Good news- I finally made in to their store! Sucks that I waited to rediscover my passion for pottery after they moved 40 minutes away from my side of the city! They used to be in my backyard! Practically. I needed clay for class and the professor sent us to see Paul- 900 mix clay with a student discount! Yay!!! Then for the fun shopping- and I behaved, even though I wanted a ton of things. One glaze, because I already have of 30 pints of glaze at home. One tool- again, because I already have an assortment. One stamp- a Celtic one that I had to have as soon as I saw it!!! I am positive I will be back for more clay and probably more tools too. Classes with Asher are so relaxing and fun. We are so lucky to have this studio close by. We taken advantage of a wheel beginner class and a private workshop for our family. they have been so helpful in picking out glazes for our pieces and the cost for kiln firing seems really reasonable. read more

We arrived just after the shop closed on Friday, September 29th and Paul reopened the shop so we could make our purchases. Paul was extremely helpful in our selections and gave additional information about the glazes and how to layer them. He even introduced us to a new stamp not out on display for purchase yet. Great fun and nice people. My wife and I took 4 lessons and loved it. We had 6 folks in our group plus teacher (Lizzie) who was terrific.

The owner, Paul, is just the best to work with. Whatever you need, he probably has it or he can get it for you, or he can tell you how to get it. If you *think* you know what you want, just ask him what he thinks, and he'll probably save you money. Two days ago I picked up a bottle of underglaze. After I told him what I was doing, he guided me to get a cheaper bottle so I would have better success with my project - who does that? APS has dozens of clays and hundreds of glazes. There are tools and transfers ... all I'll ever need and then some. The Studio is great too. Lessons from some really good teachers on the wheels and in handbuilding. If you rent a shelf, you can spend your whole day there and meet a lot of experienced makers doing everything from sculpture to ornaments, and from large bowls down to the most perfect little matcha cups. He's working on getting a Raku kiln set up in the back as well. Oh, by the way, his turnaround time with the kilns is very quick - probably because so many potters use them. I'm sure I always will. This is a store/studio you don't want to miss if you're into ceramics. read more

I have been shopping with Atlantic Pottery Supply for several years and with three owners. Paul bought Atlantic Pottery Supply and has made many great changes to the store. Most notably, he is happy to help. He is always happy to answer questions and find the answer if he doesn't know it. The culture in the store is vibrant. Big changes include classes and work space. He also utilizes the space as a meeting space for visiting artists and lectures. Under new ownership since around May 2019. Stopped in to check out their selection of hand building tools that I saw on their website. Turns out the website is currently incorrect and they are trying to rectify the problem. If you're looking for something specific, you probably want to call them directly to see if they have it in store. The two people working were helpful. They're willing to order items for you and are interested in feedback on how they can improve their selection. Follow the directions on their website, the door to the business is in the back of a strip mall and could be difficult to find if just relying on GPS directions. They look like they've had some cool workshops, based on their Instagram posts (@atlanticpotterysupply). I hope they keep growing the business! read more

My rating comes from the studio/class perspective. Beware- the intro to wheel throwing is far from a class. More like, here's some clay, here's how to center it, good luck. No timeline, no structure, no thorough demos on how to make beginner things on the wheel (I was thinking, saucer one day, then bowl, then cup, maybe a vessel). Nope. The cost of the class also does not include glazes; therefore it requires significantly more $ to actually have any finished pieces. I have known and used this pottery supply house through two owners and two locations. If they don't have what you need or want, Kathy will order it. They offer classes to continue your pottery education but the real gem is that Kathy is an unlimited source of knowledge and referrals. She can help you select the right glaze, under Glaze's, clay or tools. She knows so much about how everything works that she often gets side swiped with needy customers (which I can be at times). Prices are normally priced but the customer service and concern for getting you to exact item for your needs is stellar.
