Our experience here was woeful. I share it with others on Yelp because it was a 5-star 2013 posted…read morereview that informed our judgement to use these folks. But if you read no further than this, if you are looking for quality upholstery work you will NOT find it here based on our experiences. We found poor follow through and shoddy quality and lots of excuses. We gave them three at bats with a strike every time. They're out. We finally had to pay another upholsterer to fix Home Fashion's errors in two chairs. I originally posted this review a couple of years ago, right after our "Three Strikes" experiences. Yelp notified me today that my original review was removed because I recommended the other upholsterer by name. It was my effort to be helpful as I would have found that information useful myself at one time. But I understand why Yelp HQ may have found it to be promoting a competitor. So to address their concerns I have removed the other company's name to repost this. I am loathe to write one star reviews and in particular for a family owned business. But our experience with Home Fashions was so bad that I share my criticism in the event it helps others avoid the same disappointments. I hope the owners would say we were reasonable as one business crisis or family issue on top of another on their part delayed work estimated at a couple of weeks to a couple of months and one error after another on their part had to be corrected requiring one trip after another on our part to get it fixed. In the mode of slow learners, my husband and I used Home Fashions for three projects. STRIKE ONE: Starting with reupholstery of seats on six dining chairs. Their commitment was "a week or so tops" to do this work once in the shop. But it took them a month to turn around six simple chair seats with one postponement delay after another. We finally had to press to get the seats done. When I went in to the shop to see the first one for approval I pointed out that it looked as if the seat cushion had been cut in a way that did not fit the chair. That was, I was told, only because they had not yet screwed the cushion to the frame. But when the chairs were delivered they sure enough had cut the bases wrong and the cushions had to go back to be redone. I realized "things happen" and I felt better they picked up their faulty work the next day and returned the seats the day after that. Still, strike one. STRIKE TWO: They also were creating a simple cushion for a built in bench. The owner came to the house to measure, they were not working from homeowner measurements. It took them more than six weeks (two weeks was estimated) to make this simple cushion from the time I delivered fabric to them. When the cushion was finally done it was too wide to fit the bench because of the owner's error when measuring. And it was we who had to return it, they did not pick it up, and wait yet a couple of more weeks to have it remade in the right size. Strike two. STRIKE THREE At this same time they were working to reupholster two arm chairs. It would defy belief to share that what should have been no more than a two week turnaround was TWO MONTH turnaround. We had these chairs custom made and upholstered fifteen years ago by another upholsterer and they were made from scratch in less than two weeks. The Home Fashions folks had to be chased repeatedly, both by us and the interior designer working on our home, on these two chairs. We had to make several trips in to look at the work in progress for problems. They would repeatedly reply "Yes, we think we should make that better" or "That didn't seem right to me either." Then, I wondered, why not make it right before having the client come look at it? I think the answer is they just do not have the skill needed. The final work on these chairs when delivered was not the quality of upholstery tailoring expected or promised. The owner / daughter agreed they had significant cushion and side upholstery errors. Strike three. THEY'RE OUT! Our preference would have been to hold part of final payment to pay another upholstery work room fix these errors but Home Fashions is allowed by law to fix these themselves if they choose. And that is what they wanted to do, have us return the chairs to them to try again. But after two months delay and multiple errors they agreed were wrong when we'd point them out, lots of extra time needed by us to continue to visit the workroom and a very poor quality product finally delivered, we had no confidence they could fix what they had repeatedly messed up. We hoped they would realize these chairs needed new hands to get them fixed and have agreed to partial refund as apology for their poor work and two month delay so we could take these elsewhere. They did not. Three previous strikes and they're out. Our sanity was worth paying for another workroom with better skills to fix these chairs.

This third generation Boise family owned business is now run by the grandchildren of the founder…read more We have had stellar experiences with Crowell & Company. We're so delighted that we have more work planned for the future. The owners are first class to work with to do what they say they will do when they say they will do it, the craftsmen in the workroom produce top quality outcomes, prices are fair and every member of their team is a pleasure. If you're looking for a quality focused upholstery business in Boise where pride of ownership shines and every employee is vested in getting things right, you found it! THEIR WORK Crowell has completed several projects for our home. To start, they refabricated the woeful upholstery work of another local upholsterer on two arm chairs. It is much more difficult to fix another workroom's big errors than to start from scratch, but fix them Crowell's did to make the chairs look great. They also did minor upholstery repair on a new chair from a good local retailer when that chair arrived with cushion and button tufting snafus to make the chair 'all new'. They did a beautiful job on creating custom pillows. And their reupholstery of our sofa was a splendid example of top notch craftsmanship. A nod to Glenn, the man who did that work. It does not get better than this! THEIR REPEAT CUSTOMERS ARE THEIR BEST ADVERTISEMENT Our only regret is we didn't know about Crowell & Company sooner! They don't do a lot of promotion and currently don't even have a working web page. The talented interior designer working on our home (Angela Incelli, Les Bois Interior Design...and we highly recommend her) introduced us this business. Via Yelp review I hope Crowell & Company is introduced to others. Angela is having Crowell do additional work for us in reupholstering a guest bedroom chair and then my favorite desk chair...and then making a custom ottoman for the master bedroom. It's sort of like eating potato chips...it's hard to stop at just one project when there is a resource like Crowell & Company to do the work. THEIR SERVICE Christian, one of the owners, was delightful to work with in reviewing the work to be done and creating the estimate for time and labor. Sarah, a co-owner, was equally a joy in working with both us and the interior designer on follow up questions and answers. The young mean who pick up the work to be done and deliver it when finished are professional and friendly. Jennifer, in the showroom, is always so helpful. And Glenn who did the upholstery work on our projects is, as they say, "the man" for producing a fantastic end product where pride in work shows. And they started and completed their work right on schedule, that is within a few days. Bravo and Brava all around! THEIR WORKROOM They have a few fabric books and samples in their well lighted showroom if you want to order product from them, or they work with materials you or your designer might order from anywhere else. THIS N THAT: 1) CONVENIENT PARKING: In their private lot in a small business complex, next to Siemens. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: From parking through level in the door and all customer spaces on one floor, all is easy to access. 3) RELATED: AC Manufacturing Mobile next door is a Crowell owned business too. They do work for commercial / hospitality customers like upholstery in restaurant seating.

Christian Crowell was hired to do upholstery on my patio furniture. He will not return phone calls…read moreor emails. he has been paid in full(my mistake) as he said he need the cash to finish the job and pay employees. In good faith I paid and he still owes me two dining chairs, I have a full couch that the cushions do not fit.. way to small, and some seams coming apart, cushion backs have zero crown on them. i Am so disappointed in his work - he seemed very agitated and too busy to handle to job at the time so I agreed he could work on them after summer- I have never heard from him again. His family does have an amazing reputation in this business, but if he has gone on his own I am not sure - what I do know is he did a terrible job and I am left with a huge $$ mess and pario furniture that doesn't fit and is not what I originally ordered- he used the wrong fabric on chairs, seat jacks don't fit.. I am Beyond flabbergasted at this job. I have never in my life written a bad review for anyone but he refuses to communicate.
