Here is what living at Auden was truly like - this is actually in the parking garage
    Santaliz G.

PLEASE DON'T. The building smells like piss, weed, vomit or all of the above. there are pipes leaking in the garage, that leave massive puddles. There's a bunch of trash/ old furniture stockpiled in there. The floors are uneven or have visible dents you could see, and the amenities are not entirely as advertised. You can hear anyone from the floor above you and the walls are very thin. The paint comes off easily and you can see areas with exposed drywall. I find portions of the contract misleading and borderline predatory. They target college students by offering a lease within minutes of submitting an application yet we must agree to these harsh standards in order to lease. The contract states that if tenants wish to get out of a lease contract, they must find someone to take over the lease on their own. There is a portion on the lease contract which makes us agree that allegedly we aren't giving up any of our rights as part of this lease contract. We are also obligated to sign an "as is addendum" stating that we must take the apartment as is, regardless of the condition it is in; they don't clean/do repairs between lease terms. They make you pay the entire first month of rent despite not letting you move in until near-end of August, I found my first apartment completely dirty, and with things damaged. I still had to pay for it after move-out even though I didn't cause it. They show you a model room never-used if you tour. But that's not how you'll truly find the unit. If you do lease here, avoid random assignment. I was in a nightmare and despite the number of complaints I have made, I received no support for my situation. They only offered me an "intervention" after I decided to leave, it was to the point where I no longer felt safe and mediation would not work. The student-staff are decent, but their management don't sound genuine when you're looking for support, like they're reading a script. There's no humanness to this, just looking for profit. I'm glad I left. Tenants deserve sanitary and safe living conditions. Despite me moving out, and having someone else take over my lease they still make charges to my account for utilities. I note this is my personal view of the apartment complex based on the facts of my experience/ observations here as a former tenant. It can be noted that a decent amount of the reviews along with pictures you may find here/on google align with what I have said.

PROS: Great neighborhood...animal friendly...close to Universities and hospitals...on the bus…read moreline...full basement with W/D hookups...maintenance is mostly responsive to requests... CONS: The walls are thin so unless you have decent neighbors you'll get sick of them ( I can hear mine pee in the morning from my bedroom). Shoddy upkeep as far as the grounds are concerned. Gutters haven't been cleaned in the 3 years I've been here so the rain water just kind of pours down our back door and steps. Snow removal is a crap shoot and depends on which guy does it (we lose off-street parking spots to mounds of snow in the winter). The paper thin walls, lack of insulation and unsealed doors and windows mean your National Grid bill WILL be ridiculously high in the winter and likewise high in the summer if you expect to stay comfortable inside. (I was actually told that the reason our drywall cracked upstairs was because there's no insulation in the attic where the HVAC exits...really?!) You can tell the walls have been (poorly) painted see earl times between tenants. The only ventilation in the bathroom is the window so in the winter it's a job keeping brown spots off the walls and ceiling (unless you open said window and freeze.) there is no range hood in the kitchen so: 1. The smoke alarm WILL go off EVERY time you cook/pre-heat the oven, etc. 2. Everything in your kitchen/dining/living room will be covered in greasy cooking by-product and will need to be cleaned and wiped down often. Basements get wet when it rains so your washer/dryer will have to be kept up on wood pallets (if you're lucky enough to get them) that will grow mold and need to be replaced often. Also, on maintenance, for all their responsiveness they don't actually do very much to fix what's wrong in the apartments. They show up, take a look and MAYBE do a patch job...maybe. Also, your lease renewal paperwork will be late every. single. year. It will however be "your responsibility" to give a prompt 60 days notice of intent to vacate, or you WILL LOSE YOUR DEPOSIT.

Lisa called me to ensure my maintenance requests were taken care of and even provided me a credit for a shower-head that was damaged in the process. Thank you and I hope this good relationship continues.

So close to everything, markets, mall, easy access to major highways.15-minute commute to downtown Albany. Apartments were well maintained and very large for the $$$. The most important aspect for me living alone and being an older woman was how comfortable and safe I felt there. Never a hint of trouble in my 20 years there and Neighbors were very friendly. I recently moved to a warmer climate, but my miss the home I made there, it was a great place to live. If you are look for a reasonably priced, safe and comfortable place to live look no further than Hawthorne Gardens.

Our very cozy apartment is ground level, which comes with a few drawbacks (mostly that bugs find their way in more easily, and increased humidity = mold growing more easily). But the maintenance team is very responsive in helping manage these. These apartments were converted from an old folks home so if you're lucky; you'll get a wheelchair accessible apartment with some extra elbow room. The community feels very safe and friendly, walking distance to a variety of stores. Laurie (the property manager) is a sweetheart and will help you feel that you're right where you need to be.

I'll start by saying DO NOT MOVE HERE. My partner and I moved in on Monday and we are planning on…read moremoving out this week. This place is unlivable. The property manager gave the keys to my partner so he could take our cats inside while I signed paperwork. Unknowingly he walked into another apartment with our same apartment number and unlocked the door. Apparently every tenant has a master key. When we first walked into our apartment we smelled a gas leak. Nobody in management or maintenance believed us or took it seriously so I called National Grid myself. They sent out a technician and sure enough there was a leak in our stove. We noticed that every single door and window either can't be opened or is very hard to open and close. Including the window to the fire escape, which only opens about 3 inches. The floor boards are so warped and have so many gaps. They also creak so loudly it can be heard from the hallway outside of the apartment. We have no control over the heating. The radiators kick on at 55 degrees and they just turn off whenever. It's either way too hot or way too cold. Also they hiss, rattle, and clang constantly so we haven't been able to get any sleep in 3 days. All of the radiators are being propped up on boards and are lopsided. The bathroom is very small and there are walls on either side of the toilet that are less than 2 ft apart. I barely have room to sit on the toilet and cannot comfortably wipe. There are so many other things wrong like hot metal poles that will burn you if you bump into them, random gaps in the ceiling, walls, and floors, the whole building smelling like weed, and neighbors stealing packages. Please do not move here.

Only complaint is there's no working buzzer system for the front doors. Visitors have to call your cell for you to meet them at the door.
