The Michelin guide notes Monsieur Jean's cuisine "is traditional and full of flavour." I certainly agree with traditional - there wasn't a single innovative dish on the menu of the day, and my boyfriend and I tried all eight of them (starters, mains and desserts). Think: shrimp in sauce, some very disgusting pate, cod in a bland sauce with white rice, lamb with quinoa salad, butternut squash soup, caramel dessert. Full of flavour? See above - bland sauces, several dishes undersalted, boring boring boring.
The waitress was efficient but nearly disastrous in her clipped manner - wine drops on tablecloth, knocking my boyfriend's chair while serving another table, nearly spilling a glass of wine.
It wasn't all bad - the amuse bouche was good, the spoonful of pistachio ice cream that came with one of the desserts was excellent, as were some of the caramel parts of the other dessert. But overall it was very uninventive and expensive (130 euros for lunch), and not deserving of a Michelin star in my book.
