For Christmas. I gave my wife several pieces of jewelry handed down to me from my grandmother that include several rather large diamonds. A relative of mine highly recommended August Stephenson as the area's best jeweler to work with on making a custom designed ring. So during the first week of January, we both had a day off from work. We decide to drive over from Brandon, only to find out they were closed. Yet Yelp shows them open, their website shows them as open, their voicemail shows them as open. But too bad for us I guess - they are closed. Since we both work, we decide the next time we can come all the way over is on the last Saturday of the month, which they advertise as being open on Yelp, their website and on their voicemail. So tonight, on Friday night, I check Yelp to a refresh on directions and now what do I see? They are closed on the last Saturday of this month! We've waited three weeks -for what? Enough. We have tried to bring you our business based on a referral. But if we can't count on your advertising to be accurate, maybe it's a sign your business doesn't really care about attracting new customers. You might be the areas best jeweler but clearly your marketing skills are amateurish at best. We're done wasting our time trying to give you our business and our money. read more

Michelle had designed my magnificent wedding ring. So, she was top of the list when I decided to have a custom piece designed. My brother had passed away and left our father's rings. I only had a vague notion that I wanted something created using my father's rings and to remember my brother. Through her creative process, Michelle helped me decide on a pendant with the birthstones of my brothers and myself, using diamonds from my father's rings. (One brother was an April birthday.) It's a very sentimental piece for me. We don't go out much these days with the pandemic, but every time I wear the necklace, I get compliments. I bought my wife's engagement ring from August Stephenson 20 years ago and when it needed to be repaired 2 years ago, we brought it back to them to replace a missing stone on one side of the ring. Since that first repair in 2017 we had to take back the ring 4 TIMES to replace the same stone. The last time it was replaced was April 2019, and we had to take it back in August 2019 again. Each repair cost between $100 to $300. When my wife went to pick up the ring today, they told her the repair was $150 (replace one missing stone and one cracked stone) she noticed that the shank of the ring is distorted and then noticed the cracked diamond was NOT replaced! The owner insisted that they cannot repair a 20 year old ring and suggested it was time to "upgrade" to a new ring! He was extremely condescending and rude and then told my wife he will keep the ring and replace the cracked diamond. My wife was furious! She paid for the one stone that was replaced and took her ring back. We will NEVER step foot in this store again! I would expect that after being a customer for over 20 years, they would stand behind their pieces and at least offer some kind of good Will gesture to us, but they did nothing to keep us as customers. They did the exact same repair 4 times in 2 years? Come on! Scammers! read more

I went to the store today because I've developed an allergy to my white gold wedding and engagement combo. I went with the intention of purchasing a platinum setting. I like my original setting a lot and did not want to have to spend the money, but did not see another option. Chris showed me ring sets and was not pushy. He then told me the option of rhodium plating and cleaning my ring instead of purchasing a new one if I liked my original setting. Instead of pushing the sale of an expensive set, I wound up spending less than $100. It's not guaranteed that I won't react to the white gold again now or within the next few years, but it was another option that was much more affordable and will likely work. Most jewelers would not have advised me of that option. I appreciated his honesty and truly he just wanted me to be happy and knows that I will be back in the future to purchase other jewelry. There should be more retailers like this. They are a family owned business from what he told me. And it showed. We will be back. read more
