It's…read morehard to tell we are attending a 'party' on a college campus, as there's no silly pranks or screeching co-eds! The Midway Plaisance is actually NOT quite completely owned by the University, which is probably why this is able to be here. On Midway P, you are literally in the the middle of the street, with long, gorgeous soccer fields around you. There are 2 stages, going east and west, with great acoustics (ok I'm not an expert). There are food trucks and beverages, but you can bring your own; same with chairs too. It starts early afternoon and goes until 9 or 10 at night, but it is NOT wall to wall music, as there are other venues (indoor) that need attention too. The artists may be up and comers or veterans, maybe not whom you would see in Jazz Review. Note: The big bands are on the outside stages, whereas the the 'small' groups (trios, quartets, soloists) are in the small indoor areas (churches, art centers at the U of C, even Hyde Park Bank!). There are shuttle buses that can take you to vendors, and a down and upsides are that one can't stay in the same venue for too long. On a nice day when strolling is fun, with NO limited mobility, that's a good activity. The downside to late Sept/early fall is cool weather, rain and HORNETS!

The ambiance is perfect if you are celebrating your anniversary or birthday. Now let's talk about the music, LIVE MUSIC!!! When I was there it sounded like jazz, besides the house of blues, where in Chicago can you go and hear live music? (I'll wait) The service was exceptional, very kind and personable staff, very attentive and easy to talk to. The food was utterly delicious, I've never had a steak so good in my entire life, & I've had steak at RPM & STK Overall an amazing experience, I will definitely be coming back and telling everyone about it. Thank you so much for an amazing experience.

We were seated promptly and greeted by our lovely host, who truly brought the "chemistry" to our table and woke up our entire vibe! Everything from the drink presentation to the final dessert was phenomenal. We tried the Patron flight, which I highly recommend. I ordered the stuffed salmon, perfectly seasoned, with rice and spinach that was incredibly flavorful. My sister had the lamb chops with garlic mashed potatoes speechless. And our birthday girl went with the jerk salmon and asparagus. She loved it so much she cleaned her plate and couldn't stop talking about how amazing it was. Overall, we had an unforgettable experience. The music, the food, the energy--everything was a 20/10. If you're in Chicago, this place is a must-visit. I made it there within 48 hours, so no excuses!

Down to earth, no frills attached, and located in a so-so neighborhood, this could be a place that has you raising your eyebrows doubtfully. Cast those aside, and sit yourself down for some of the best music this side of the river. Crowd is dressed up but chill, and everyone is clearly enjoying themselves. We were the only brown people in the joint, but didn't feel the least bit uncomfortable. If anything, Lee's is welcoming - everyone seems to know everyone else, and with all the hugs and hellos, it really seems like a party. Oh, and there's no cover or drink minimum! Hello people, how's that for a true steal?

I went on the Chicago Jazz Club Tour back in August(also the same night I later went to Huck Finn Donuts, to finish off this night), and concentrated on going to the South Side clubs, during that night. I went to 3 out of the 4 far South Side clubs participating on the Jazz Club tour(in addition to other jazz clubs north of here in the city), and of those 3, this was definately my favorite of the 3 I went to. Music was great, and the only downside about this place was that the interior is slightly cramped. Of course too, I also know that was probably somewhat b/c of the fact that so many people on the Jazz Tour came in, at the same time that my dad and myself stopped in here. Anyway though, I'm hopeful I can do a return trip here sooner, rather than later. Not to mention, the location of Lee's isn't in as iffy of an area, as the other 2 south side jazz clubs I went into were in. Plus, it helps that it's easy to heck to park on the street around here, and that there's a White Castle just southeast of here, if I ever make it back down here again, and have a jonesing for a late night snack.
