Many parents joined the children, who were as young as five; and all seemed to enjoy making a unique gift that they could finish in an hour and take away with them. Especially appreciate the staff, who are always helpful and friendly. Sometimes I stop in just to visit for a few minutes, when I'm passing through town. A relatively small facility but they work with the larger libraries in the area and can help you with most of your library needs.

I got to the hill that the graduation was done on and as soon as I got to the area and tried to go down the stairs to sit on the hill security screamed "everyone off the stairs" the only way to get off the stairs was to go under the handrail or take them all the way down the hill. I went under the bar to sit on the hill which was extremely muddy from the rain the day before thankfully I brought a blanket or I would have been covered in mud. The trees at the bottom block a lot of the stage area the students were sitting near. Very pretty college all together.

Incorporated officially in 1801, its founding goes back at least to 1747 when the plan for a town at this location was developed by the colonial governor of the Virginia Colony, and given the name Staunton after the popular governor's wife, Rebecca. I guess the name "Gooch," didn't pass muster (The actual name of the appointed official). The arrival of T.J. Collins in 1891 was the primary factor in the town having such a rich and diverse commercial and residential architecture. He and his two sons designed over 200 buildings downtown, primarily along Beverley and Augusta Streets, the main intersection. A guided or even unguided walking tour will show you many styles of classic architecture, including Romanesque Revival, Second Empire, Chateauesque, Richardsonian Romanesque, Queen Anne, and Italianate. The Staunton Public Library is a result of the refurbishment of the original schoolhouse drafted and built under the guidance of T.J. He left behind a town center that make it unique and worthy of a few days exploration. When exhausted from all the intricacies of architecture and physically tired from climbing up and down the hills, you can take a break and visit The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum and catch a live performance at Blackfriars Theater. While there aren't many five star restaurants here, there are enough local kitchens to keep you satisfied and a brace of taverns and breweries to keep your stomach full and whistle wet almost any hour of the day, except Monday, when it seems most of town is closed up tight.

This morning dozens of people gather outside Staunton Courthouse waiting to go in for whatever…read moreappointment they had. Some starting around 8 AM some closer to 9 AM, no one was permitted to enter. Eventually a sheriff (around 9AM) comes out to hang a sign on the door "Courthouse closed due to flooding". When people took out their phones to take photos of the sign, mind you no one was contacted to cancel their appointments (that they likely had missed a day of work for), they were told they were an allowed because it was a government building. Now my understanding is Stanton is a tourist town that in fact promotes publicity and photo taking, including the "State" courthouse. None of these patrons were contacted letting them know their appointments were canceled, they stand out side, some more than and hour.....then to have proof of the sign, that was posted after their appointments were supposed to have already started.... THEY WERE DENIED. Talk about injustice. Total BS. ** 0 stars should be an option**
