As a first-time mom, I thought breastfeeding would come naturally. My baby was born 3 weeks early, and we struggled from the start. By 3 weeks old, he was in the 2nd percentile for weight, and I wasn't sure I'd be able to build a milk supply. Working with Lerae and Nakaiya at Atlanta Lactation was a complete turning point. They created a personalized plan for us and met with me weekly to adjust it as needed. They were incredibly supportive, never pushy, and always encouraged me to follow what worked best for me and my baby while providing expert guidance. They also helped me so much with pumping--everything from creating a schedule to using wearable pumps and even figuring out milk storage for travel. That support made a huge difference in my confidence and day-to-day routine. After 5 weeks, my baby graduated at 8 weeks old, now thriving, chunky, and fully nourished on breastmilk. I can't find the words to describe how incredible Atlanta Lactation has been. As a first time mom, it feels so isolating and overwhelming-- never knowing if you're doing the right thing or not. Katherine Morrison is a hero in the truest sense of the word. She was there for me in a time of crisis, which, looking back, would determine my entire breastfeeding journey. I was having such severe pain nursing my 4-day-old baby that i texted Katherine asking if she could recommend a miracle lanolin cream or nipple butter. She immediately got back to me and hypothesized that my pain was beyond repair with a magic cream, and that something with my baby's latch was very wrong. Then the kicker: she asked if we could get in the car and come over to her house to fix the latch right then. It was 8 pm on a Saturday night. I cried. Could not believe her kindness. At 8:30 pm my little family sat in Katherine's home office practicing as I latched and relatched my brand new baby. My husband recorded our visit, and we spent the next several days rewatching the videos and practicing all of Katherine's coaching at home. My baby is now 3 weeks old, and we are loving our now-painless breastfeeding journey together. There is no magic nipple cream. Katherine is the closest thing to magic that you will have available. I am forever in debt to her, not just for her tremendous, immeasurable expertise, but for her grace, kindness and selflessness as well. At the hospital, I was having major issues nursing our baby. I was in so much pain and was told from the lactation consultants in the hospital that it was normal and would get better. Once we got home, our daughter was clearly not getting enough to eat. She wasn't pooping and was very frustrated after feeding. In desperation, we reached out to Atlanta Lactation. Katherine was so quick to respond and got us set up with an appointment ASAP. Goldie came to see us and helped SO much that first session. She taught us so much and it was the most content we've seen our daughter after a feeding. It was such a relief! She advised us on how to move forward so that I could heal and so that our daughter could get more full feedings. We ended up needing to give her a bottle and supplement with some formula in order to get her what she needed until we figured out what was going on. She connected us with a doctor who specializes in lip/tongue ties and helped to make sure he could see us ASAP. Turns out Goldie was right... our daughter had a lip and tongue tie. We got both clipped that day. Moving forward, both Goldie and Katherine were available for all of our questions as we worked to get our daughter back to exclusively breastfeeding. So many texts and phone calls and they were so quick to respond. 12 weeks later, after a lot of work... we are done with the bottle and back to exclusively breastfeeding! My entire experience with Atlanta Lactation was great, even from when I first contacted them to set up an appointment- they were super prompt in verifying my insurance coverage and then in booking my appointment, which was very important to me as I was struggling with figuring out nursing my newborn and wanted help ASAP. Heather was my consultant and my husband and I agreed she was wonderful - so friendly, knowledgeable, patient and calming. I felt so at ease with her which any new mom dealing with the anxiety of trying to nurse can appreciate! She gave some great nursing tips and general baby advice - my favorite tip being a special way to hold baby to get them to stop fussing! Works every time! I decided after a week that nursing simply wasn't working for us (largely due to my own anxiety and needing to know how much my son was getting) and I decided to exclusively pump instead. When I canceled my follow-up appointment with Heather (as I didn't want to waste her time if I was throwing in the towel on directly nursing), she and Katherine the owner were so sweet and supportive of my decision, saying it was great I had decided on what was best for myself and my baby. To me, that response from them both said it all - that they are genuine and simply want to help mothers do what's best for them, even if it means they no longer have them as a client. I couldn't be happier with the quality of care I received with the Atlanta lactation team! Laura, Katherine and Nakaiya were amazing! My baby had a tongue tie which made breastfeeding a lot more painful than it is supposed to be. We came to them and they recommended us to an amazing specialist who treated the tie and immediately my baby and I were doing much better with feeding! They also scheduled us for several follow-up appointments to make sure all was going smoothly from there, and provided guidance on when and how to start pumping as needed. I've got nothing but amazing things to say about Atlanta Lactation. I saw Katherine a few weeks before my baby was due for a prenatal consultation. I can't say enough good things about Katherine and her team. I worked mostly with Katherine and she was nothing but supportive the entire time as I figured out what feeding method would work for my newborn. She has a very calming and supportive presence which was great, being that I first met with her a few days postpartum, while still groggy and exhausted. She helped me find a few options to try and let me borrow a few products to try out so I didn't have to buy them right away. There was one day when a charger needed was not sent home with me, and being I couldn't leave my house, Katherine sent a new one via Amazon Prime Now that arrived within an hour- amazing customer service! Katherine has always been responsive and continues to try and help troubleshoot via phone and text, very rare these days to have that open communication available (within reason). Katherine is the best. She is so sweet and understanding. I can text her pretty much any time and she answers within minutes with a solution! She is so wonderful.
