I journeyed to Au Bec Fin after reading about it in the New York Times article, "A Brie Binge East of Paris", from October 30, 2014.
It was an extremely quaint, nicely appointed, classic French country restaurant. The lunch menu is fixed: You can do appetizer-plus-main, main-plus-dessert, or all 3. Prices were extremely reasonable - It was under 20 euros for the full menu.
For our day, the choices were a salad or butternut squash soup, pan-seared chicken or braised lamb with potatoes and carrots, then for dessert, apple pie or a cheese course. All the preparations were extremely traditional. For us, chicken was a bit undercooked and the lamb was "like mom used to make", but they were nice.
Being in cheese country, I definitely enjoyed the cheese course afterwards, which featured three cheeses: Coulommiers (not sure which one), Brie de Saint Simeon, and Comté (also not sure which one). The Saint Simeon was amazingly creamy and delicous. The Comté was also delectable.
I would recommend visiting this place if you're in the area. read more
