Tucked away off the busy Makati ave, I found this place looking for a Mexican restaurant in Manila. I brought a first date to this location. We shared a carafe of margaritas and calamari. We returned a couple weeks later and enjoyed some barbacoa tacos, chicken quesadillas and more calamari. The server was very sweet and remembered us from the first time. The food is delicious, everything we ordered was fresh, seasoned with cilantro and onions and various sides from hot sauce to aioli. Walking into A'Toda Madre is always a breath of fresh, tequila-tinged air! My wife and I love this classy little tequila restobar located in Makati's funky, neon-glowing Poblacion district. We are always promptly greeted with a warm and enthusiastic smile. Although we know the menu well, the servers always tell us if there's a special/promo going on (there usually is) and we go from there. A'Toda Madre has, without a doubt, the best selection of tequilas and mezcal that can be found in the Philippines. Every time we go, they have a new varietal that they encourage us to try. And their margaritas are dangerously delicious. They go down all too easily (and quickly)! The food is authentic Mexican that would make any Mexican native proud. The street tacos are the best we've had (outside of Mexico) and they pair perfectly with a cold cerveza or a tequila old-fashioned. Their menu features a variety of traditional Mexican dishes and an entire page of unique, specialty margaritas and cocktails. Btw their head bartender Cherrie is brilliant when preparing any drink you may request. In short, if you find your self in Makati, especially the Poblacion area, stop by A'Toda Madre. Went because it was near by and hungry. Actually wanted a burger before finding out it was a Mexican food spot. Ordered a small steak burrito to go. Opened it up and to my surprise it's a deep fried burrito, big too. Taste makes me think it would be like a deep fried Chipotle burrito. Well worth it. read more

Tequila, tequila and more tequila. They have a great selection here for tequila. I am not even sure what I tried haha but it went down so smooth! As in I didn't need the lime and salt haha. I will update the review once I ask my friend what we were drinking. They have good music here so it's a nice place to go with friends. I was here to celebrate a friend's birthday. They were so kind to store away the cake we brought until we needed it. Staff was great and accommodating. They gave us complimentary nachos. They weren't anything special. I also split a steak burrito with my friend. It tasted good but it was too much rice! I don't like too much rice in my burrito they should have filled it with more meat. However, it tasted good. A'Toda Madre is a hidden gem of a bar near Burgos St. I found it completely by chance, and now that I have, there's no doubt I'll be back! Quality tequila in Manila is harder to find than bi-partisan cooperation in Washington DC, but it's the order of the day here. They use it to make killer margaritas with fresh lime juice :-) The night I found this place, I didn't have dinner, but made due with two exceptional margaritas made with Cointreau, Patron Silver, agave syrup and fresh lime juice - now I can die happy ;-) This is apparently a wonderful place to meet friends for a night out to enjoy quality food and drink. I'm not really the type to pass on cocktail hour but somehow I can't even begin to describe the way my face crumpled when "tequila bar" was mentioned in my brats' group chat. I mean nothing good ever came out of tequila; everything wrong that had happened in high school was because of tequila. So why do these people want to bring me to a tequila bar? Is this a ploy to ruin my life all over again? Like I said, I'm not the type to pass on cocktail hour so a few hours later, I found myself in the innards of the red light district, sitting in the al fresco section of A'Toda Madre Tequila Bar, which is really the establishment's porch. Don't get me wrong, the place is comfy. The way it's designed is actually cool, what with the spiffy display of high-grade tequilas by the bar, the kickass signage, and not to mention the recurring Mexican sugar skull recurring all over the place. Plus, we happened to be in an air tunnel so in spite of summer, it was fairly cool. Since I was not about to just dive into trouble, I didn't even consider taking shots and asked for the Margarita de Casa. Once it arrived, the first thing I'd noticed is how it did not have that usual tequila reek. You know, that smell that makes the stomach wring just by the whiff of it. So I tasted it. And let me tell you, it was nothing like the ones I've had before - it was like tasting margarita for the first time all over again. It was nice and it went down smoothly. With an entire wall full of tequilas and a multitude of cocktails made with a wide range of tequilas, you're bound to find a drink that suits your taste. If you're a tequila purist, you'll love the higher end tequilas just on their own or over ice. I never ever thought I would say this, but I actually liked some of the higher-end tequilas, but keep the mezcal away from me! ATM, as it's commonly called, creates new cocktails regularly and the mezcal variety are popular with some, but I prefer the traditional margarita, Cadillac version, or the addictive Hot Mama. Go there, try it. You can't go wrong with having a few nibbles from the Mexican themed menu. Order a few tacos or nachos to go with your yummy cocktail and you're all set to start your night. Finally, a proper tequila bar in Metro Manila! Located in a small street just off Makati Ave, A'Toda Madre has possibly the most extensive collection of tequila in the whole country. And yes, they are understandably (but nicely) snobbish about it. Here's what I learned from a nice waitress named Kara while I was there: - Proper tequila is sipped, not shot (Shocker, I know) - Cuervo Gold?!? Ugh! - I now know the difference between Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo. Unfortunately, I didn't go and taste any of their tequila. I am still recovering from a major hangover from last Friday (Thank you, Rio), and besides tomorrow is a workday. However, when I go back (And I AM coming back), I will try out their Tequila Flight. For the uninitiated, a Flight is basically a sampler of a selection of alcohol, in this case tequila. You have the option of trying out a Flight of Blanco, Reposado, Anejo, or all three (Low end and High end). That honestly sounds like a plan. Welcome to alcohol heaven. A'toda Madre's claim to fame is its extensive tequila list. It has a LOT. Don't be overwhelmed though, the bartender will always be there to explain the fine details like the difference between "Anejo" and "Extra Anejo" (the latter one probably had more anejo). The bartender also explained that some of their tequilas are best appreciated when slowly sipped. This will enable you to taste the boldness of the agave and savor the intricacies of the aging process. Apparently tequilas aren't just to made to get you from zero to dancing wildly, fist pumping to all the regrets you'll have the next morning. While I'm not really a super fun of tequila, unless it involves the former (I jest), I still gave this place a 4/5 because of the experience. They'll give you free chips and salsa too! The bartender also mentioned that they have a tasting menu for the tequilas in which they'll serve you multiple shots with a thematic progression in terms of intensity. Not a bad place to visit if you're in the area. Have a shot or two in this place. It brings the class back to tequila. Oh, and they're also selling a very rare José Cuervo for P160k. A'Toda Madre is the lovechild of Dia de los Muertos and Makati's hipster foodie-alcoholic scene. The bar is tucked behind one of Makati's many small hotels, with only the color changing- glowing sugar skull to guide you there. It just opened up last year, but it's gained a popular following. I believe they're one of the first to introduce "flights" to the foodie scene. A tasting flight is essentially a sort of masterclass in telling tequilas apart, and A'Toda Madre is famous for their tequila flights, replete with Dia de los Muertos iconography. Don't let the small, neon-lit place fool you. It's not just a place to get smashingly drunk in. They've got pretty delicious food as well! Although they are pricey and servings are a bit small (what can I say? I'm a hungry girl), A'Toda Madre's food never lacks in herbs and spices that are inherent to Mexican food. I would recommend their tacos, chili verde and corn. What kind of corn, I don't know, but it was good and tasty and will change how you eat corn forever. read more

Tequila. It's the only thing you have to know and prepare yourself for when you decide to spend your night with friends at A 'Toda Madre. You'll definitely be chanting, "One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, Floor!" But there's a huge chance that instead of floor you'll ask for more if you try out every kind of tequila at their bar. They have tequila flights ranging from full highland (P575) to full lowland (P480) to blanco flights (P525), reposado (P645) and añejo (P700). If you're not familiar with tequila flights, this means that you sample multiple products in just one sitting. At A' Toda Madre they serve it at 1/2 ounce each shot. It's a very low key place to hang out in Durban Street. This Dia De Los Muertos-inspired tequila heaven also serves food. They don't serve much food but has all our favourite Mexican food in it like tacos and burritos. Ahh. This is like the best place for me in Williamsburgos. read more

A'Toda Madre's vibe and atmosphere is hands down, on point for what it is - a fun, Mexican tequila bar. All around the place are cool little calaveras or skulls depicting the Mexican Day of the Dead celebration. Perhaps what's even more striking is the wall of tequila bottles that greets you once you enter the place. That's when you know it's a legit tequila bar indeed. Another fantastic Poblacion find! A'Toda Madre is a triple-threat: Fantastic service, delicious tacos, and TEQUILA FLIGHTS! Yes, tequila flights. That means this is high-quality sipping tequila, not some bottom-shelf booze that is loaded up with sour mix. The staff was awesome with helping us pick out which tequilas to try, and their recommendations were on-point. The food is simple, street-style with delicious tacos and burritos. We got one of every kind of taco, and nothing disappointed. The interior here is really dark, comfortable, and cool. This is as good as it gets for my fave alcohol of all time: TEQUILA! This is my tequila heaven. It's a small cozy place in the heart of Poblacion with an impressive collection of tequila! They play salsa music. Muy bien! :) The owners of A'Toda Madre also own Tacos Chingones. So, if you are craving for your fave tacos but want a cocktail with it, go here! They have a taco platter that is good for sharing and comes with 3 meats. For drinks, I would recommend the Tequila Flight! But, if that's too much for you, I order the Tamarindo Margarita (premium tequila blanco, fresh lime juice and tamarindo nector). It's sweet and tangy, perfect drink to go with a heavy taco meal. If you are not a Tequila drinker, this place can help you appreciate this alcohol. Since it is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Poblacion's main street, you can have a pleasant, chill evening with a Margarita in hand while watching people walk bay. :) read more

We only came for drinks, but this has been the only bar in the Philippines I've been able to find a michelada! The bartender wasn't there so I had to direct on how to make it, and I had it with a San Miguel light instead of a Mexican beer which was twice the price. Tequila has never been my drink - or shot - of choice. I don't think it will ever be. But last night's tequila exploration made me appreciate it beyond the usual "shots! Shots! Shots!" reputation of this famous party starter. I learned that it is really meant to be sipped (whaaaat! Like whiskey?!), that smelling it reveals its different qualities (whaaaat! Like wine?!) and that there are actual tequila connoisseurs who know how to choose a proper bottle (whaaaat! Jose Cuervo and Patron are not the only tequila brands in the world?!). I learned these all at A'Toda Madre, a hole-in-the-wall joint right in the hustle and bustle of Poblacion. I first got their Morning Sunshine (or something to this effect). With Cointreau and grapefruit, it was refreshing - something I never thought I'd use to describe tequila. It was also strong - something I always knew about tequila. My fiancée ordered two more glasses of pure tequila to sip, each having its distinct quality. Then a friend well-versed with the inner workings of tequila, got a bottle of one of the best tequilas I've had. Smooth, refined yet still packing a punch, I need to recall the name! Starts with a C. If you don't like tequila, don't bother. If you do, and you want to go beyond the usual Cuervo found in other local bars and don't mind paying for the privilege then this place is definitely worth checking out. They say it has the largest tequila selection in the metro and that seems true. Apparently the owner personally brings new bottles to help stock the var with unique selections. That rarity doesn't come cheap though, but if you're not price sensitive then thus could be worth it. Aside from straight tequila they of course also serve margaritas. Not the usual frozen blended kind. These are served on-the-rocks in heavy colorful margarita glasses. The food was a bit of a let down. Portions are small and prices are high. The skewers were unremarkable. The chicharon with salsa was good, but its hard to screw up fried pork skin. The menu is pretty limited. Other Mexican options in the area include: El Chupacabra - Much cheaper. Much busier. No comparison in tequila selections. Today Madre beats them on food quality. Army Navy - Fast food. Cheap. No bar. Chihuahua - Now closed. Andale by Agave - Better value for money (they have bottomless margaritas for p295). Bigger & with a bar scene. Not as authentic. Much smaller tequila selection. If you're very price sensitive, Chupacabra will spare you the sticker shock. If you want cheap & fast, go for Army Navy. If you want great food & bottomless margaritas, go to Andale. If you're a tequila aficionado and more into the drinks than the food then A Toda Madre was made just for you. read more

A Toda Madre is arguably the most legitimate tequila bar in town, with about 120 kinds of tequila in store. Partida Elegante, Jose Cuervo 250, and Gran Patron Burdeos Anejo are some of their finest and most expensive, though with the "tequila brothers" always discovering new boutique distilleries, this information will most likely have changed by the time of reading. I was among the many who were intimidated by the sound of a "tequila bar," simply because I never had good tequila memories if I could remember them. I shudder at the thought. But Aljor and Sante Perreras themselves hang out at their bar so much that I've had the opportunity to meet and speak with them. They have enlightened me with the terrible culture of tequila I was exposed to and educated me with some blanco (white and young) tequila flights that reveal the complexity of the reposado, anejo, and extra anejo variations. I personally prefer the blanco in my cocktails, but understand the quality of extra anejo on its own. When you're feeling adventurous, do give the flight a try; you won't get a hangover if you drink tequila on its own, I promise. As for the food, I am absolutely raving about it. I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food but mostly because I've been exposed to bad tex-mex all my life. My visits to A Toda Madre have given me an appreciation of fresh, good salsa. I love the chicharones, too, not just because it's familiar to me but because the salsa is pretty awesome. The tostaditas, I get the pork. And I'm never satisfied with just the two pieces it comes with because it's so tasty. For entrees, I get the chorizo, but I would attest to the food being great so you can take your pick. And that ambience like it's Dia delos Muertos everyday... How cool is that? read more

I love the interior and décor of this place and food is very delicious - probably one of the best Mexican cuisine in the city. The tacos are the best in town (sorry Pancake House :P). and they have a the biggest collection of Tequila I've seen. BUT... I find it too expensive. A meal for two people can set you back around P400-P500 (with no drinks) and the cheapest shot of Tequila goes for around P250 if I remember correctly. Portions are small and the cocktails are unimpressive. One time I asked for extra salsa and I was given some in a small sauce dish. It ended up on my bill and it cost around P90! It's a shame that it's so pricy especially when the other bar/restaurants in the area are so much cheaper. read more

Intense headaches, a bottomless stomach, and a wish to crawl into a hole is normally how I feel after a tequila induced drinking spree. The place is small but has a lot of personality. The choices for their drinks were varied, making it both trivial and fun to choose what to order. Their food was good and had great flavors. The prices of their shots varied according to what bottle, with the most expensive being their Casa Noble Single Barrel for PhP1,500 a shot. Soon, the tequila tasting spree started. If you've only known (and sometimes wish you didn't know) Jose Cuervo all your life, you have to check out A Toda Madre in the Burgos area. The first time I heard about this restaurant I was told that it was a tequila bar (sounded interesting already!) but how many kinds of tequila could there be! When you enter this small restaurant you're welcomed by a wall of bottles, yes all filled with different kinds of tequila! My friends and I were pretty excited to see what was in store for us, we all ordered different cocktails so we could share and a bunch of pica picas in the middle. I had their version of a bloody Mary, it tasted different but it was good, on the spicy side and surprisingly no hang over the next day! My friend ordered hot tequila (weird, right?) and while we wondering how that would turn out, in comes a coffee cup, tequila cup? It was pretty good, a little on the weird side because it was just so unusual but worth the try! We ended up staying for hours, one drink after the other, great atmosphere, nice find and always good to try something new! read more

Arriving from Phoenix Arizona the trail was two days long. What I needed was something to clear said trail dust, San Miguel just didnt seem to be the answer. Walking in I had my first encounter with AJ and his brother Santo, In the world of F&B these two are in a word Gawds! Fantastic hosts gracious beyond compare and a sense of humor that would make any late night talk show envious.
