After waiting for weeks for an appointment, two hours in the waiting room, I was given 5 minutes of face time with the Dr. who answered a couple questions and then stormed off to write me a $2,700 prescription that my insurance would not cover. This was my first visit at this location, and my first check-up since 2018. (Oops!) Upon my arrival, the receptionist checked all of my information, then asked me to fill out all my information on another page. Why duplicate work...? I didn't wait too terribly long to be called back. The assistant never introduced herself but got a pretty good medical history & began the process of my evaluation. After numbing drops, dilating drops, and the glaucoma test, I was directed to the exam room...where I sat, and sat, and sat, with the door open, and all of the staff chattering & laughing about former colleagues and whether or not they indulge in alcoholic beverages after a long week (or daily). Dr. Kreiger was nice enough, did the exam, told me my vision hadn't changed much, and put more numbing drops in my eyes before conducting the final test. I asked if they had dilating reversal drops and was supposed to be assured that it "wouldn't last long" and they "used the least amount of medicine possible". The numbing drops made my eyes feel fatigued & the dilation lasted for hours. (Now, the morning after, I've got a screaming headache, but it could be the change in weather, not necessarily all the work my eyes did yesterday, trying to return to normal...) I'll be interested to see how my kids fare at this location after the holidays... read more

Great experience. I went for an annual exam at my regular optometrist and he saw something that concerned him so he said before he'd write me a new prescription he wanted me to see a specialist. I was given a list of providers and Atwal was the one I was most familiar with because of their commercials. I called the Harlem Rd. location and the first person I spoke with was Liz. She was so friendly and really gave me a good feeling about what was to come. Just a vibe I got. I was given an appointment within a few days which was nice. I was afraid it wouldn't be for weeks or even months. You never know with medical appointments. When I came in the front desk receptionists were on the same level as Liz, customer service-wise. Super friendly and one of the women came out to sit with an elderly patient who was a little confused over some paperwork. It was so sweet to see her sit there and fill out the forms for the elder. Talk about going above and beyond. The exam was just as good. The doctor was thorough and took his time with me which I appreciated. I'd go back for sure. read more

Awful experience with Dr. Atwal. Scheduled to get Lasik, and the staff were great, but I actually cancelled the surgery (while on the operating table) because of his lack of bedside manors. Rude. Yelling. Egotistical. They'd put the numbing drops in my eyes (so I couldn't see) then told me to lean back and bring my chin higher. I couldn't physically bring my chin higher so he suggested I move my hair. When I reached back to move my hair he began yelling, "what are you doing? don't touch anything" when he'd just asked me to move my hair. When I told him that I didn't like how he spoke to (yelled at) me and that he needed to calm down, he said, "Nobody tells me what to do. This is my world". He was preparing to cut my eye with a laser. It was a very stressful environment, and I felt uncomfortable so I cancelled it right there. I would not suggest anyone go see him. read more

Great experience I have been to see the doctors at Atwal eye care for the same bug I recently started to feel. what is considered a sty , an annoying red bump that either hides under the eye lid, or hangs over the lid, quite painful, and for a woman in their early 50s , I'm sure you know that it may appear to be just a sty, but for me it felt like more than just a sty. I came here last May to get a dilated eye exam. The ophthalmologist is Doctor Braich. My MRI from DENT showed that I have prominence of the optic nerve sheaths. Had the test. Optic nerves looks fine. Great! Wants me to take a field eye exam to look deeper. Go back in a couple months. Take the test. Said I failed it. Ok fine. Go back in a couple more months. Take the test. I pass it. Wants me to come in for another field eye exam in a few months. Getting frustrating at this point. Come in again. Take the test. I pass it again. Says he wants me to take the test again in six months. At this point I'm getting ticked off. I didn't get a good vibe from him from the get go. He even told me that my issues is not related to his profession. Why on earth does he want me to take the same test over and over if I keep passing it???? I DO NOT recommend this establishment. I can't say enough good things about Atwal! I first went for a check up as I had a floater and was worried about my retinas. Dr. Cochrane did a retinal exam- luckily I was fine. I asked about vision correction as I have terrible vision, pretty much blind without glasses or contacts. They scheduled me right away for LASIK consultation. I was not a candidate due to my prescription but I did qualify for EVO ICL. I had the procedure done a couple weeks ago and it's been life changing! I'm now at 20/20. My surgeon, Dr. J, has been amazing and attended my aftercare appointments himself. The front desk is also full of amazing and compassionate people- love to talk to them when I come in for my appointments. I highly recommend Atwal for all your vision needs! read more

Harlem Office: The front desk staff is completely unprofessional and rude. When asked (after my appointment was a half hour late) if they knew how much longer they thought it might be before seeing the Dr. The receptionist rudely said with attitude the Drs. are doing the best they can and they had no idea when I would be seen. I never thought they weren't doing their best! The first hour and half after taking me in a room I didn't see the Dr. because they run tests so the Drs had nothing to do with that part. In between several tests there was also a long waiting period, so long that I opened my door because I thought they had forgotten me. Second thing was after using the restroom I went to the desk to let them know that they are almost out of toilet paper. Thought that was being nice because people will use hand towels after that. But instead she said she doesn't handle that and doesn't know who does...maybe a janitor! I said I wouldn't know and that I was just giving her a heads up. She can do whatever she wanted with that information. I was pretty much done with the front desk by then. Don't think they will care if they read this. I feel because they are so big and handle so many they just go through the process like robots. One star is for the front desk. 3 stars is for how long I waited before and in between and 5 stars is for the professional team in the back. read more

Atwal did my Lasik a few years ago and it was good for about 2 years. Now my vision is blurry. I went for a checkup last year and they told me the lasik was "holding up well" (?). Okay... The Dr. did say I have cataracts but they won't do anything about them. Called today (07/20/22) and was told I would have to go to East Amherst or (somewhere) on Abbott Road because it was not a "medical emergency". The person I spoke with on the phone sounded bored and like she couldn't care less. I won't be going back to Atwal. read more

While I did go here to have my cataracts done I was very disappointed in the follow up services, The place does so many of these procedures it appears the staff is nothing more then a bunch of robots. I complained on every follow up visit of blurred vision and each time I was ignored. No one seems to listen or care. It's obvious that the staff is seeing so many patients that there not listening anymore to their patients. I even took the time to email them and tell them of my disappointment and after waiting for more then two months without a reply I have finally given up on them. My advice,, seek another more caring faculty before choosing this one. read more

A few weeks back I decided to get my eyes fixed with LASIK eye surgery because I was super blind and couldn't deal with contacts anymore. I called on a Friday and was able to get in the following Friday for a consultation. The following Thursday I had the procedure. That was yesterday! I'm sitting here typing this on my iPhone with my new science made eyes and these guys were wonderful. They kept me informed about the risks and the procedure itself. It didn't feel like they were trying to sell me something - it really made feel like they cared about my vision. They had coffee/tea/snacks in the waiting room for the patients. I had a great experience with this Dr's office and highly recommend them for this procedure - they took great care of me. read more

My wife and I had our annual eye exam the Atwell French Rd location, we experienced a hostel atmosphere, it was obvious that the doctor didn't want to be there, he was very hurried, (actually had to ask him to slow down) didn't want to answer questions or discuss anything. This place is a mill, get em in and out. We really question weather our prescriptions are correct as the exam was rushed so much. The office was not crowded, we had an appointment and were the only ones in the office. Not a friendly place none of the staff seemed like they wanted to be there. read more

The wait times are unacceptable. My husband surgery was scheduled for 9am. At 11am we were still sitting in the waiting room. The waiting room also has an obnoxious odor making waiting just that much more uncomfortable. Atwal Eyecare ruined my vision. I had been having trouble with contacts - itchy burning etc- wanted to look into Lasic to avoid contacts in my eyes. Didn't realize that what I had was DRY eye. Atwal didn't check for DRY eye in appointment to see if I was Lasic candidate. Apparently this sort of check is not done to see if you are a candidate. I Told them about reasons driving me to want to stop contacts. Burning etc. Didn't matter to them to thoroughly check. !!Did surgery.!! Made DRY eye horribly worse. Vision has never been the same. Eyes are itchy, watery, gummy, and burn. They tried to right the wrong but wouldn't take responsibility for operating on an eye that was already in bad shape. Male Dr that does all the checks and rechecks has Awful bedside manner. Not friendly not caring. I am now wearing glasses. Thousands of dollars spent - to have to buy glasses to see properly. read more

Be sure before you book appointment. One of my parents had the surgery by Dr. Atwal in February and still has foggy vision in eye. Went back numerous times. Was taken to numerous rooms, given more eye tests, billed extra for these, and then just given eye drops. No one really seems to care. I then took the records to another doctor and was told by the new doctor, that according to the patients records, that there was a problem with the retina and surgery should never have been done in the first place. They still want my parent to have to other eye done! heck no, not there. Plus Dr. Atwal told us himself that the sac holding the retina was detached and the cataract slipped down, which he then had to retrieve. hmmm again, nothing in the patients records on this. seek elsewhere read more

Way over priced rude staff!! I had something in my eye went in filled out the paper work they brought me in sat me in a chair looked in my eye and got the particle out I was in the chair for less than 5 minutes and was charge $170 dollars. I received a bill for $92 which I paid as soon as I got the bill. I then kept receiving the same bill along with a letter that it was going to collections. I called to tell them I already paid the staff had no record of me paying and put me on hold for 10 minutes they eventually found the paperwork that I paid and continued to tell me I still owed $75 when my bill I received only said $92 not $170. The staff was rude on the phone and said there was nothing they could do. Don't go to this place!! Their lasik is also way more expensive than any other place around. My girlfriend had the procedure done for less than half of the cost somewhere else! read more

After having an eye twitch for over three months, I finally decided to make an appointment to see an eye doctor at Atwal since I had my lasik there. I waited for a half hour to see the doctor for him to read me what Wikipedia had to say!!! Then I got an $80 bill in the mail. Anyone can change anything on Wikipedia, it is not a reliable source. I was completely dumbfounded as he was reading to me with no clear diagnosis or anything I can do to help make this problem stop. I called the billing department and spoke to a miserable woman who did not want to hear anything I had to say and was completely unapologetic. I will no longer continue my business at Atwal, refer anyone there and do not have anything nice to stay in regards. read more

I started coming here in 2015 for routine eye care and they have a great staff. I have never waited more than 10 minutes after arriving and everyone is very efficient at what they do. Now, with everyone being very efficient, don't take that as not wanting to spend time with you. The staff takes the time to get to know you, your concerns, and partner with you on any appropriate treatment that may be needed. Another benefit is the ability to schedule appointments and review your charts online. Charts from appointments are updated within 24 hours of the visit. I'm glad I switched my previous provider to Atwal. They've done a great job and I continue to be satisfied with them. read more

I must say that they fixed my eyes perfectly. All staff are very professional, especially Dr. Atwal. However, when it comes to charging the fees - BE CAREFUL, VERY CAREFUL on what they quote for your surgery. I was quoted $3,200 per eye for a total of $6,400. From this, $4,400 was paid to Atwal Eye Care and $2,000 to Buffalo Ambulatory Service. Then I started getting more bills from them. These are co-insurance charges. The quote I was given was $6,400. Where are these additional $900 co-insurance charges coming from. They should have told me initially that their cost is $8,400 from which $2,000 will be charged to insurance. Also note - when they say free consultation - wrong. They charge your insurance company $125 per doctor you see. The only time you find out is when you get the statement from them for the co-insurance portion they want to collect. That is 2 months later. read more

I was called the other day to confirm my appointment and I arrived before the appointment time. When I checked in with the receptionist, I was asked to sign a waiver that I would pay a no-show fee for any future missed an appointments. When I got called into the doctor's office, the nurse/associate looked at my chart and wondered why I was there. I thought I was getting a full eye exam. She said that because I saw the doctor a month ago for problems I was experiencing from my cataract/multi-focal lense surgery ($10,000 is approximate cost of the procedure), the doctor wasn't going to see me for 6 months. I asked if I could be reimbursed for my time since they called ME and confirmed my appointment. I drove from Silver Creek to their Cheektowaga office and that cost me 2 hours of work plus gas for nothing. They laughed when I asked if I could charge them the same fee. I feel that if it is good for them to charge a no-show fee it should be good for me to do the same. This how I ended up at Atwell: WNY Lasik did a thorough exam when I was looking into Lasik surgery and found cataracts. They even took my blood pressure at the exam. They don't do cataract surgery so they gave me referrals - I should've went to one of their referrals. At Atwell they never took my blood pressure at any point while under their care.. I was definitely treated like a piece of meat on an assembly line at their place. I did go back because I have blurry vision. I would suggest another practice. I don't ever want to be seen by Dr. A Cochrane again!!!!! He was so rude and short and didn't listen my concerns. I had been experiencing pain, redness and burning in my left eye. All he said was I don't see anything, and when I questioned him about my contact lenses. His response was I don't handle that (he is a Dr?) My biggest problem was when he inserted eye drops, he acted as if he was afraid to touch me and the solution ran down my face. I ended making an appointment with Orchard Park location and was seen by Dr. Mendola. She examined me and prescribed me anti-inflammatory medications and within days my issue was resolved. read more
