There were trees surrounding the cabin area, a swing on the front porch, a grill and picnic table in the backyard, and there is a 2-person jetted tub along with a shower stall inside. It had such a comfortable feel to it. Full kitchen and a table for 4, a small TV and a blu-ray player, and a comfortable full sized bed. The couch was a futon, so if you need another bed, it's ready to go! There was enough space to set up our large crate for our dog. We stayed at the Zonta cabin. Overall, I had such an enjoyable time. Nothing beats waking up early in the morning to some fresh, cool air, the trees swaying gently and a nice stroll with the doggo away from traffic and car horns honking and people hurrying to get to places. I got a lot of peaceful reading time done, about 4 hours' worth of hiking in 2 days, and worked on some puzzles we borrowed from the office. I'm very happy to report that Kishauwau's cabin fit the bill nicely. Kishauwau is what I've been describing as a cabin development. There are about 15-16 cabins in an area that backs up to the Vermillion River. In fact, the ravines behind some of the cabins are very steep. Anyone with small children will have to keep a close eye on the kids every minute they're out back. The scenery is spectacular, but oh boy, you don't want anyone sliding down that ravine. Our cabin had all the basics we needed -- a double bed, a fold-out futon couch, a big bathtub with a separate shower, and a kitchen stocked with plates, silverware, pots and pans, dishwashing liquid, and more. Every cabin has a outdoor fire ring, a grill, a porch swing, chairs, and a picnic table. The larger cabins had several chairs and tables. We had a TV with a DVD player -- you can borrow DVDs from the plentiful supply in the office building. NO INTERNET! If you can't live without access to instragram, you will be out of luck. So, be sure to plan ahead for ways to entertain yourself. I should also mention that the cabin was spotlessly clean when we arrived. The grounds are neat and well-maintained. The office has simple supplies for sale such as toothpaste, shampoo, etc., along with some snacks and drinks. There is also a small gift shop. I've already recommended Kishauwau to two friends here in Chicago. I'm very happy to recommend it to you, too.

I suppose those more luxurious rooms were more expensive than mine, but I loved my room. They all have closets and a tv. The bed and breakfast is clean and charming. It is a large house and has a very large living room, computer room, kitchen, dining room, a screened porch, and family room. If my count is correct, I believe they have five bedrooms, some of which are large an have multiple beds and a couple have a single bed. The b&b is filled with beautiful decor. The owners, Linda and Karl Reichert, are lovely people who welcomed my whole party with warmth and delicious food. They make amazing breakfasts. The day before, you are given a menu for a three course breakfast. You choose what you'd like for each course. The first course is a fresh fruit bowl, the second is a bread course, such as homemade scones or muffins, and the third is an entree, such as pancakes or egg concoctions. All of their food was homemade from scratch. The scones were the best I've ever had in my life. Linda told me she shares recipes and gave me her scone recipe. The yard is fantastic. They have a gazebo, apple and walnut trees, a flower garden, a vegetable garden, and fruit plants. The fresh fruit you eat in the morning and some ingredients for other dishes come from their own personal garden. There is plenty of room for children to play and pets to run. For entertainment, there are tvs in every room and in the family room, there is a dart board, they have board games, and Muscatine is only a ten minute drive. This bed and breakfast is everything a b&b should be. The home is wonderful, the yard is gorgeous, the food is delicious and the people are fantastic. I would recommend strawberry farms to anyone and everyone.

I felt SO LUCKY to have found this place. The hosts were like family and sat me down to have some sherbet as soon as I arrived. (I likely looked a bit heat damaged!) My room was upstairs in the house was large with a bath. The breakfast was very tasty. I particularly liked that all the guests sat at the same table. Traveling alone makes this feature a real delight.

Everything was very "period". It was quiet, clean, and easy access to restaurants in Bloomington. We bounced a dinner idea off Brian and he heartily agreed - and it was great! Left at 9:00 the next morning, refreshed and happy.

Some rooms felt a little piecemeal antiqued, but it's understandable that many of the houses original furnishings and artifacts have moved on with the past owners. We enjoyed exploring the downstairs rooms and tremendously enjoyed art and some of the beautifully crafted woodworking throughout the house. The real highlight of the stay was the secret Underground Railroad quarters in the basement. It was a fascinating space, had some great written interpretation, and was decorated in a great homage to the era. The experience of discovering this space was a mini-adventure that we really appreciated and enjoyed. All in all, communication for booking the place was easy, as was check-in and check-out. Our only criticism is that it felt more like an Air BnB rather than a true b&b because we never actually met any of the property owners or staff and breakfast was a 24 hour make-it-yourself continental breakfast with generously stocked supplies and groceries. This was an accidental stay in a beautiful house. I somehow came across the Great House while…read moreplanning a weekend away in Galena. It was probably the G named town's to be honest. Blame it on beginning of the year teacher brain. We spoke to the owner and were charmed. We made Galesburg or halfway point so we didn't have travel as far each way. When we arrived, the Great House was just in front of us and it was GREAT! The immense house was beautiful. We followed the entry steps and let ourselves in. We found our room, got settled and quickly explored the beauty of the first floor. The safe was the most surprising beautiful aspect for me. We did not have much time, as we headed to Reserve Artisan Ales for a bite. When we came back around 10, house was quiet. We left early the next morning to be able to make our ticketed plans in Galena in time and did not utilize the 24 hour continental breakfast option (at all during our stay). When we returned around 930 that evening, the guests were quiet, as well. While I was awake between 2 and 430, I was able to hear others having conversation and utilizing the restroom in their rooms. If you are not a light sleeper, this should not be bothersome (as my husband slept through it). The house is beaitiful and well maintained. I did utilize the Keuring PJ coffee bar in the morning. All four rooms for rent are on the second floor.
