We had scallops avocado and orange salad, and salted cod with mashed potatoes, aoli, tomato coulis and vegetables. The cod was artfully presented. Each accompaniment was separate on the plate but all mixed and matched together well as one wished. The house white wine was tasty. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the salad was lightly dressed. Each table is given their own olive oil, sea salt, balsamic mister, and pepper grinder to additionally dress salad or bread. Service is typical French, not hovering or rushing the diner. Price for the two entrees plus 25 cl. of wine was only 39 E or about $44.

We had a really fun lunch here in our first afternoon in Provence. It is not cheap, and it is…read moresomewhat risky, as the menu for the day is pre-set, but the food is very good, and the portions are truly enormous -- almost to the point where you wish they'd give you less. The day we were there, the courses were: - Salad - Vegetables and cod - Snails - Cheese - Choice of dessert Each course probably could have been a meal on its own, and on top of all that, we were gorging on their incredible bread throughout the meal. The salad was very good, with the one downside being that it had anchovies, which we're not fans of. We both thought the veggies and fish were fairly pedestrian -- good, but not something I'd be really excited to get again. The snails, on the other hand, were surprisingly great. Neither of us eat snails, but we decided to be brave, and were rewarded for it. They were outstanding, as was the restaurant's home made mustard that we dipped them in. The cheese, though, is what we'll really remember though. For this course, they brought out a giant tray of cheeses, and you take as much of each as you want. By this point in the meal, we were both incredibly stuffed, but it didn't matter -- we took a ton of cheese, and it was tremendous. We both felt pretty gross afterwards, but it was worth it. That wasn't even the end, though -- after a little cool down period, we got dessert. My wife got chocolate ice cream, and I got the chocolate mousse, which was outstanding. Altogether, this is an experience I would definitely recommend, as we really enjoyed it, but it's not without its warts. My biggest pieces of advice would be to be prepared to eat a LOT, and check the menu in advance.

Our first week moving to France, Igor made reservations here on the recommendation of his mother for date night. There are windows into the kitchen so you can watch the chefs as you eat in between courses. Service was flawless. I really liked the head waiter dude. The head chef also came out several times to serve us different courses as well as the super cute pastry chef girl. The only surly person was the hostess girl marching around. There was an amuse bouche of three crunchy tiny pastry things. A lobster. Two fish dishes. A soup and dessert? We did the fixed course, but did not try the wine as I'm pregnant. So the food itself was very... avant garde? Earthy, seafoody, complex, but they seemed to use the same sauce/reduction for almost every dish... and it wasn't exactly my fave. There was a weird cheese souffle dish thing that was way too weird for me, but I'm not a fan of the stinky cheese. I completed 2/3 of the desserts. The meringue was heavenly. You soon realize those are the fruits and vegetables you will be eating for dinner. Just to the left of the garden is a beautiful inn that only has 10 rooms called Mas de La Rose. There is a lovely pool, lavender fields, and grapes growing all around. The restaurant itself is headed up by a chef named Fabien, who takes great pride in each dish, both in the presentation and the fresh ingredients. The outdoor seating on a beautiful southern French night could not be any more ethereal. Yet, there is nothing pretentious about the staff or any part of the restaurant. I started with a salad with the freshest of ingredients, followed by scallops and polenta. The herbs / seasonings/sauces were sublime. Dessert was also a treat with all sorts of homemade sorbets and ice creams. The wine list was short but filled with local gems. This was truly the meal of a lifetime, but reasonably priced (for a wonderful French meal) at 55 Euros for all three courses. I cannot recommend it highly enough and can't wait to go back. Don't miss this hidden gem on your next trip to Provence. Worth the drive!
