Not because of the property and accommodations…read more(which are both top-class and deserving of the 5-star rating) but because the married couple that operates the bed and breakfast (or "Gite" as the wife, Josee, explained to us) are two of the nicest, most generous, and friendly people I've ever met while traveling. And the breakfast they provide is top-notch -- honestly, it was better than some of the places where we went out to eat. My girlfriend and I stayed at the Gite about a month ago (we were only the second or third guests!) and had an amazing experience. We were visiting to spend time with some of my girlfriend's family friends - she grew up in North Hatley from age 2 to 6 - and one of her close family friends booked the Gite for us. Hosts/Breakfast: We arrived late (10pm) on a weekday and, although Josee works in the morning at a separate job, she was up to greet us, make sure we got settled, answer any questions we had, and (at our request) make suggestions for places to see and things to do during our stay. I don't think I can do the breakfasts justice so I've included pictures of some of them below. I started to look forward each night to breakfast - which was served at whatever time we wanted, she checked everyday to accommodate our schedules - and was always preempted by a delicious espresso/cappuccino. Property/Accommodations: The property is absolutely stunning. The entrance is protected by an automatic gate which winds its way beautifully through the trees up a gravel driveway to a large porch/parking area. The house is very elegant and sits atop a hill that overlooks Lake Massawippi and two ponds on the property. To get to the guest suites, we walked down a nice stone patio that wraps around the house to a sitting area (our favorite place for breakfast in the morning!) which has the best view on the property -- you can see both ponds below and the lake in the distance. The suite contains two separate suites with a shared kitchen/living room. The kitchen and living area is huge - the kitchen has top-of-the-line appliances and is well equipped while the living room has several nice couches, a dining room table for eating breakfast that seats 4-6 people, and a desk for working. We stayed in the guest suite (on the west side of the building) which had it's own furniture and plenty of room. The bathroom was great with an amazing shower that had both a rainforest shower head and a handheld/regular shower head that operate at the same time. It really was great. We were very busy so didn't get to take full advantage of the on-grounds amenities but on the last day we did get to spend some time floating around on two of the reclining floating lounge chairs and enjoy the weather. All in all, it was a great experience and will look to stay here when we return, even if other places are less expensive.

Reservations are required for the Restaurant with specific days and times as to when it is open. Apparently the menu changes week by week but a few mainstay courses seem to remain. Service is excellent and attentive. By all accounts each main course is prepared to order. Bring your own wine feature adds to this been a relatively inexpensive gourmet treat. No pictures as we were so focussed and distracted by the appetizing and perfectly presented food. This is a must visit place to go if in the area.

So I booked a night to stay over on our way to Charlevoix. The Good: certainly that breakfast earns its reputation. It's conventional but really good, as is the coffee. Service in the cafe also quite good. The Bad: bedbugs. Found in the bedsheets. I get the feeling the staff knows they have a problem because when we brought it up they were indifferent to it. Did not make for a good nights sleep. The Other: scenery around the hotel is pretty nice, quiet and peaceful. Parking is street parking.

We purchased milk chocolate marshmallow treat that we devoured right there on the spot. The atmosphere was charming and the service delightful. Felix was the name of the young man at the shop who provided a history of the area. They also have a restaurant and accommodations at this family owned business. As a matter of…read morefact, I am surprised that with the truly outstanding ratings in competing review sites, there were no reviews for this venue in Yelp. So hopefully there will be one. We planned a ski trip to the Eastern Townships in Quebec, where there are several hidden gems in the world of skiing. We decided to visit two, Orford and Bromont, all on the western side of Lake Memphremagog. As we like B&Bs instead of hotels in order to savor local culture, we looked at several travel sites and came up with Le Coq du Bonheur in the town of Magog, at the Northern edge of the sprawling lake. Le Coq du Bonheur is a four-bed home located three short blocks from the restaurant and shopping district in Magog and in addition, two blocks from the lake shore and boat docks. It's uniquely located as close as you'd want to the tourist and entertainment district and still be able to have a good night sleep. The guest rooms are upstairs, each with private bath, excellent mattresses, and attractive furnishings. During the summer, the venue has a swimming pool too. Downstairs, a large living room with a beautiful antique jukebox compliment the attractive room. Magog is a bicyclist, hiker and nature lovers' summer paradise and it is obvious the owners gear their efforts by outwardly welcoming cyclists. The B&B also has a solarium/veranda where they invite guests to partake of their sumptuous breakfasts. Anyone looking to have a B&B should look up Louise and Richard, the innkeepers, to learn how to run a B&B in a truly exemplary manner. Every detail was cared for and we got an amazing night's sleep. The next morning, we enjoyed one amazing sit-down breakfast, featuring a double French Toast with bacon and cheese topped with fruit and maple syrup. The selections also included juice, fresh fruit, a smoothie, and an amazing breakfast chocolate dessert. Wow. A unique location in the midst of some of the most quaint and beautiful areas in North America.
