Le Botaniste was hands down our favorite place to eat in Ghent. The food was super fresh, really…read morehealthy with perfect ingredients, and packed with flavor! My beautiful Bride was extra excited because of this sign (in the pic I posted) at the entrance. "Food is Medicine", has been a mantra of hers for the last few years. This place has such a cool and unique look inside and just feels good to be in. The people working there were very kind and super helpful, and everything we tried was delicious. If you're in Ghent, take a break from the fries and stop here!
This is a really cool and unique spot!…read more Both GF and I had this place on our list being vegetarian/vegan leaning. I tried to bring my parents here for lunch however as soon as we walked through the door, the staff behind the counter didn't waste a moment of our time and informed us that there were no tables. We were disappointed but got around to doing some other shit and then by the time we were finished, figured we could go back to see if things had opened up. Fortunately, they had and we were able to snag a table easily. By this time, it was dangerously close to dinnertime and in the interest of having enough gastric space for dinner, we were light with this "snack". Both I and one of my dining companions ordered one of their soups. I don't recall much of the specifics other than the fact that it was green and delicious. Two of my other dining companions ordered the "veggie balls" which I had a chance to try, they were quite good. The veggie sushi was also ordered and received positive reviews. The inside/entrance area is really cool and they have a really impressive menu with tons of stuff. I saw some spreads/hummuses that I would have wanted to try if it weren't for the gastric space issue. I can see why it's hard to get a table!

Reasonably priced but this really is an outdoor cafe with not so great service. The waiter was…read moreeither very new or inattentive because he didn't seem to know the menu. The owner was very nice and the food was okay.

They also have a small choice of cakes and desserts. There's a wide range of drinks, including alcoholic beverages. You are asked to clear away your plate afterwards. I found the food to be tasty and fresh, though the pumpkin-based "cheesecake" might be a more acquired taste, though the banana cake and brownies were delicious. Expect to pay around €15-20 for a good helping plus fizzy water (available by the glass, 0.5 or 1.0 litre carafe).

This cafe is actually pretty good! We were looking around for a reasonably priced spot to sit and…read moreeat a lunch and we were so happy to have found this place. It's true that the menu isn't super expansive, but we tried the quiches, the sandwiches, and the croques (like a grilled wrap) and all were very good! They also all come with a nice side salad, which is a welcome veggie in a place where we found it hard to find. Also, unlike prior reviews, the two people we interacted with were both extremity friendly and helpful. Also, my mother found a piece of napkin in her salad and they immediately apologized and offered her a new salad which they brought a few mins later. It also has outdoor seating and is right on a canal so on a sunny day would be perfect. They also play classical music inside so it's an oasis within a busy town. We had a great experience at this place.
Simple but good…read more There were not that many options for lunch, and two out of four quiches were not available anymore, but I think this is in general a good sign. I have my doubts whether all ingredients are fresh when there are too many choices. That being said, the menu could be a bit more original. The sandwich (humus and feta), quiche (cheese andomato) and soup of the day (tomato) were all tasty. The cappuccino and cafe latte were more than great. We did not have any room for cake, but the cake of our neighbor looked delicious ;-) The coffee came with self made cookies, a nice detail. The two ladies who served us were very friendly, speaking Dutch, French and English (we were still a bit confused which language to speak coming from Brussels, haha). Prices are very reasonable.
