referred her to him and he's helped her too! Thanks Dr. Chacin - you're the best!

To begin with, I arrived early for my visit so I could fill out their ridiculous amount of paperwork. On it were the obligatory questions about the pain I was in, but no one seemed concerned with what I put down, as they kept referring to other things that were not bothering me. Also, when I made the appointment, I specifically asked for Dr. Amin, but I never saw him. I filled out the paperwork and sat in the annoying waiting room where the television is entirely too loud and on a continuous loop of ads. Nothing else. I wished there was a remote out there so I could turn it off, but that would show true concern for the patients and you won't find that here. I finally was brought in to the madness of the back, and Michael, the nurse (I'm not sure if he's actually a nurse but I don't think he's a physician's assistant and I know he's not a doctor) could not have been nicer. If this review was about him, it would be five stars. He was the only one I met who actually listened to me. Next came the PA. This could either stand for Physician's Assistant or Pain in the Ass, you can decide for yourself. She was a nightmare. She apologized for the amount of time I had to wait, but she had to go outside because her car was hit. Which is saying to the patient that her car is more important. That gives you an idea of the caliber of the practice. Finally the doctor came in. He stood across the room and recited to me what his PA had written down, incorrectly, which completely threw him off because he had already decided on the the diagnosis and course of treatment (all with drugs) before he walked in the room. He never examined me, he stood with his back against the door and never entered any further into the room. I now know how lepers must feel. He prescribed several medications for me, which is why I started feeling like I was in a pill mill. Then he told me he would call in another prescription, and that pharmacy would call me to make arrangements. I was also to have an MRI. Finally, something that made sense. His office would arrange that and the MRI office would call me to schedule. I also had to give them a urine sample, but for the life of me, I don't know why. I gave it to them. I have yet to hear anything more about it. I was shown to the front desk where the receptionist immediately tried to book my next appointment. I informed her that I couldn't very well do that since I hadn't had the MRI yet, which completely threw her off. I patiently explained to her (maybe not so patiently) that I had to have an MRI and that her office was going to call the MRI place and let them know what the were scanning, and once that was done, then I would call and make the next appointment. I'm guessing she gets paid on how many appointments she makes because she was not happy. Several weeks later I received a letter in the mail from some company that claimed they had been trying to call me (even though I never got a phone call from them) to finalize the medication. I checked and it's a medication that is NOT covered by my insurance, and I can only guess that Dr. Macek gets a kickback from the drug company, because I cannot come up with another reason why he would prescribe this for me, particularly since he still had not examined me. Oh, and the MRI? Well, it's been over a month and I still have not heard from anyone about that. As I said, this made me think I was in a pill mill and nothing has happened since change my opinion. In reading the reviews on here, it seems that most patients are very happy with Dr. Amin. I cannot understand why I was not put on his schedule when I specifically asked for him, but I was not. Sadly, I'm not willing to give this place another chance.

This place is close to my office but the only review was misleading as it was made by the doctor herself as if from a patient. That hurts the credibility of the business in my opinion.

I. , at a young age. To assist with my pain management. As the doctor was injecting me her hand may have shake and hit my sensory nerve and damaged it. From 2010 I became dead numb and was in extremely more pain than what I was before going to her on the side she injected me. From flair ups in my head and brain, neck, back, arm, shoulder, fingers, chest, breast, couldn't walk on my own, healthy veins became poor, migraines, got a huge, huge plum shape cyst on my pelvic. I was in a vegetative state left in her recovery area couldn't eat nor drink anything and was assisted into a room and left to dress on my own though I couldn't. After few minutes one of her assistant half assisted me after I told her I could dress myself. I had two solders assisted me back to the air port to go home to my family. They were all shocked to see the state I came back in. Since that day I lost my life enjoyment with my family and the activities I used to do. To date 2019 I still suffer with the pain, numbness, tingling, swollen joints in head, breast, chest, short term memory loss, poor veins, extreme coldness, migraines, dark black in two of my figures under my nail. Upon my follow up with the doctor I kept on asking her if I should b numb all now. She became defensive and got an attitude and said " I'm sure you are not in much pain when you first came in." "I told her I am in more pain." She showed no empathy and asked me to leave so I do not cause a seen for the other awaiting patients. She has left St. Thomas to Florida. This injection could have kill me and to boot in the surgeons report she wrote everything went well. SHE IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED. DO NOT TAKE THIS INJECTION OR ANT TREATMENT FROM THIS DOCTOR. IF YOU KNOW SOME ONE THAT WAS TREATED BY HER AND GOT DAMAGED SHARE IT COULD SAVE SOMEONE LIFE. God knows what she has done to me and many others. One day, just one day may the God of Issac, Abraham, and Abednego return it all upon her in JESUS MIGHTY NAME. TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY.

Nov 2024, Cantor did surgery on my neck for Cervical Stenosis. He prescribed 900mg/day of…read moreGabapentin before and after surgery. When I awoke from surgery my left arm muscles had atrophied and my whole arm was numb. I could not move my left arm. My wife had to button my shirt for me. Over the next several weeks I was in the emergency room twice because my bladder stopped working..I had to wear a catheter while this was going on to allow my bladder to empty itself. Through my own research I discovered that urine retention was a side effect of Gabapentin..I stopped taking the Gabapentin..when the urologist removed the catheter, for the 2nd time, my bladder started working again. Cantor and his staff seemed unaware of this Gabapentin side effect. Also, my numbness wasn't any better or worse after I quit taking the Gabapentin. Using Gabapentin for this purpose is an off label use..it's normally used in this dosage to manage epilepsy. 5 months later after complaining that my numbness was not improving, Cantor eyeballed an MRI and dismissed my problems as Neuropraxia..he said it would be gone in 18 months. I had my doubts about his prognosis and reached out to a neurologist who referred me to a neurosurgeon who ordered a detailed EMG. 10 months after surgery the EMG report stated that there was no Neuropraxia..It stated the peripheral nerve damage caused by Cantor's surgery was Axonotmesis. The EMG doctor and the Neurosurgeon both said Axonotmesis heals at a rate of 1in per month...they said I was looking at 3-5 years for my peripheral nerves to heal. They also said the motor neurons stop healing after about 18 months. Cantor is obviously not a neurologist or he would have ordered an EMG instead of an MRI to get an accurate assessment of the peripheral nerve damage. I was misled, misinformed and misdiagnosed by Cantor and his staff. 16 months after surgery, my left arm is still noticeably smaller than my right arm, and my numbness is 100x worse than it was before the surgery. Buttoning my shirt is still a struggle. If you have surgery by Cantor and come out unscathed, you are just lucky, it certainly is not because he knows what he is doing.

I want to share my deeply disappointing experience with the Cantor Spine Center. If I could give 0…read morestars, then I would. After an unfavorable disc replacement surgery left me with severe neurological deficits--loss of leg movement, bowel function, and more--I reached out to them for a second opinion, as my ability to walk is on the line. Despite being willing to drive hours to be under their care, they wasted my time, energy, and hope. In mid-October, I followed all their outlined steps, including obtaining post-op MRIs. This process was incredibly stressful, as MRIs are triggering for me after my surgery. After each MRI, I had to get the images downloaded onto a CD, then spend an hour at CVS uploading them into MyMedicalImages to send to Cantor Spine. Despite this effort, they rejected the first set of MRIs for being "blurry," so I had to repeat the entire process, enduring yet another MRI and the painstaking steps to share the files. After submitting my second set of MRIs, they called to say they wouldn't review my case unless I lost weight. This felt like a slap in the face. Let me be clear: I don't mind losing weight--I understand that extra weight doesn't help any condition. But my weight is not the root cause of my spinal issues, and this is a neurological center, not a weight-loss center. My weight (5'8", 230 lbs) has never been flagged as an issue by other neurosurgeons and neurologists and has no bearing on the neurological deficits I'm experiencing. If BMI is a deciding factor, why wasn't that communicated upfront? Why put me through two rounds of MRIs, knowing how much effort and emotional strain it took, only to dismiss me in the end? Also, why isn't a disclaimer on BMIs or any other thing mentioned on the second review/second opinion webpage if it's that serious. I was left feeling very hurt and disheartened by this experience. They didn't even review my images or offer a virtual consultation to assess my condition. My ability to walk is at stake, and they shut me down in the most callous way. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone seeking compassionate or patient-centered care. The lack of transparency and respect was appalling, especially considering their initial claim of being "very interested" in my case.
