Our initial conversation with Joe and his team was extremely helpful in answering our questions around what to expect from a renovation. Lucho, our project manager, was fantastic. Super communicative, helpful, and always responsive. Amy helped make sure that all materials, tile, etc. were ordered and worked with us to find just the right thing when we were only had a vague idea or when we needed to adjust a purchase due to price or availability. RessaBuilt uses a software system to track everything which made the whole project seamless. We were able to see regular updates as well as track communication, etc. We always knew what was going on and were able to ask any questions or raise any concerns early so that everything went smoothly. I think the only flaw the entire time was the painters that were used for our project weren't great and we needed to go back and forth multiple times requesting fixes, spots missed, extra coats, etc. Lucho and Ressa were always happy to accommodate but it did feel like the only sub-par part of our experience. Overall, again, everything was wonderful. From experiences I have heard from friends and others, our renovation went just about as perfect as it could have.

We would not hire or recommend RESSA. We completely knocked down our old home to build a modern two-story house. We hired RESSA because they quoted us at the lowest price, but in the long run we ended up paying for it with more money, time and stress. We have held off posting about RessaBuilt but no other family should have to go through our experience! TIMELINE: The project took over a year longer than initially projected by RESSA. Keep in mind they had to return afterwards to fix multiple problems that were never resolved, including multiple ROOF LEAKS. (I recently had to call a roofer to come fix yet ANOTHER roof leak (on 10/25/2022). PERMITS We had to personally deal with WSSC to get the proper permits bc RESSA was unable to resolve the issues themselves. We had to personally deal with the county to make sure inspections were promptly scheduled. After months of not being able to secure certain required permits from the county, we took it upon ourselves to personally go to the permitting office, get the answers needed, complete the paperwork required, and secure the permits for RESSA. It was extremely frustrating, time consuming and something we as the client should not have had to do. Even permitting office employees were surprised at our level of involvement and openly expressed their skepticism as to whether the RESSA team had ever done this before. LACK OF MANAGEMENT They have a project management system but were unable to keep track of all project changes, which caused a lot of confusion, delays and unexpected expenses. RESSA was unable to keep track of tasks, timeline or the budget. We always had to go digging for emails and text messages because they were not keeping track of items properly. Many items they marked as completed were not in fact completed upon inspection. During the last month we had to physically be onsite to ensure subcontractors were showing up and tasks were being completed on time, because we had lost complete trust in RESSA's ability to manage the project. The Project Manager was unqualified. During our weekly walk throughs, he'd take notes on a piece of cardboard. LACK OF EXPERIENCE WITH MODERN ARCHITECTURE It was quickly apparent that their crew had no experience building modern homes, which resulted in tasks having to be redone numerous times and some were never able to be done at a high quality level. We have also openly questioned whether the RESSA team had ever done ground up construction before. MANY BUDGET ISSUES Near the end of the project, we were blindsided by a list of items totaling around $50,000.00 that RESSA claimed we owed. This occurred after we had to personally come out of pocket almost $20,000.00 for additional plumbing that was not budgeted for because RESSA had not warned us that the number of bathrooms in the new house would require excavating out to the street for expanded plumbing tubes, per county requirements. We also had to personally come out of pocket over $20,000.00 for a sprinkler system in the state of Maryland. Today (March 15, 2023), yet again, we have two (2) more ceiling leaks! It's never ending.

He demolished our house and rug out the hole to pour a new foundation. He was also really nice to our little kids who were so interested in the whole process. He explained what was happening and showed them the machines. They were over the moon. Now his team is back to do the final dirt grading. His machines are already there and ready to go. I would work with him a thousand times over. I wish all jobs went as smoothly as this one has with him and his team.

We contacted Neal (the owner of Double K) to see if he had an opening to refinish the half bathroom…read morein our home. From the moment Neal came over to get an idea of what we wanted to the completion of the project it could not have gone smoother. Ralph (the project manager) and his crew did an excellent job. Ralph was more than happy to take the time to listen to our thoughts and was great to work with. Since Double K had done such a great job with the half bath we contacted Neal once again to completely gut our aging kitchen. As with the first renovation the process was flawless. He had great suppliers to work with Jack from Appliances Unlimited, Keith from Kitchens by Quality, and Bob from the Tile Shop. All were a pleasure to work with and took their time to listen to our ideas (although in most cases their ideas were better). Again, Ralph and his crew did a great job -- we are beyond happy. As Double K were redoing the kitchen we noticed a sag in the the ceiling of our carport. We had noticed it before and it was continually getting worse. We asked Neal if he would take a look. He provided an estimate and they had it done (I believe in a day). Long story short. Finding a great contractor with a crew you can completely trust is a difficult a task. I can firmly say -- that task is not an issue for us anymore. Double K has very much proven that we needn't look any further.

It's the little things that count: -laying down tarp or coverings as to not track dirt/work mess. -becoming a part of your daily routine without intruding on your day-to-day activities (and they will be there long if you have massive projects) -keeping in touch via text or email if they are not showing up a day -superb detailing in everything... from painting, to cabinet installation... they will make your vision come alive -owner Matt, checking in periodically on progress -trustworthy advice on things that need to be fixed things that don't need to be fixed -one stop shop -- I needed hardwood flooring done in the new kitchen, for example, and they linked me with someone who coordinated work with them Minor downsides: -surprise costs like hauling trash or materials (Always budget more, you may not get a clear scope of how much exactly after labor/materials will cost. The estimate only factors a general idea, so be clear up front.) -had to rush them a bit to stick to timeline (always fast during demo, but towards end gets a little slower. was easily remedied when asked them to communicate more on which work days they would be in/out) If you have a massive dream project, they are the people to get it done. We have met many contractors of all different areas, and always encounter difficulty in response time, details and cleanliness (this is a big one for me). Willis is one of those gems, albeit pricey but I trusted them coming into our home daily and still trust them for consults on small projects.

For our first-ever home remodeling, we decided to go with Matthew Willis' team to help us renovate…read moreour basement. We worked with them for a total of 2 months in turning around an empty basement to an inviting space with a wet bar, entertainment room, new bathroom, and playroom. It turned out to be a great decision to use Willis with their constant communication, knowledgeable team headed by project manager Luis, and their ability to turn our vision into reality. After a walk-through of our dream basement, Matt was timely and thorough with our project estimates which we really appreciated. He answered any questions we had without hesitation, which made him very approachable. Throughout the entire project, we knew we could communicate with him via email or text, and he was always very up-to-date with how our project was progressing. He also came by every few weeks, and he made sure everything was going as planned. Luis, our project manager, was also a great person to work with. He made sure that my husband and I were happy with his work, and whenever we came to a hiccup (and there always will be minor hiccups!), he would always consult us before continuing on. He was more than flexible with any of our adjustments/changes and stayed on task with his team. If we plan on doing another renovation, we are definitely looking to hire Willis' team once again.
