She was very accommodating and had another one of her stylist handle my daughter while starting on my hair. My hair was super damaged and in need of some love. I fell in love with one particular hairstyle and color and I booked an appointment. I was so impressed by the cleanliness of the salon and the adorable decor. Found this place in a desperate moment needing a whole hair overhaul. I searched online for a place with solid reviews and pictures to back it up. Jodi rescued me in the best way. Not only did she fix my sad graying & tired 40'ish yr old hair but she gave it new life with a hair treatment that strengthened & nourished it and worked some magic with beautiful color shades. I have super fine AND thin hair & she treated it gently, gave me some truly helpful aftercare/self hair care advice, & a cut that had even me believing it wasn't as limp and lifeless as I'd walked in believing. The salon is chill and even with me being quite an introvert Jodi is easy to vibe with and makes it an enjoyable session. I've now been a couple times, will continue to go, & definitely recommend. It is very disappointing to have to write this review as I would rather not have to but I don't know what else to do. I have been a licensed stylist myself for 24 years and I am certified in some types of extensions. The main stylist I saw was Randi-Ray. I originally wrote her a good review but after a few people commented on my hair and how much blonder it looked (not the crown) I noticed how different it was to when I originally came in. I am providing 7 photos. Photo #1 is of my gorgeous hair/extensions that I came in with and all I wanted was for it to stay exactly the same with my extensions moved up as they were. The only difference was I just needed a couple of my highlights on the top blended a little more but they all went much too dark. Photo #2 is what I show a stylist and my hair is based on that photo. Multiple times throughout my appointment, Randi cut down my stylists work from CA that I had paid $1600 for and my original stylist from Santa Barbara, CA Talk of the Town by Tami did an amazing job as can be seen in photo #1. Randi decided that her way was better but I did not get a better result as I ended up very blond and Randi did try to redu the extensions, but then they ended up too dark as you can see in the photo number 3. I tipped her as well when she redid them. I paid Randi, August Pearl salon $800, within that was a generous tip. I needed to add a few highlights back into the top/crown so I offered to pay to have it redone. She booked me with her assistant. I believe her assistant is a good stylist, however she put the foils in going the wrong direction so my hair still looked dark. I had showed her the photo #2 that I model my hair after and described exactly what I wanted and result was photo #4. I paid another $100. I messaged Randi, sent a photo showing how dark my hair was still and it didn't even look like it was highlighted. Randi sent me back a text saying that there is a lack of communication as to what I wanted and she fired me as a client. I called the owner, Jodi and told her what happened. Jodi agreed to put in a few highlights. When I got there, Jodi was very nice and I showed her the photo #2 of exactly what I wanted. I thought for sure this time I would have highlights that would show up like the photos #1/#2. After it was dried, my hair was still hardly any different (see photo #6) She said that she wanted it to blend with the bottom but that again was not what I asked for. I then showed her photo #1 as that is how I walked into her salon and she could see that there was a clear difference and she said that she would talk to Randi. I messaged Jodi to get an update a few days later. See photos of Jodi's text messages to me. There was not enough room to type them out so I had to do screen shots. I could not believe it. I again re-explained that I walked into her salon looking like photo #1 and now I look like photos #3-5, nothing like what I came in with or what I wanted and now my hair had been bleached and processed 3 times at her salon. I also paid fairly. I also explained that my extensions were coming out as you can see in photo #7. She completely ignored me. Unbelievable! I was very specific as to what I wanted with photos and how I came into the salon. I was in NO WAY difficult to work with as Jodi saw for herself. I was no different with her than the other 2 stylists. It's very obvious that her other stylists were gaslighting me to save their reputation with their boss Jodi and making me the client look bad. Also, if they took anymore time to fix it the way I paid for, then they would be losing money as time is money for them. The photos are clear, I paid almost $1,000 to August pearl and now I have to pay another stylist about $500 to fix my color for the 4th time and my extensions in terms of color for the 3rd time and the fact that they are coming out. I would not recommend this salon as Jodi stated they make you sign a form stating that they do not do refunds, yet they won't fix what you pay for. Alyssa is a magical faerie or you can call her a hairdresser that fixed my hair. Before her, my hair had a harsh grow out of two different lines of red near my roots & everything was choppy; not cohesive at all. We first did a consult which was super helpful to figure out what was doable and what I wanted. Plus we talked price & things no other hair dresser ever discussed with me before like what I want it to look like pulled up and half up. I was so hesitant with getting my hair done by someone else after a bad experience from another salon. Alyssa made me feel at home & she felt like a friend I've had my whole life. I have been seeing jodi every 6-8 weeks consistently since October 2015. From the very beginnings of APS, Jodi has grown her business and her team with incredible care and attention to detail. If you have hair and you want an educated, passionate, and wildly talented stylist, look no further than APS. Our first appointment, she rescued me from my hair crisis and brought me back to my favorite red hair color after I spontaneously dyed it box black in college. Though I always want my hair to be some shade of red/maroon, Jodi makes each style unique, vibrant, healthy, and beautiful. The other girls at the salon are so nice - they are a big family and when you come in, you're a part of it. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your "me time". Moved here from Chicago and it has taken me 6 months to finally find my salon after a few fails but I am so glad I found August Pearl! I received a cut and color from Liv and she is honestly one of the sweetest, down to earth people. Well I had filtered through many of the self proclaimed "curl experts" in Nashville and was still disappointed, and one night I stumbled upon Liv's instagram. I have read wonderful reviews. Everyone in the salon was pleasant and nice. I did a consultation, looked at photos, and we selected a color. Later, after 4 hours in the chair, my hair came out a completely different color than that selected. I went home and cried. Real conversation: My mother (two weeks later): When are you going to get your hair done? Me: I just got it done. My mother: Seriously? Me: I'm going to grow it out. Then I'll start over. My mother: Did you pay for that? Me: Yes. My sister: I got better color at Walmart. Me: Apparently it was hard to work with my old color. My sister: I can make you an appointment with my stylist when you come to see me. Mother: Maybe your sister can get something at the drug store. read more

I've debated writing this review for 2 months. I really don't like leaving bad reviews because I understand the implications it can have on a business. But after lots of consideration I think it's important for others to know what I experienced to better prepare when choosing a new salon. Without going into too many details, I had my hair done at August Pearl a few months ago and after 3 visits and 22 hours in the chair I left with two tone, yellow/brassy blonde hair. It looked like I used boxed hair dye. People at work asked me if I dyed it myself. It looked unprofessional, it was bleached twice in one week due to color error and it really looked horrible. I went to another salon and paid for a color correction and have had to continue visiting the salon for treatments and cuts because of the damage. I reached out to the owner, Jodi, and asked for a refund (at least for the color correction) and she denied this request and ignored my follow up email. I sent her photos and explained the situation in detail. She said she was shocked because I offered to tip the stylist after my third time there and seemed pleased. I explained to Jodi that this is because I felt bad for her, I know she spent a lot of time on my hair and lost money not working with other clients and thats just how I am, I want to make sure the stylist is earning enough to survive (which is why I tip well and often). I also explained that because the stylist was so sweet I didn't say anything on my third time being there (all in one week) because I realized it was not going to be corrected in August pearl salon, and I didn't want to hurt her feelings. Here's what you need to know: August pearl will have you complete paperwork before they work with you so read the fine print. You will never be refunded- not even if there is damage They are a very expensive salon. I purchased product (which Jodi said I could bring in to exchange, but I'm not going to do that) and with product and cut, color, treatments and tip I spent $550 dollars The color brand they use appears to look very yellow when trying to go blonde. When I visited the other salons and sent pictures to multiple stylists of my hair that was done at August pearl they said it was not well done and the color was terrible. Owners of other salons suggested I request a refund. I cannot stress enough that you read the fine print on everything you sign at this salon. After my experience I've lost so much money. Starting with the $550 there followed by color correction and having to cut a lot of my hair off because of the damage. Again, I hate to leave this review but I really feel it's needed so other people know what to expect from my experience. read more

I started seeing Jodi at August Pearl Salon a few years ago and I'll never go anywhere else! Like, I'm talking, I would come back to see her if for some reason I ever moved away, style! She is always up for the craziest ideas, constantly expanding and evolving her knowledge and technique, and I have seen her work some absolute magic on color corrections. She's a master at balayage, blending, and vivids. You name it! Seriously go check the salons instagram and look at the literal art these girls are capable of! She's taken me from rosé to balayage to babylights to blue/green/purple tips, and several colors in between! She will always talk through your wish list and give you realistic expectations, and she will never make you feel rushed; all while ensuring your hair stays healthy, and providing you all the tips and tools you need to get the most out of your color or style. Hair care, for women especially, can be very time consuming and expensive. At APS, products are never pushed as an up-sale; they're described and recommended, only because they want you to love your style and keep your hair healthy and fresh for as long as possible. Because of that business mantra, and their amazing personalities, appointments are booked months in advance, and there are many, many, regular clients. The salon has grown, and several new stylists have come on board, and they are all absolutely awesome. The energy and vibe in the salon is fun and inviting--I mean, if you're going to spend hours together, it should be fun, and it definitely is. I highly recommend the Malibu & chem shot treatments. One of the single worst experiences of my hair blonde coloring for 20 years. I found stylist Katelyn on instagram with a hashtag looking for baby lights in Nashville. She represents her self as a blonde specialist. I went in with about 1 1/2" root and a previous blonde baby light job done by a stylist from L.A. that I loved. I explained I prefer a very light hi light without gold and no ashy toners. My hair regrowth to my ears was in silky condition considering its naturally curly and hi lighted. I was proud to have grown out most of the underlayer the last year and bragged about this to her. I showed her multiple pictures of my hair the previous 2-3 times I've had it done before moving here. Anyway, she insulted me multiple times with a very condescending attitude about everything to with my hair and what works for me. I find that strange in a stylist because at the end of the day, the client is left with the hair style and damage to care for after the fact so the clients opinion should come first or at least matter. She over hilighted my hair to a brassy shade of gold and then over toned it grey to try to compensate for the brassiness still peaking through. My hair was overlapped down to my ears and is still cracking to the ears where my old damage was as she bleached over those areas even after I had specifically asked her not to and bragged about how long I'd grown those areas out. I have spots and am waiting to get it fixed as soon as it stops breaking. read more
