As with all post offices, there's a lot of weird gift things, which seem to be quite expensive for what they are, but I suppose someone must buy them, or they wouldn't have them. In this day of "do everything on the internet", it's good to know how useful Post Offices are (and probably good to know now, so you'll know where to go when your computer/internet breaks...)

The units are spotless and I am confident my belongings will be safe, secure, dry and protected from visits by marauding bugs and critters! I am happy to recommend Store Local Newmarket
Suburban post offices rock. You know why? No lines. Awesome (sometimes husband/wife duo) owners and…read morepeople who'll actually have a human conversation with you as you prepare packages for post. Mitchelton Post Office is hidden in the IGA complex and is a lot smaller and less modern than the Brookside Australia Post near by. There's no self-serve counters but you have human servers and I suppose they go okay. But like I mentioned, the kicker is I'm yet to stand in a line for more than 5 mins before sending my parcels off on their merry way. Winning!
Front of post office. There's ample parking out front.

I run a small business from home and so I have plenty of packages coming in and out of the house…read more Most packages are delivered to me by the Oxley Post Office and all packages I send out are through them as well. As I have been dealing with this post office on a regular basis, they now know what packages to look out for on my behalf. The staff are so attentive and friendly, it makes it very easy to deal with them. The post office itself is quite small, but they do have all the basic postage needs required such as the boxes, packets, sleeves, bubble wrap, envelopes, stamps etc. However, because it is quite small, there normally is only two staff behind the counter and during lunch time is can get quite busy. So be sure to expect this at that time or come earlier or later in the day. Conveniently located next to the Oxley train station and plenty of parking space in the area.

The service is swift, knowledgeable and on-point when it comes to seeking the best postage and shipping options for sending around Australia and overseas. The busy nature of this post office, and perhaps most, doesn't afford time for friendly chats or smiles and greetings when it's your turn to be served at the window. But that's okay...you'll get what you came for and that's all that really matters.

You can feel the arrogance emanating from the staff. $29.90 is the price for a police check for a volunteer position or $49.90 for a normal check BUT the gap staff refused to listen and tried to charge me $60. I called customer service for the post office and they confirmed that I was right. The gap post office takes pleasure in wasting your time and money. My advice to anyone is to take the next bus to the nearest post office that is NOT the gap's.

The guy that is always there is friendly and helpful, I had a parcel that had to go out that day and he told me the mail trucks pick up times and where to go If I missed the last one so it would still be sent that day, as well as the parcel I was also planning on posting a letter in the mailbox and he noticed I had the wrong stamp on and helped me. They sell weird trinket stuff that I don't think anyone buys, but they have all the bags and boxes and things you would expect. Overall, great little Australia post, nothing fancy, but then... Who needs a fancy post office...?

This makes getting to the post office difficult for anyone who works a normal 9-5 job. They are open at 8:30am and close at 5pm each day. Or are they? I'm sure that not a lot of people get the time to remember that Anzac Square is actually a war…read morememorial. Most people are too busy using it as a shortcut from Adelaide to Ann St and vice versa - including myself. Which does make me feel a little bit sad. It was named in honour of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (known as the ANZACs) and was a memorial built for the men and women who fought overseas. It was officially opened on Armistice Day, 1930. At the top of the Square, almost at Ann Street, is the Shrine of Remembrance, which houses the "Eternal Flame of Remembrance" which, in its bronze urn, never goes out. Each of the 18 columns around the shrine represents the 18 years of peace we had after World War I. And the bottle trees in the park are to commemorate Queensland Light Horse Regiments, which served in South Africa's Boer War (1899-1902), while palm trees are actually Middle Eastern Date Palms and they were planted to celebrate Australia's success in the Middle East during both World Wars. And, of course, each year on Anzac Day (25 April), there's a dawn service held at the Shrine of Remembrance and in the Square itself.

Both offering a shady, comfortable spot to relax, eat lunch, take in the greenery ( I say that cause apart from the botanical gardens there isn't enough of it about, and the scenery beyond the memorial's grassy borders is just cbd highrises and office blocks) and most importantly remember those who had past fighting for our country. One of my first memories of this place was on Anzac day 1997 when I, as primary school vice captain was asked to join in a remembrance ceremony in this square along with other representatives from schools all over Brisbane. I remember standing there on that central path hearing the trumpets sound and staring across the space admiring the statues and boab trees and eagerly waiting in anticipation to not only see the eternal flame and pay my respects but to shake John Howard's hand and recite the words 'lest we forget' - It was a beautiful moment for me and it cemented the significance of what this place represents in my heart and mind forever. Unfortunately at night this place on occasion, for some disrespectful people loses its significance and is tainted by acts of drunken or disrespectful behavior and vandalism - So I would suggest steering clear of it later in the evening and I hope that sooner rather than later that negative aspect of Anzac square passes.
