Spanning 77 acres of Lake Washington lakefront on Mercer Island, Luther Burbank Park was named…read moreafter the famous 19th century U.S. horticulturalist, who crossbred to introduce flowers and crops, including the Russet Burbank potato (famously used by McDonald's to make their iconic french fries). I had the opportunity to visit it twice during a 2 night stay on Mercer Island. It was one of the nicest waterfront city parks I've visited. There are two entrances to the park, with the North and South entrances leading to large free parking lots. The South Entrance was the closer one to both the light rail station and our Airbnb, both about a 20 minute walk away. The South parking lot is closer to the Swim Beach (a nice little beach with a protected swimming area). It is also closer to the Earth Sculpture "The Source" (to me, a cross between crop circles, Indian mounds, and a labyrinth. My wife mentioned she felt a different energy from it as we walked by. The Meadow is a large picnic area between the two parking lots. The North lot is close to the tennis (now pickleball) courts, and all were filled when we walked by. The Amphitheater is also located nearby, and is the place for free performances during the summer months (for 2026, performances of Macbeth by Seattle's Shakespeare Company. At the north end of the park, are two off-leash dog areas (one for smaller, more shy dogs). My son-in-law and daughter took their mini-dachshund there to play, which was enjoyed by everyone. Small note about Luther Burbank: many parks and schools are named after him, including Luther Burbank Elementary School(s) in Long Beach, CA and Burbank, CA (though the city itself was named after a different Burbank).

First off I had no idea they added pickleball courts and was impressed at the 8 very nice courts and good level of competition. The format took a little getting used to as it appeared to have been 4 on, 4 off. I could tell there were a lot of regulars here and everyone really came to play. I wish I could've played here again but I guess it will have to wait until my next visit.

It was easy to find parking, the park is spacious, so people could easily spread out with their lawn chairs (high and low) and it was very family and pet oriented. There is a walking path on the perimeter of the park. Met Market, as well as other eateries are nearby, so a picnic at the park could easily be had. I hope to come back next year, if not sooner, to see Prom Date Mixtape, my fav 80s band play at Mercerdale again.

There are two separate swing sets, two for older kids and two for younger kids. My daughter had a blast exploring, though she spent most of her time on her favorite spot: the swings. If you are planning to visit and not handicap please use the "west" parking lot. Just a heads up there is a sign we saw after we had already been there for hours. When we came a family was having a birthday party in the gazebo. It looked like a great place to have a party. The place is fenced in and good for 2 year olds and up. Shade is great in the summer. The trail down on the right side (when facing the park) is much more steep and snakes around, while the trail on the left side is shorter with a slighter incline/decline. I'd recommend heading up or down from the left end unless you're an avid hiker. While both paths are paved, the space could really benefit from some beautification or sculptures, although it was very quiet and peaceful. There is an odd little pit on the left side with quite a bit of seating, but it's not clear if it was once used for bonfires or if it's meant as a sand pit for children. Either was it was a nice little hike with a gorgeous view.

They have a restroom, volleyball court, a dock, and no life guards (whooo!). Despite it being pretty cold even in mid-summer, it's well worth a swim and one of my favorite beach parks in the greater Seattle area. I have been surprised how lowkey the spot is too. I mean sure it's a bit tucked away but for how nice it is I am glad there is often only a few people.

The sand area was great for the kids to be able to play with their sand toys, there are lifejackets that you can rent for the kids who like to jump off the dock into the water, and it's just a great viewing area to watch all of the planes. There was even an area with a net set up for beach volleyball, which my kids appreciated. The bathrooms were well maintained, and there is a small playground up the hill for a nice change of pace.

I actually got to see a lot of Bellevue thanks to the trails! I think its worth noting that there is a lot of care put in to the grooming of these trails- thanks to those working so hard to keep them maintained! Right is the middle of Bellevue is the terrific trail system that goes between Phantom Lake and…read moreLarson Lake. Even on a perfect day on a weekend, not very crowded. The trial winds through a few thickets, a small bog, a terrific stand of old growth firs and follows a brook that eventually becomes a glorified trench. Plenty of small wild life includes squirrels, rabbits, red-winged black birds, ducks, sparrows chickadees and woodpeckers. While a few signs warned of bob cat, mountain lion and bears (really, in Bellevue?) what I found in most proliferation was the wild and well coiffed Eastside MILF commonly found gazing in Bellevue, Issaquah and Redmond. Both lakes are quite serene and larger than you might suppose. A great in-city adventure, I got in 5 miles of brisk urban hiking. Check Bellevue Park Dept.for various well marked trail heads.

Lovely park with water views and access. The train…read moreplayground is a bit outdated compared to other Bellevue parks but my young kiddos don't mind since it has swings. Lots of parking, walking trails and wide paths perfect for biking, jogging and strolling. Always be mindful of what you leave in your car as it can be hard to see the cars from the beach.

Not that I am trying to objectify people but c'mon, you know you wanna look too lol.
