I waited just over 2 hours...2 whole hours. I had an appt. I arrived ON TIME, and yet i waited 2 hours! I was able to watch a whole full length movie on their projector screen while waiting. I was in disbelief that a business would be so disrespectful to their NEW client. I actually ended up leaving. I couldn't take it anymore. The owner MUST make some changes if she wants to retain clients. I also noticed some MAJOR haircare no no's that would make me never come back. It hurts my heart to write this because i believe in small businesses. However, even small businesses are expected to be timely and accomodating to their clients. In fact I took that to heart so much that Dancing Shears did the hair and makeup for my two wedding ceremonies. (Including traveling out of state for one of them). Elana, the owner, created a package that met my needs and budget. Her and the team went above and beyond on my wedding day and second wedding ceremony. We did a comprehensive trial to make sure that I looked and felt beautiful. She even gave me the best pep talks before both wedding ceremonies to make sure I could get out there. Not only does she do a great job with hair and makeup, she also cares deeply about each customer she works with. This includes listening and asking about life updates while in the chair doing hair, giving me educational information on how to take care of my hair and skin, and even product recommendations. I've never taken care of my hair so well until going here with Dancing Shears. Wendy was kind enough to take me in as a walk-in on a busy Saturday, and this was after explaining over the phone at length the different options I had regarding the look I was going for. Wendy created a fantastic new look for me (I opted for sew-in skip tracks in a long bob) and EVERYONE has given me compliment after compliment on the new 'do. I suppose this is my own fault for ignoring my instincts the moment I saw the stylist (Maria) and her general lack of professional appearance. The ridiculous eyelashes and ridiculous hair should have been a tip off, but I went against my better judgement. To start with, the "beauty salon" if you could really call it that, is inside this jail cell looking building, not exactly aesthetically pleasing to a new client. Upon entering there are two doors, one to another persons business's and one for Taj. Let's be clear here, there is NO indication for which is which AND the door is locked...great for business? I finally get in, there is already a person being serviced, which is fine, whatever, when I finally get into the chair, she begins I relax my hair... What's wrong with this... I was specifically told to wash my hair before the appointment, which is exactly not what your supposed to do before a relaxer. The rest of the appointment is painful and I'm not taking physically. After sitting in that disgusting salon for four hours, I was able to get a nice look around and what I saw was just plain nasty. Lots and lots of hair, just around, on the floor every where, like he shop had never seen a broom! Also I noticed dirt and grime buildup along the sinks and by the styling tables. Gross. Concluding the appointment, come the unveiling to the worst hair weave I have seen in a long time, it obviously looked like a weave, and a bad one at that. The way I would and my friends would describe it as would be, it looked like a hair helmet. Awful. On top of that, it was my birthday and I had to go out looking like that. It was so awful I took it out MYSELF that very night. This was an incredibly disappointing salon visit, especially since I had heard great things from this owner Wendy, about her stylist and her "undetectable" weaves, of that's true, then anyone who goes here, be prepared to consider yourself a victim of fraud. Not only was Maria's work shoddy, but she was not exactly personable, I felt that I was inconveniencing her. Just rude. After all was said and done, I still tipped twenty percent. Moral of the story, don't waste your money to become victim to unprofessionalism and bad styling, pay a little more and go to NY, clearly the only place to get your hair done properly.

The previous reviewers must have thin skin or something because I had a wonderful expierence with my starter locs and will definitely be going back to her for regular maintenance. It is just her at the shop so it is a very personal expierence to start. The atmosphere is wonderful and she is super knowledgeable about hair. If you want a stylist all up in your face telling you what you want to hear just to take your money at the expense of your hair then she is not for you. Extremely rude and unprofessional…read more I called the number provided in order to try to speak about an engagement for services. Having called once without response, I was sent to a voicemail that had no identifying information or greeting of any kind. Not wanting my message to fall into some unlabeled oblivion, but also figuring that the shop was probably just busy on a Saturday morning, I called back hoping to speak to someone. To my delight, the phone was answered! However my delight quickly turned to dismay when the person on the other end (who I pray is not the establishment's owner) responded with a gruff "Yes?" -- no greeting, no "How can I help you?", straight attitude. Wary but trying to accommodate, thinking that perhaps this person had their hands in someone's head but no one else to help them answer the phone and so they were a bit strained, I stated that I was calling to speak about potential service, but if this was an inconvenient time I could call back at a predetermined, more convenient one. The response to this olive branch: "Go ahead." And this was no re-assuring "go ahead", this was straight, uncalled-for attitude. When I hesitated, taken aback by what seemed almost like naked aggression, I was rewarded with an impatient, "Talk, talk." Needless to say, after this encounter I was not eager to put either my hair or my money in the clutches of such a rude, lackluster outfit. I promptly thanked whomever was on the other end and hung up. The whole situation is very sad, because perhaps the salon does great hair, and I would love their service, but I will never even set foot in the door because of this initial meeting. Customer service is key from start to finish; don't lose business before you've even had a chance to earn it!
