As a parent of three children at Austin International School -- in Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 2nd grade -- I can wholeheartedly say this school has exceeded every expectation. All three of my kids enrolled without any knowledge of a foreign language, which was initially a little nerve-wracking. My second grader was placed in a dedicated French as a Second Language support class, and it made a world of difference. Within a year, he had genuinely acquired the language in a way I didn't think was possible so quickly. My two younger ones jumped straight into the regular classroom, and they too have picked up an impressive amount of French in just one year. One of the most memorable surprises was hearing my kids come home and naturally speak French -- something I never expected to happen so soon. But perhaps the most touching milestone? They now ask me to speak French with them during part of our day at home and correct me when I make a mistake. The language has become something they take pride in and genuinely enjoy -- it's no longer just school, it's part of who they are. Academically, my kids are thriving too -- my second grader's MAP scores showed a remarkable jump from where he started before joining the school. What sets this school apart, though, goes beyond academics. The teachers clearly love what they do and love the kids they teach. Their enthusiasm and dedication are visible every single day -- they are engaged, motivated, and create an environment where children genuinely want to learn. I have sent several emails regarding the dates of DELF exams and have not received any responses from the school. Yesterday I called and had an unpleasant conversation with your receptionist who told me that she had no the dates of the exam and can not even tell me when students had DELF earlier this year. She was in a hurry to hang up the phone apparently, because the conversation with a client was something that irritated her a lot. Bizarre school. read more

Absolutely horrendous school, mainly on the elementary side. Teachers are mean spirited people who constantly yell and belittle children. Administration listens, but things never change. On top of the lack of social emotional learning, education is very weak. We went backwards instead of progressing. If you do not have an attachment to the language/culture. My family has been a part of the AIS community for over 10 years now. All of our children successfully completed the elementary school program and we could not be more pleased with how they have grown both academically and mentally. I credit their love for cultures, their ability to speak in multiple languages, their enthusiasm for new adventures, their open mindedness and much more, to their time at the school, since this is exactly what the school fosters. This school is a gem in Austin, TX. I sent my kids here for five years because I am a big believer in immersive language instruction (English, French, and Spanish), but found it to be a caring environment with high caliber students, teachers, administration, and parent community. My children (who now speak beautiful, fluent French and functional Spanish) have since transitioned seamlessly to Eanes ISD where they are thriving academically and socially. Sadly, what once was a high quality of community, instruction and general atmosphere at AIS has suffered greatly under the current leadership. We had our child there for several years before finally leaving after becoming so disillusioned with the way the new head of school and one principal are now running the school. The current HOS generally seems to fear parent input and avoids it at all costs. For example, state of the school and back to school meetings that used to feature discussions of vision and sometimes lengthy parent question/comment periods now have neither. One such session was merely the HOS walking through changes on the website! The HOS and principal have terribly mis-managed multiple rather public situations seeking only to cover themselves instead of acting to support the children in their "care." In those instances, both have blatantly lied to parents in parent meetings and one-on-one, even in writing! It's a small community, so the lies to parents are obvious and immediately widely known. The board is aware of these glaring problems, but does not seem to take much control. Many of the board members are nice people. However, no one on the board has a background in education or school administration. Many good teachers have left. While a few good teachers remain at AIS like Sophie, Monica, Gina and Cedric, many newly arrived teachers now flail and burn out teaching the very small classes here. Some selected by this HOS are out-and-out terrible, yelling at kids and sometimes even having other outbursts like dumping students' belongings on the floor for a minor real or perceived infraction. Our child learned French and some Spanish (sadly not as much a focus as it once was), but we simply could not responsibly keep our child in a place with this rotting leadership. We once would have recommended AIS, but now cannot. I can also tell you that one of the earlier commenters here also came to the same conclusion and left the school the parent once gave 5 stars. read more

The school is absolutely great and teachers and staff are very professional and friendly. Mathilde gave us a tour of the school and all the information we needed. She was friendly, kind, sweet and very professional. My son will be attending next year for Kindergarden and we are very excited to be able to be part of the AIS family. I love the diversity of students and the many cultures. I also love the fact that they have a very structured environment and follow the French curriculum. My son will be learning both French and Spanish while attending here and it's another reason why we love it. The facility is always clean and very well taken care of and there's access to a wonderful library with books in all three languages, modern computer labs, Gym, playgrounds, etc. I also really like the fact that children are to follow a dress code and wear uniforms. We've had and continue to have great experience with the school after being part of the AIS community for 3 years now, going on 4. We are truly blessed to be able to send our son to Austin International School right here in Austin! The teaching staff is incredible and very dedicated to their students, the kids are thriving, and since the school began using the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) testing last year, we now have the confirmation that AIS students always score above average in reading and math, all while learning 3 languages (French, English and Spanish). We won't find other seamless curriculum like this one anywhere else in Central Texas, and we are already looking forward to the next year at Austin International School. We also enjoy the close-knit community of teachers, staff and parents. What a great school! read more

Our daughter started at the school in January and we have been so impressed! The teachers really care and are so professional, educated, and organized. The staff is great and so welcoming. Our daughter is learning French and Spanish and loves going to school. Just a wonderful, nurturing learning environment even coming from a family with no real French connection or background. Our daughter is in her second year at AIS and we love the school, the teachers & the parent community. We are amazed at how well our daughter is learning and understanding French and Spanish especially since we only speak English at home. The after school activities are also excellent which allow our child to receive some wonderful and varied experiences without running all over town. This school has gotten worse with time. The new director has not helped the situation of the school. The reason I have stayed so long is because of the amazing, dedicated team of teachers. However, since the arrival of Mr. Weber, when I see the teachers at the school, they look overworked and sad. As a parent, I pay for a multilingual, quality education for my children. I have lately become aware that there is a lack of teachers and that our children have very hectic schedules. Perhaps it is a problem with lack of budget, however there are currently three directors for a school with under 200 students and an admissions counselor. Teachers are constantly leaving and the reason given to the parents is because it is an international school so it s common to have teachers come and go. This is far from the truth as I have recently found out. The teachers are amazing professionals that are taken for granted and poorly treated. It is very sad to see such great teachers burn out before November. It is not fair to our children or to the parents, that are being sold something far from the truth. What is being offered is a quality education and since the arrival of Mr. Weber the school is no longer teaching "Seamless" and parents are being lied to and cheated. We will no longer be a part of this school next year and I intend to let other parents know what my wife and I have been recently made aware of. I m sorry for the teachers, they are great professionals and deserve respect and to be treated right. read more
