I truly can't speak enough to the quality of not only their candles, but their customer service! I was in town from California when we decided to stop in and make candles, which we loved! The scents were great, the people so kind, & the process so fun (and the cost is more than fair). However, we made the mistake of picking up our candles the next day on the way to the airport and keeping them in our carry ons. In a crazy turn of events, they were confiscated as potential explosives, leaving me candle free, disappointed, and with a much more exciting travel day than originally planned. I contacted the store just to share my funny story & recommend that they tell anyone they know is traveling to absolutely check their candles haha. We laughed, they thanked me for the heads up, and I didn't think anything of it until an hour later I got a text from Maddie saying she'd shared my story with the team and the manager wanted to make it right by recreating and sending me new candles free of charge! Only a week later and I just opened my perfectly packaged and freely shipped new candles, made to my same specifications all at their insistence! I know shipping cross country can't have been cheap, and I couldn't be more grateful to this small business for truly going above and beyond for me. My ardent fervor for candles burns just as bright as it did in my previous review (I know, lazy pun but I just had to). It doesn't matter where I see them, I am going to smell them. Each and every one. And this is by far my favorite place to do just that. Sometimes it's to reacquaint myself with the staples like Earth or Tobacco or Sunflower. Sometimes it is to check out the seasonal scents like Warm Bread or Tomato Vine or Macintosh. And often this is done with one or more of my furry family members in tow. So concerning the variety and quality of scents and the friendliness of the team, unmatched. The ambiance remains calming and serene. And now, you have wine and beer to purchase while doing a pour. They still have the upstairs space for private events. What I want to touch on this time around though is the option to purchase just the fragrance oil. I was diehard candles until one of my furry family members (who was older) started having some breathing issues. I didn't want to produce smoke indoors and (thanks to my aging eyes) I realized a flickering flame can be distracting while watching a show/movie. Thus my transition to a diffuser. I knew many use essential oils with them, but I soon learned you could use fragrance oil as well. And in turn, learned that Augusta Candle Company sells their fragrance oil (aka, the stuff that gives the wax a scent). I was hooked! Once I accumulated a few, I also realized I can mix and match (my current favorite is Macintosh and Caramel). It smells like a candied apple. I highly recommend this option. Of course this place is a perfect fit in downtown and I look forward to their continued success in the years ahead. And just a reminder, candles have to sit 1.5 hours after you pour the wax. read more

It was a faster process than I anticipated. We got there around 6 and it was crowded! Only a few bartenders were working. If you want to get your candle back the same day, get there before 530. We picked our fragrances and containers, then found an open spot at the bar. The oils are more potent than when smelling the candle! I put a couple of scents back because of the difference. I received a Birthday gift card to this Candle shop which I've always walked past it, but never went in. Once you enter the store you're greeted and given a card which you will fill out w/ your name and walk over to a wall of alphabetized scents. You can add several choices, but only 3 will be selected after you've decided which is your favorite. Next you pick out a jar which will contain your completed scents once mixed. Came on a busy Saturday afternoon, and I can say I won't make that mistake again. It was crowded, but I was still able to complete the process in a timely manner. I wish it was a bit quieter so it could have added to the calm and therapeutic atmosphere I had imagined would have been as I made a candle, but such is life. We come in and are greeted by the sweetest girl who explained to us the process of creating our own unique candle, and even came from behind the counter rather than just pointing. I wish I had remembered her name. I swear everyone's name started with a T though. Anyways, we pick a few scents we really like, and they're all listed alphabetically. Once we picked the scents, we chose a container. The bigger the container, the longer your candle will burn. And after we chose our container, we sit down at the bar and wait. Taylor helped us bring our mad scientist potions to life. She seemed kind of standoffish at first, but she warmed up slowly. She helped make recommendations when some scents didn't work as well, and was so patient with me. You're given free reign as to how much or how little of the oil you add to the little silver mixer, and that actually was intimidating. It's all personal preference so get slightly crazy. They gave us a 2 hour time frame to come back and pick them up, or if another day worked better, that was fine too. We ended up coming back and I can say my candle smells exactly like I wanted it to. Baked banana bread without any of the work? Yes please! We'll be back soon as their fall scents should be rolling out, these also will make amazing Christmas gifts too. read more

So our monthly adventures to try "new" local businesses we've never been to before led us here. Wasn't sure what to expect, I mean...making candles doesn't sound like a lota fun, specially for most guys. I can tell you now that I had a great time. It smells really great as you'd hope and expect from a candle shop. The kicker here is you get to make your OWN candles! Salts or lotions! apparently...which I totally wanna go back and try now. Cause why not!? I like fun. They have a butt ton (yes this is a real metric!) Of candles and scents/oils. So many that it could take you a while if you chose to go berserk and sniff every single one! Haha. I have a terrible sense if smell but had an easy time with these. You get 15 lines, I cheated and added more lines because #indecisive. I ended up making an orange zest, bourbon, banana Brulee candle (YUM!)... I named it "bourbon Orange-nana"! my daughter (5) made a hot cocoa/bubble gum lol...can't wait to light that one up, should be interesting... but fun non the less! Lol. I was very impressed with the staff. They're all so pleasant and helpful and we even had quite a few laughs. This place has a very "comfortable" atmosphere. One of the young ladies helped my little girl make her candle as much by herself as possible while still helping her to not make a huge mess, and it made her incredibly happy. Shes so excited that she got to make her own candle. Money well spent! You can have quite the large party upstairs if you reserve it. Would be pretty awesome/fun to see what everyone else comes up with. Due to covid restrictions I recommend calling ahead to meake sure there is space, but we just showed up and there was plenty of space. They lightly enforce covid distancing where possible, but its nothing crazy, wear a mask, sniff awesome candles and have fun! Its a little expensive, but its worth the experience and its totally worth stopping in here once in a while for some fun and also a cool DYI candle with delicious scents...I gravitated to anything that resembles something edible...cause #oink. :) I will definitely be back! My sister loves this place and raves about it to anyone that will listen! We stopped by during First Friday festivities. We parked on the side of 11th street and there was ample parking and of course, it's free. It smells so good when you walk in. I was very excited to make my own candle. They also have other choices, such as make your own body scrubs, your on scented spray for your home, and many different candle jar sizes. You're greeted when you walk in and they give you instructions on choosing scents and picking out the type of jar for your product of choice. They have a wall full of scented oils from different flowers, herbs, even leather. You walk and smell them and write down the ones that pique your interest. Once you've had enough of sniffing, you go to the counter and they tell you which scented oils work well together. I chose Anjou pear, pineapple, and sweet basil. It smells so delightful! I named my candle "sweet paradise." You mix the oil together to your liking and then pour them in the candle wax and stir it up. Then, voila, you've made your own scented candle! My candle was $18 and that was because of the size candle jar I chose. It takes about an hour and a half for the candle to set. I opted to pick my candle up the next day because they were closing within the hour. The staff was very helpful and the place was very clean. I'll be back for sure! read more

I just had the MOST fun I've ever had on a work day! Maddie took such great care of us. She was patient, kind, knowledgeable and super fun. Our school invited us for candle making for teacher appreciation week. they reserved the space, and we were able to bring our own catering for dinner upstairs before making our candles. I didn't know about this company until a couple months ago, but I've been there several times since! It was a fun bachelorette party site and a great date night for me. I made a sugar cookie/burnt sugar lotion that feels amazing! We've also made a peppermint, a hazlenut/coffee, and a floral candle as well. What a really awesome concept for a store. You can come here for yourself, make something for someone, come with friends or for a date! You can make your own candles and now lotions and sugar scrubs too. You grab your clipboard and write down all the scents you like that you've smelled from the wall. Once you've done that a wonderful staff member, mine happened to be Theresa, help you find the best scent combination. Once you figure out what you like best, it's time to balance the scent. It's literally like a really awesome science experiment. One you actually enjoy lol. Once you've poured the scents in, you dump it into your wax. Then you name your candle loveee that I get to name it!! After that you wait until it's set. You can wait a couple hours or come back another time and get it. I love love love this place. I just wish they would charge a flat refill price per ounce and not a discount off whatever you initially purchased. It really digs into the pocket when you purchase on of their Tire City Pottery pieces. I don't like getting charged a premium multiple times for a high end piece of pottery. I was visiting Augusta and stopped at this store to check out the candles. It has an interesting concept where you mix and match scents to create your own candle. Unfortunately I had a terrible experience and would not recommend this establishment to anyone. The two employees working at the candle bar today were rude and unhelpful. They could not explain what a reed diffuser is and how to put together the scents. When I asked about making a candle the employee said it was "self explanatory." Well, it obviously wasn't to me since I was asking. And since the business provides a paper explaining the process, which was not offered to me, it is clearly not self explanatory. The two employees were unprofessionally eating their lunches on the candle bar, and that was apparently more important than helping me. When my guest put together some scents that did not, in fact, smell appealing, they would not let us start over. Yet they did not disclose in advance that it was a one shot deal. And given the expensive price for the bad smelling candle, that is a huge downside to this experience. They also did not help guide choices. Only after we put together scents did they volunteer that one of them "smells like medicine." The concept is interesting, but the interaction was so awful that I would not go back or recommend it. The face that a business presents to the public is important, and these two employees were rude, unhelpful, and do a disservice to the company. read more

WOW! What a cool addition to downtown Augusta. I'd seen some of their Instagram posts, and that a few of my friends had been down to give it a go. I am the social chair for my neighborhood, and thought that this would make a great place to do a Ladies Night Out. I sent Amy an email, we chose a date and talked about the options for group parties. Easy peasy! We had a great turnout, and the activity was super fun! Everyone loved smelling all the different scents and comparing what they'd picked out. It's a quick activity that works well for a group, as it is easy to chat and mingle AND make your candle. Here is a step by step of how it works: 1. Pick your container- they've got shelves of them to choose from. 2. Get Smelling! Smell all of some of the scents. Pick your favorites and write them down on the clipboards that they provide. 3. The staff will then help you choose which of your chosen scents will blend well together. 4. Pour your oils into the jigger, and then into the melted wax which has been poured into your container. 5. Stir! 6. Let the candle set. - This does not take as long as you think. I thought I may have to go back to pick some up for some ladies that had to dash out early, but everyone's set pretty quickly. You can take your own refreshments, which I did. Parking was not a problem on a Tuesday night. The space is beautiful. You do not have to have an appointment or do a party. You can just show up and make a candle or a bath scrub! I am visiting my sister in Augusta and she planned a candle-pouring day for us yesterday (a Wednesday). It was a delightful experience. Gary greeted us and instructed us to grab a clipboard, pick out a container, and check out the fragrance wall (100 scents) and write down our favorites. I could have easily picked out 75, but I settled on 12. Then we sat at the bar where we mixed our scents (up to 3 per candle). Gary is a great help here as he can guide you to a good blend. Then you pour your blend into the hot soy wax that has been poured into your container. It takes about 90 minutes for the candle to cool, so we headed over to Beamies for lunch and Boll Weevils for dessert. There are lots of ways to kill time on the block. Our candles were ready when we returned. We burned one last night. Gary is definitely in the right job. Pleasant conversation, patience, knows his craft. Love this place! It adds so much to the Augusta downtown area. My husband and I went here on a date and had so much fun making our own candle. We also took friends when they visited--they ended up making candles and hand soap (I believe you can also make sanitizer or lotion). Just smelling the scents is an experience--they have a huge variety, ranging from basil and cucumber to leather and old books!
