We had a really fantastic experience at the Athol Hospital ER last month with my 8yo daughter who was having trouble breathing with her bronchitis. They took a blood sample when I went to the emergency room and they contaminated it which screwed everything up when I went to another hospital they're horrible I can't even take a blood sample correctly so unbelievable read more

Train your staff to wash their hands. Waiting for a blood draw, I have watched the phlebotomist take gloves off & put gloves on . No hand washing in between draws is very unacceptable. I am reporting this matter to appropriate depts. read more

I'm sitting in the ER waiting room as I write this review. Brought my husband in for seizures. Found out he has covid as well. I can not be in the room with him, but I can sit here no mask, walk around the hospital no mask, go home with him, but cannot go in the room with him. Passed out due to the seizures so he can't tell them what happened and not one person has asked me what happened. Have been here now for almost 3 hours said they would update me and yet not one person has come out to tell me what's going on. Place is a joke. Saturday I had an unfortunate medical incident that required me to need to go to the ER. I have read so many negative things about Athol Hospital that I was nervous about going but I needed to go to the closest place possible. I arrived and they were incredibly busy. The ER was full, they had people being treated in the hallways and several people waiting to be seen in the waiting room. While the wait time was longer than anyone would like, I understand because of how busy they were. The staff was incredible. They came out and took peoples vitals and checked them in while they waited to be seen. Once I was taken in, I had to be seen in the hallway but the staff was attentive, quick and checked in regularly. I cannot praise Carol enough. She continued to check and make sure I was ok and I knew she could sense I was scared. The hospital also does an excellent job of protecting the patients and themselves against Covid. They have screens up to protect the patients waiting and have separate bathrooms for Covid positive vs non Covid patients. I have to say I was impressed with how everything was handled especially given how busy they are. It far exceeded my expectations. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I brought my 7 month old in because she was bleeding from her vagina which is not normal and was being a bit fussier that usual because she never cries. They treated me like I was stupid. Kept making snarky remarks about my daughter not being fussy. And like I told them from the beginning she's not cryong and fussing like she's in pain but she's not being normal. and they continued to be awful. So we left. Worst hospital ever. made me feel like a horrible parent for caring about my daughter. read more

I'm giving 3 stars because my Dr who does my upper GI's and the day surgical team are great. It's a nice area of the hospital with views. Because of ongoing issues I'm having and before my next surgery, the Dr ordered iv fluids for dehydration and nausea meds. The first day was okay or I tolerated hoping next time would be better. The oncology department doesn't seem to deal well with busy days. Took a few tries to find my vain. But because it was in the bend of my elbow it made the machine beep bothering the nurses. So next time one nurse tried, a second nurse found the vain. The third time returned with bruises and was told she would have to "dig" because my veins rolled. "Rolled" was a term I used the first day when they had trouble because that's what I was told after a 5 day hospital stay and iv gave me trouble. So no I did not stay and let the nurse "dig" for my vain. Not wanting to tell them how to do their job but I know there are other ways to find veins besides flicking, slapping or digging. I'm at an ideal weight for my height so that's not the problem. I called the next time to cancel. Somehow they knew it was me without asking my name. The reception said. We figured because you left but thanks for calling us today. It's small part of the hospital and the nurses were there every time I went. The reception said. If I need oncology again I'll opt for Haywood hospital in Gardner. read more

This place is pretty bad..My wife had a stroke last year while I was away on business. Despite all the typical symptoms (numbness on one side, blurred vision, severe nausea, clinching of the hand, severe pain in the back of the head), they diagnosed her with a severe migrane and gave her asprin. They assured me that it was only a migrane, and she would be released the next day and I could go to work and pick her up later in the afternoon. She was sleeping when I arrived at night, and didn't understand the severity of it, so I believed their severe misdiagnosis. They didn't tell me the symptoms she described to me the next day. They ran an MRI the next mid morning and discovered it was a stroke, more than 24 hours later from the actual stroke. The hospital didn't even contact me to tell me she was being transferred to Worcester. They sent her to Umass worcester the next day,fortunately, and the nursing staff their could not believe they did nothing for such a long period. Thank god it was a very minor stroke, no permanent damage, and she recovered 100% after months of therapy. I have never dealt with such a misdiagnosis because I have always had positive experiences at other medical facilities on the North Shore. This opened me eyes to the medical practice. Hopefully we will never have to be rushed to this so called medical facility again. This place is a disgrace. read more

I recently had a visit to have an MRI at the Athol Hospital, and had the most frightful experience with the MRI technician! I would suggest going elsewhere before stepping into this facility. The male technician spoke rudely to my husband in regards to where he could sit and wait, and there wasn't even any one else in the waiting area. He then argued with me about my undergarments. I'm like okay you're freighting me. I could not wait to leave this dated facility, the facility was recommend by my healthcare provider, all about saving them money. I would highly recommend going elsewhere. read more

So this place sucks completely my sister had went in for a sore throat and ear ache at like 2:10am in the morning and this is where it gott bad the nurse calling her in didn't even call her in by the right name it took like 15 minutes to even get through to see a Nruse then it took them 10 minutes to bring me and my sister in law who accompanied my sister to the hospital and then while the front window nurse walked us to my sister in the back and every nurse beind the glass are trying to "secretly" tell her no dont bring them back. We waited about 10-13 minutes with my sister in the room and the Nurses especially this RN named Ashley who spoke in a loud whisper " we were saying no, what do you want the doctor to have an audience" the front window nurse replies saying "oh sorry didn't hear you guys" as we are still sitting there they continue to be rude and talk in anloud whisper about me and my appearance (which was shorts and a tang top while it was pretty cold out) then the time comes for us let us ou to leave my sister. the RN Ashely very loudly says " do you want me to ask them to leave now" the very snippy comes up to the door way and at this point I'm highly upset with my experience so I reply in a manner that matched hers I confronted her about the rudeness I experienced and she said " oh how where we being rude" and I pointed out how she was rude and got very sinppy again saying "that's not how it works" But I left to the waiting room with my sister in law. And sat there waiting for my sister for about 15 minutes more also there was no communication at all because service was very poor. While my sister was in the back by herself with no one really keeping an eye on her ( even though my sister is grown she was not feeling well) the Nurses and RN Ashely continued to trash us saying " They think they are entitled ". No we did not but I feel that i have the right as a sister to be by my sisters side while shes ill. She. While shes in the back the doctor finally sees here, he sat at the bed the entire time only check my sisters ear, did not do a strep test on her sore throat, did not ask any real question told her she may need a shot in her butt, made her just go "ahhhhhh" then made her scream "ahhhhh" as loud as she could WITH A SORE THROAT!!! Over all they suck and will never go there again I will take the 54 minute ride to a better hospital!!!! read more

Small hometown hospital. Not as technologically advanced as big city counterparts. Tons of knowledgeable staff and doing good deeds in an area with little access to large hospitals. Have patients as staff is limited but will take good care of your medical needs. read more
