Atomic Koi Cocktail Lounge in Fitchburg, WI has potential to improve if they had the right staff! I have gone there on more than one occasion where their bartenders were rude, unprofessional, and ruined the overall experience. My husband still loves coming to Atomic Koi Cocktail Lounge because it's a laid back lounge away from the rowdier young local college students bar atmosphere that's still vibrant with an eclectic vibe with illuminated fish tanks and a fun cozy ambiance. The crowd is mostly young working professionals near the area mid 20s-30s on up that are looking to unwind and have fun with their family/friends. Atomic Koi is a fun lounge that has games like a giant Connect Four, a pool table, shuffle board, and darts. They also have a good diverse cocktail menu that has something satisfying for everyone from martinis, tropical drinks, mojitos, beer, and more. Recently, my husband suggested the Atomic Koi to show our friends and family from out of town a good time in the Madison area. I ordered a cocktail and the bartender claimed they didn't have the ingredients to make the drink which didn't bother me but I have gone to Atomic Koi more than once trying to order a cocktail on their menu and the bartenders claimed they were unable to make it or didn't have the ingredients or maybe they just didn't feel like making it like some of their ice cream drinks and it wasn't busy in the moment. I then ordered the Golden Colada which is a fun pineapple tropical flavored drink! If they are unable to make a specific drink but the drink is advertised on their menu they should be able to make it consistently if requested otherwise take it off the cocktail menu permanently because patrons expect to be able to order a specific drink if its on the menu. My husband, friends, and family were having a good time. A back corner nook opened up where some people left and we wanted to sit there as a group however there was super sticky drinks on the floor under the table nook. One of my family members asked one of the bartenders if she could please mop up the sticky floor or find another staff that could. The bartender was super rude to my family member and said she wasn't going to mop it up until closing time at 1am. Then my family member asked if she would at least get someone to pull the mop out from the back and he would mop it up himself and she refused. She should have politely told my family member "sorry I am unable to leave the bar area but I will find another staff to mop it up when they are able to" but it was her rude don't care entitled attitude which didn't leave a good impression on my family members from out of town. I went back up to the bar and spoke to a different bartender who wasn't busy tending the bar and told him the situation. He did fix the situation and mopped up the sticky floor when he was able to which I appreciated but he looked over it like he didn't really want to be there not really friendly. If Atomic Koi could consistently recruit/ retain more professional, trained, personable, friendly bartenders and actually follow through in making cocktails actually advertised in their cocktail menu , its a great spot to go to for a great drink and a fun place to unwind! read more

I'll say first that the drinks were good here and should get five stars. They had a huge menu for fun cocktails. However, the vibe here was not comfortable and that's a huge part of a bar experience in my view. The booth we sat in was ackward height and the lighting was terrible inside. The sun was blasting in on one end and the other end was pitch black so it was just hard to see. I also couldn't tell what the decor and theme was supposed to be. One plus is that they did have a cute indoor electric fire which would be nice to sit by in cozy season. I would go back in the summer to sit on the outdoor patio and try an alcoholic ice cream drink! I do also wish they had food options... even just apps or to partner with a restaurant nearby to have their menu available for delivery to the bar. They have very unique drinks as it is connected to the chocolate shop ice cream, and they also have special martinis, Long Island's, and shots as well. We had the café mocha which emulates an espresso, martini, and a Californian, iced tea, which essentially replaces the sour and Coke with orange juice. I thought the Californian was a bit sweet as there was a lot of orange juice added, and the café mocha espresso martini was pretty strong. They also have pool and shuffleboard for $1.50, but that is only cash. They do have an ATM. We went on a Saturday around 7 PM so understandably it was not very busy. It was very unique so if you're looking for something out of your Norm, check it out. read more

Atomic Koi is a super fun cocktail lounge with retro decor. The walls have fun, bright, designs all over them. They also have fish tanks, disco balls, and a projector that plays old school movies. The whole cocktail lounge really reminds me of an Austin Powers movie cover. They also have a nice outdoor patio if you're not looking for retro flair. It had umbrellas, string lights, and is in a nice location. They have all kinds of beers, cocktails, and wines to choose from. Most people come for the cocktails since it is a cocktail lounge. I've had several different cocktails, they've all been pretty good. They have so many types of cocktails to choose from; mojitos, martinis, long islands, tropical drinks, shots, ice cream drinks, and more! With things opening up again, we finally made it to the Atomic Koi, a few steps from our apartment. They have a really cool menu of unique drinks and cocktails. I had the "Sea Foam" which was sweet and refreshing. We also had cherry bomb shots (or doubles?) which were a fun way to start the night. The bartender, Adam, was fun and shared our salty humor it seemed. This place is the most unique nightlife spot in Fitchburg, bar none! The intimate atmosphere is the perfect place to grab a table in the back with some friends and chat the night away, sipping on one of their many unique cocktails. With names like Monkey in Space and Pixie Stick martini, you are sure to find something that tickles your fancy at Atomic Koi. Located right next to Roman Candle pizza, there is plenty of parking. I personally love that it is situated right near my neighborhood, so I could even walk there if I wanted to. Bartenders area great, makes strong drinks. Their martinis are all $7 and delicious. Mojitos are $6. Lots of craft beers and beers on tap. Cool atmosphere and modern furniture. I'd definitely recommend the lychee mojito and Milky Way martini. read more

Such a great intimate atmosphere. The bar is located in a small plaza right next to a pizzeria. Decent parking lot space. I've been a few times on both a Friday and Saturday night and it's never too crowded. There is one pool table and one shuffleboard game. My only issue is that if both games are being used there isn't enough space to play pool with out poking someone in the eye or butt when it's crowded. Several booth seating, bar seating, two private VIP lounges. Another seating area that is sometimes used for the DJ equipment. Outdoor seating. This place may look small, but it's definitely capable of accommodating a good amount of people. The decor in the lounges are awesome. I was expecting to see more "Koi", but it's one medium size fish tank. The bartenders are super friendly. There is an assortment of drinks on their menu and I can vouch that the drink quality is excellent! You can use a few bucks to load a list of your favorite jams on the digital jukebox. Deck of cards and board games are available in the back seating area. Overall, I really like this gem of a place. This seems to often be a late 20's, 30's and up crowd. I really liked this place! I guess I'm a little surprised as I've known about it for years but never thought it would be a place I'd like to frequent. I mean, it's basically attached to a pizza place. Except, I now realize, not really...it's more that they share a hallway/common area. Lots of inventive drinks and decent prices for the quality. The bar is nice and dark with great ambient lighting. The young guy bartending was friendly and knowledgable when my husband asked him about some of the whiskey selections. This is most definitely a place that my husband and I will be adding to Fitchburg area date nights. Great for a pre or post dinner drink! The reason I give 4 stars is I wasn't thrilled with the music being played. It's a juke box so I guess you're at the mercy of whoever last picked the selections. Made it to the Koi 2x. Has a funky hip look to the bar. Both nights 5-8PM there was only one bartender on staff and we had to wait a bit for our drinks (not that big of deal). They have several TV's and one projection light box. The feeds to the TV's look like they are showing a VHS tape. TV's are typically showing movies and there are plenty of booths to sit in that look like they were made by hot rod guy (cool in my book) They offer a pool table, old school shuffleboard, and a sit down Ms. PacMan machine. They also have a handful of board games to take back to your table. They are putting in 2 patios which should be available by mid June. I agree this place isn't at all douchey or trashy. It's clearly a sister of the Jade Monkey and the Star Bar. Despite the Yelp tips saying the Atomic Koi isn't good for dancing there is a clown with a poor perception of personal space dancing. He's both mildly annoying and entertaining at the same time. Music selection is eclectic - I dig it... Ray Charles is currently playing. Bad News Bears is playing on one of the big TVs (sound off). Check this place out... It's probably Fitchburg's only interesting or worthwhile option for evening entertainment. So if you are in the neighborhood, check this place out. read more

Love coming here on a Saturday night. It's a great almost unknown place in my opinion. I typically order either a cranberry vodka or Long Island ice tea. Both are made as I like them to me. My too strong but just enough to where I can talk surely taste the booze. The ambience is great. You get the feel you're at a middle scale bar. They have a great patio for summer nights that I would take full advantage of when the stars are out. Creates a very intimate feel in many ways. Inside, they have a few flat screen TV's where some movie is always playing. Last one I went, it was Rocky II. My favorite bar in Fitchburg to hang out with friends. It's our go-to to end the night. They have specials for (almost?) every day of the week, board/card games in the back, darts and shuffleboard, illuminated fish tanks, comfy seating in the back, and a patio. They even had MARIO KART 64 one day last summer!! Same extensive drink menu as Hawk's (downtown) -- there's something for everyone here. For being a cocktail lounge, the execution for even their own menu is lacking. I ordered a caipirinha and it came out bland and alcoholic. Bartender was lackadaisical and paid no attention until he finished the current drink he was making. Solid 4 Star. I've been here a few times and enjoyed my time here. Although it is a very eclectic crowd, have a martini or frozen drink and let loose. The only odd thing I find about this place is there is no true theme. The "Atomic Koi" has nothing to do with Asian food or drinks; there is a shuffle board and pool table adjoining the bar and game room. The drink menu can be a little overwhelming and the bar tenders seemed overworked with making specialty drinks. I am just waiting for the day this bar closes down because it really needs to. Lets just say that absolutely nothing about the Atomic Koi is a positive in my mind including their rude and terrible bartenders, the crappy 80's movies they have on the TV's, the atmosphere that is as ugly as the blue Christmas lights on the patio, and the lack of people. I was told not to write this review since we live in the area but sorry....I am not going there anymore so I am going to have at it. Last night we went to Atomic Koi for some drinks as we have many times before. The 4 of us were literally the only people there. The bartender, who was new since I have never seen him there before, was a asshole specifically to me. I wish I could say that this was an isolated incident but each time I have been there the bartenders are pricks. So, Atomic Koi and your overpriced drinks....so long because my business is gone. Please somebody buy this place and turn it into a Sports Bar or something worth going to. Obviously the rest of Fitchburg feels the same way since I never see anyone there. read more

I've been to the Koi several times, and the Jade Monkey (its east side sister) a gazillion more. The drink menu is awesome and the service has always been great. I'm fond of their martinis, perhaps a little too fond if-you-know-what-I-mean. Even though the Koi is really close to where I work, it's not close to where I live, which makes it hard to be a real regular. The upholstery work in the bar, actually both bars, is phenomenal, and the decor is clean and crisp, if a little cold. This is a good addition to the area, and I appreciate the fact that no one rolls their eyes as I plow through the little dish of snack mix at happy hour. This place is as kitschy and classic as everyone says. I met up with 2 girlfriends to have drinks and chat. We sat on the patio because it was so nice outside. There's no service on the patio and we had to wait a bit to get drinks, but we weren't in a rush. Definitely a place full of regulars. The bartender was very nice and the drinks were fantastic! We all started with a mojito: one raspberry, one mango, and one elderflower. Each was delicious. The patio is small but the interior seems to have a ton of seating. Smoking is allowed on the patio so take note if that bothers you. After about an hour we went back to get a second drink and were served very promptly. The place had cleared out a bit by this point. They do play movies - Castaway was on while we were there. And the music was a bit eclectic, but not too loud or distracting. Overall I'd say it's a great place to stop and have a drink! read more

Went here for the first time last night. It is definately a welcome addition to the area! It was busy but not packed, and there were 4 bartenders on, ensuring prompt service every time. The people working are definately not the most knowledgable (I know, I know, the place is still new) but they are extremely friendly and went out of their way to make sure that every drink tasted a-ok! I got mai-tai's the whole night(took me back to South Beach!) and they were very good. The others in my group enjoyed basic mixed drinks and tasty martinis. The place had great music on and a fun movie in the background to look at. Maybe they could get some more seating though, because last night wasn't too busy and it was still difficult to snag a spot! read more

The bartenders here are great! They are fast, friendly, and actually know how to make drinks! Excellent REAL long islands and mojitos. By REAL, I mean the bartenders make them instead of using premixed bottles. Great drinks at a much more reasonable price than you would pay down town. I love the shuffleboard! The Koi is a great neighborhood bar. Always has friendly and entertaining bartenders and you can't beat prices at happy hour. I came here for my birthday and the bartender gave me 2 free drink coupons for next time. It's a great weeknight hangout. They have a pool table and shuffleboard and an arcade machine where you can play classics like pacman. They also have a great deck to enjoy the night air. On the inside there are several aquariums and a few tvs that are usually showing movies. They don't have food, but when the Roman Candle is open next door you can order there and Roman Candle will walk it over to you for no charge. They have a few beers on tap but make a pretty good specialty cocktail. They have several martinis (discounted during happy hour) and make a mean moscow mule. read more

The atmosphere here is super-kitschy and kind of neat (including cheesy old movies--a horror movie the day we visited--a shuffleboard table, pool, and lots of over-the-top 50s-themed decorations). The fact that the location is also attached to a Roman Candle Pizza is convenient for the drinks-and-dinner crowd, and the decorative fish tanks add to the "Atomic Koi" namesake. Even the bartenders seem 50s/60s themed, with lots of tattoos and a roller-derby-pinup-girl persona. The night we visited, the music was weird and super loud, ranging from heavy metal to golden oldies. This made conversation difficult, even though there were only the two of us. The drinks were very mediocre. Though priced reasonably ($6-$8, on average), drinks were extremely sweet (Gala) or strong (Pixie Stick), and both were reminiscent of a packaged mixer. Having not had a wider sampling, though, I can't say for sure. read more

This place is rarely crowded or loud, even on a weekend, so it's a great place to drink solo. The drinks are cheaper than anywhere else I've ever been, and they have a ton of specialty drinks, mostly fruity and/or frozen things. Plus, you can order pizza from next door and have them bring it to you in the bar. Despite the price, the bar isn't douche-y or trashy, and the music can be surprisingly good, especially for one of those tacky electronic jukeboxes. The patio is nice, and the bartenders are really chill and polite. Don't go out of your way to come here, but if you find yourself in or near Fitchburg and wanting a drink (or a game of pool or darts - there's never a wait for the games), this is the first place I'd recommend. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love this bar! It reminds me of the dive-y LA bars that I miss so much. They have a great interior; think dark, oddball movies always playing and pool tables at the tail end of the bar. They also have a vast array of drinks. Yeah they have a regular full bar but they also have a lot of specialty shots and drinks. My current favorite is the oatmeal cookie shot. The man loves their peanut butter and jelly shot which I also think is great! Their bartenders are great too! They have this subtle 'I think I'm cool' rock-a-billy vibe that is really cute. They are very light on the convo but know how to make a great vodka gimlet so I can't complain. It's kind of hard to rally friends to come here because apparently it's a little on the pricier side but I think this place is great and I always try to talk to this place up to anyone who'll listen! I do have a couple of gripes about this place though. I kind of wish that they served food. There is Roman Candle next door that will deliver I believe but what if I don't want a pizza? What if I want wings or dare I say cheese curds or something? I also know that if this place had more tv's especially during game days I could get the man to come more often. Cool place! Christy the bartender was pleasant, professional and most attentive. Interior is interesting but not distracting. Music and video complement this offbeat joint. AND! Roman Candle Pizza is across the hall, and many patrons ran there for a slice then brought it back to Koi to munch with their cocktail. If they can attract the diverse crowd that the Jade Monkey gets, this is a winner. If Atomic Koi becomes another happy hour hole full of uptight suburban whitey, debating the merits of lawn tractors and nannies, it is destined to follow Kelly's to the great equipment liquidator in the sky. read more

If you want to hang out a place where you are instantly transported to the 60's, the Koi is the place. Frank, Dean and Sammy would be proud. This is a cocktail lounge in the extreme sense.
