The food was good, and the prices were reasonable. The server was very nice, but did not speak French or English. This was not an issue as we all made it through the ordering process. Although really surprised as we were in the middle of a touristy area. The standout dish were the noodles. OMG, they were very good. The remaining dishes were good but typical taste for this type of food. Glad we happened by this place. It was nice.

If it's your first time, service can be a little confusing and perhaps even seem rude. Don't take it personally though. The staff are prob just used to ppl coming in knowing the deal and what it's all about. Anywho, for 12€ at dinner (even cheaper at noon), you get 2 spring rolls, unlimited grilled Chinese dumplings (you can choose what kind or an assortment), 2 Chinese galettes, and a delicious bowl of noodles/soup of your choosing. I am a dumplings kind of girl and originally was going to pass on the noodles, but I'm super glad that I didn't cuz they were honestly super super delicious! Better than ones I've had in specialty noodles places. I went with the pork ones btw. The 2 veggie spring rolls were required (can't opt out), and obv they're in there to fill you up a bit. The dumplings were ok, not the best ever but aight. The galettes were also just ok - we asked for an assortment (as with the dumplings) but it was kind of hard telling the different fillings apart. The pork noodles were the standout for me. Wash it all down with a large Tsingtao beer. The dishes may all come out in a super random order, whichever was ready first so sometimes the servers can be a little confused as to who's had what already. They really get you in and out of here quickly but that's not really a problem. You come here to fill your belly!

A fine comfort food Chinese restaurant in Paris…read more * * * Why would any American go to Paris and intentionally get Chinese food? * * * 1) The tourist places that create an "authentic" French cafe that looks like the cafes of Jean Paul Sartre's era are often complete rip-offs. * * * 2) Paris is a globalized city. That is just a fact. In New York City, everyone eats Chinese or Ethiopian or Japanese or Mexican. In New York City, some people even eat French. Nobody in New York says, "Hey, New York City is in America. We need to be eating hot dogs and hamburgers." Paris is lived in from people all over the world. Regardless of where they were born, Parisians want pleasures from all over the world. Parisian standards in food are high. So their "food from all over the world" tends to be pretty good. * * * 3) Just because food is globalized does not mean that food is standardized. Every country, every city and for that matter, every cook, takes international dishes and does something to make it fit their own taste and the tastes of the people in the host nation. Mexican food in Paris can be a riot. Some places serve nachos as elegant perfect equilateral triangles with a perfect inner equilateral triangle of refried beans and a perfect circle of a jalapeno slice in the middle. You could take those triangles and show them in a museum. Nachos in Texas or Mexico don't look like that. Parisian cooks have their own takes on the Chinese standards as well. The good ones make marvelous Chinese food. The bad ones not so much. * * * Le Lys d'Or has wonderful cooks. I believe the entrepreneurial family behind Le Lys d'Or is Vietnamese. That already puts them at the fusion of Chinese and French. Le Lys d'Or is a long standing institution in the XIIe arrondisement. It is generally crowded - with locals rather than tourists. * * * The crowd is right. The food is fine. * * * My wife will vouch for their steamed fish, which has all sorts of hidden flavors suggesting something aromatic and good was in the steaming water. I will vouch for their imperial rolls (here served on rice with chicken and vegetables) which have a much better fry job than do the imperial rolls I get in Texas. Texas has a lot of Vietnamese immigrants and first rate Vietnamese restaurants. So I am used to getting fine imperial rolls. The rolls at Le Lys D'Or are much better than the ones I get at home. * * * If you were to skip the banana beignets for dessert, You would not be missing much. * * * And the nicest part of all, Is that as you are sitting eating perfectly wonderful Chinese food, Outside your window, It is Paris. The décor is very nice and the menu offers an extensive choice of dishes. My friends liked the dim sum and the Chinese noodles. I didn't like at all my pad thai because the sauce was quite different from the one served in a traditional Thai restaurant. The rice pudding had tapioca and was very very sweet. There was not enough chocolate sauce on the banana dumplings.

While ooohing and aaahing over our various dishes we suddenly realized that not only was the food great, but that the decor was phenomenal too in that over-the-top-late-70s-way with its wood-paneling, bronze ceiling sculptures and metal murals intertwined with giant fish tanks. Not only that, the service was fantastic, especially the waitress who kept cooing at our kid in Chinese. We'll definitely be back for more of all of the above.
