However, I've been making regular visits out to my family in Putnam County and this has allowed me to drive by the Avon location of Raising Cane's. Today, I finally got a chance to check it out. Raising Cane's is a growing chain that specializes in chicken fingers (or tenders). That's it. That's their gig. When founder Todd Graves proposed the idea in a business class, he received one of the lowest grades because his professor said it wouldn't work. Graves persevered. Named after his labrador (literally named Raising Cane), this chain is growing with three Central Indiana locations currently (Avon, Carmel, Noblesville). As noted, Raising Cane's is based around chicken tenders/fingers in a handful of different combos. They have multiple sides, serve Coke products, and have both sweet and unsweetened iced tea. They have a two-sided drive-thru, though only one side was open at my time of arrival. You can dine inside, however, on this visit I did not. I could tell the curb cuts were appropriate, however, I won't speak to accessibility on the inside. The employees I met were friendly and helpful. I was able to upsize my drink, always a plus, and my order was accurate. I tend to prefer barbecue sauce with my tenders, however, I opted to try their Raising Cane sauce. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Raising Cane's is community minded with six areas of focus - education, feeding the hungry, active lifestyles, pet welfare, entrepreneurship, and "other" (meaning they enjoy supporting community organizations and will consider "other" ideas). While I'm not quite ready to go 5 stars here, I enjoyed the tenders quite a bit and I enjoyed the small order of crinkle-cut fries. The food quality was good and the quantity was a solid meal. Employees were great, the drive-thru went pretty darn quickly, and I have no issues with calling this a solid 4-star experience. I'll definitely be back.

I understand Portillo's is one of those fast food joints anyone is magnetized too be it for a birthday cake shake, Italian beef or even a Chicago dog. We weren't looked specifically for a Portillo's but since one just happened to pop up while driving through Avon we said sure, why not! This location is just like all the other ones. Super consistent with the general feel and the staff also did a great job welcoming us there. After grabbing an Italian beef to take a trip down memory lane, it was devoured quickly while enjoying a soda and fries. Highly recommend this location. Whether going through the drive thru or eating there the food will leave you happy.

Every once and a while I do get a craving for one and then I stop by their Avon location. Most often I just get a Chicago dog at the drive through, which can be a weird experience. Often folks stand out there and take your card, no cash, put a sticker on your rear view mirror and then you get to drive up to the window to claim your food. A little while ago I met a friend there for dinner. There were lines waiting in front of those kiosks to order... I hate those things. Went around all those folks and stepped up to the counter, was taken care off immediately and received my food before half of the kiosk users were even done ordering. I do have to say service was friendly and efficient.

Then we waited to be noticed by the wait staff. And we waited, and waited. It took 17 minutes before anyone came to our table. We would have left but we had a $50 gift certificate to use. Finally someone came over. We ordered teas & an appetizer of flaming saganaki. We found it very tasty. For entered I ordered the Greek meatball sandwich. My wife got a cup of egg lemon bowl ( which is a soup she loves) & Keftethes ( with beef meatballs). I found the fries god & the meatballs & bread decent but the sauce was a little off to me which greatly reduced my enjoyment. It was just ok. My wife thought the soup was a bit thin but overall god with a strong lemon flavor. Her entree the meatballs were good, the green beans were cold & the roasted potatoes were decent. Overall she was meh. We ordered desserts to go. Baklava, Galaktoboureko ( custard in philo dough) & Oreo cake. Wife thought the baklava had an overpowering cinnamon taste which hurt it. The Galaktoboureko was basically sugar cream pie with philo crust. I thought it was ok but wife thought it should have been thinner. She also believes the to go containers aren't sufficient for these desserts due to the sugar syrup. The "Oreo cake" had one cookie to the side & was dry. When we gave the waitress our gift certificate she said they would take that off when they rang up the bill. She came back & the gift certificates were not taken off. I pointed this out to her & she went back to talk to whoever is running the register. When she came back she said she has no idea what's going on but they gave me a $50 bill to credit the $50 in gift certificates. My amazing wife surmised that they credited someone else's bill & gave us the $50 to make it right for us. Bottom line is all the staff we interacted with were friendly but the restaurant is very disorganized. Food was just ok. Can't say we were impressed.

I'm a relative novice when it comes to Sonic Drive-In. Since it primarily exists in Indy's suburbs…read morerather than directly in Indy, I'm seldom near one with the exception of when I'm out and about for work or other obligations. This location is almost smack dab on the line between Avon and Indy. It's set off to the side of Meijer's parking lot, though it has a decent-sized space once you get there. Sonic is known for its "drive-in" option - the ability to pull up with a retro-vibed ordering screen and carhops who will bring the food to your car. There's also a drive-thru, which I utilized, for those in a bit of a hurry. Because I seldom make it to Sonic, I always forget how it works. The drive-thru made it pretty simple, though in retrospect I kind of wish I'd gone for the Sonic experience. I really only wanted a snack, in this case tater tots, and a drink. In this case, I opted for a large iced coffee. While Sonic is generally known for being economical, I thought it was a bit high (I honestly don't remember the exact price - I just remember thinking it was more than expected). The employees were friendly. The line moved a tad slow, though it wasn't bad. I thought the iced coffee was a bit chintzy - yes, I'm glad there was lots of ice, however, it definitely wasn't close to filled to the top. You had to really put the straw in there to get to the coffee. The tater tots, a Sonic fave, were delicious. I ordered a medium order. Overall, this was a solid mid-range experience for me. Would I return? Sure. Would I go out of my way to return? Probably not. Sonic has a menu that is both somewhat traditional in terms of fast food and a bit unique in terms of defining its place in the fast food world. Now that I know this is here, and I missed it for a long time, I'll no doubt return when I'm in the mood for more than a snack.
