I was the first customer to be seated, but soon after many other diners came in and filled up the main dining room very quickly. I later realized that there was another dining room as more diners came in and were ushered into the other room. There were 3 soup choices and I chose the noodle soup with beef. For entree I picked a small portion (I.e. 1 piece of meat rather than 2 pieces) of Schnitzel of pork that came with a side dish, and I chose the local home-made noodles. For drink I ordered a small local draft beer. The soup came very quickly and it was a very generous big bowl of soup. My entree came with my choice of sauce and I was very happy with the chunky mushrooms in my mushroom sauce. The schnitzel was quite a big piece of meat so I was glad to have ordered the smaller portion instead of the full portion with 2 pieces of meat. The noodles tasted very good but I could not finish it. The only surprise was that they did not take credit cards so I was glad to have some Euro cash on me. I was happy with the overall experience and a very hearty meal in a very homey setting.

Schwaebische (Swabian) spaetzle, pomme frites, and of course lots of different schnitzel, a main stay of Germany-South. The other area the menu goes deep and exceptional is on panned meats. The germans call it Pfanne. Maybe a mix of steaks in the pan, pork cutlets. If you know some german you can bargain for different sauces on your meats, and then go for spaetzle, pommes or a mix is ok with them too. The Familie Bosch team is relaxed so you definitely ask for things and they will do it. It is a big team so ask anyone on the team for help if they are too busy to see your need. Decent wine list, good schnapps for afterward. It was the best real german on our trip through Frankfurt, Baden, and Berlin. Like you were at grandma's house, and they have a patio and 3 different rooms, I like the rooms in the back near the patio, or the patio itself. ENJOY! Say hi to Carl! Le Hupsa Pfannala is a very enjoyable restaurant located along Alsace's wine route. It has a lovely…read moreoutdoor seating area and serves regional Alsatian specialities, including the hupsa pfannala it is named for. My friends and I ordered one of those (with wild garlic cheese), a tarte flambé with mushrooms, and a pork shank (knuckle?). The tarte flambé was awesome! Imagine a thin crust pizza covered in creme fraiche, onions, ham, and mushrooms, then blanketed in cheese. Yup. Delicious! The hupsa pfannala was less to my taste, probably because of the type of cheese used. It's a mix of potatoes and ham with cheese baked on top. All things I love, but somehow it didn't float my boat. The pork was amazing - it was braised until every bite was tender, richly flavorful, and just falling off the bone. Fantastic! Overall, a great place for dinner when you've finished sampling too much wine. It fills up quickly, so either show up early for dinner or make a reservation.

But then we got in and sat for 15 minutes before being served without the restaurant being full / busy. We also waited to get the water. Good thing food was amazing (snails + regular salad.) Restaurant could have get a better review if the service would have been on point.

I am pleased to be the first English speaker to review this wonderful gem of a restaurant. When I…read morefirst entered this restaurant, I felt that I had hit a true French restaurant. Unpretentious, (the name roughly translates to the "Table of the Market Salesman" friendly and warm, its all about having a good time. I very highly recommend this restaurant. Now, for some details . . . First thing you have to know, is that you must reserve a table in advance! This restaurant is very popular with the locals as well as the odd, well-informed tourist. I saw a few unhappy couples turned away due to the lack of space. The restaurant is truly a small gem and very much worth the visit if you can. The second thing you should know is that the hostess / owner / waitress, Isabelle speaks perfectly good English so language should not be a problem. Her partner, Marc resides mostly in the kitchen working his magic, but he did pop his head out from time to time to see that everything was all right. It was more than all right! Finally, what can I say about the food? My girlfriend had the appetizer of snails, and I had the appetizer of fois gras. The snails were amongst the best I ever had - and since the portion was abundant, served shelled and in a charming glass jar, my generous partner allowed me to sop up the remaining sauce after she had finished the actual escargot. Was it divine? It was divine. I'm a bit of a fois gras fanatic. It's hard to get here in the USA, and when you do, it's very pricey! At Isabelle and Marc's the fois gras was, literally, as good as it gets. It is served sautéed in a pan (not in a pate) with a wonderful side of fresh fig. I wholeheartedly recommend both these appetizers to anyone that wants an outstanding rendition of typical French fare. Our main courses were both wonderful and very memorable. Mari, in keeping with her non-meat preference had the fish, and I had the lamb. They were both wonderful!! Don't think that the French portions are small, we practically rolled out of the place and that's having split a dessert! One final counsel. . . if you can, have some of the eau de vie that they serve there. This is a very strong alcohol similar to vodka, but infused with whatever fruity thing they make with it. I had the pear and Mari had the apple. Wow! If you are familiar with these drinks, you will see that the quality of the eau de vie served here are truly outstanding. Overall, this was not just a great meal, it was a wonderful experience. Isabelle made us feel very much at home, like we were honored guests, not just tourists passing though. Everyone else at the restaurant was (at least) speaking French, and if you can read the French reviews, you will often see something to the effect that this is where the French go for their French food. Please go, and let me know what you think! Say "bonjour" to Isabelle and Marc for me!

This place was filled by 8:00 on a Tuesday night and no one looked ready to leave in less than two hours. When we entered just before 7:00 no other customers had yet arrived and most tables contained a "Reserved" sign. The gracious lady who seated us took the time to read the menu, including the specials, to us English-speaking folks. She even allowed us to sample two different Pinot Noir's so we got the one we both liked. Who even bothers to that nowadays?! My better half ordered the Escargots and the Cordon Bleu nature and I ordered the Spring Roll special and the L'onglet De Boeuf medium rare. Both starters arrived pippin' hot and were delicious. The American-sized entrees were as good as we have ever had. The potatoes, cauliflower, zucchini and carrots were amazing as were the shallots covering my perfectly cooked medium rare steak. It was an experience not just a meal. Though it took a bit of effort to find this fine gem in the Colmar maze, it was definitely worth it. Don't forget the reservation.
