He was bathed, turned, repositioned and medicated routinely and as needed. His call light was answered within a reasonable time. And he received therapy at least 3x week with him stating he got good work outs on his core and legs. He is satisfied and so I am pleased.

I STRONGLY believe this was in large part due to the perfect trifecta of a top-notch surgeon, the best PT, and Coach Kern. The place has a limited amount of parking available but the parking is FREE. The place is clean and the caregivers are competent and compassionate. He appears to be well taken care of. The food here is not appealing however and my friend doesn't eat much due to nausea , the result of various medical treatments he has undergone in recent months. In Illinois (decades ago) I worked in several facilities that cared for disabled people and I also had experience with two long-term care facilities when my grandfather was alive. Much has changed in this field, and with Oakbrook Care I see such attention to detail and dignity for their clients, residents and staff ...it's overwhelming at times. Two months after moms initial acceptance for subacute rehab ( she is now blessed to be part of the memory care - called Garden View - and lives full time at OBC ) and it still brings tears to my eyes when I tell people about the facility my mother now lives in. My brother and I have a sense of peace about Mom that we haven't had for years as Mom is well loved and protected at OBC. Mom likes it too ! Sheets changed daily, two lovely gardens, a quiet library, excellent safety protocols, much smaller staff that really gets to know the residents in memory care. In addition staff like Norman, Maggie and Keisha all three who almost walk on water.... Is it prefect? No, but Mom isn't perfect either and I love her! I suggest families continue to respect and thank the hardworking caring staff and still diligently advocate when issues need addressing. My Mom passed away here years ago . Now I find my dad here for rehab and there are soooo many…read morethings wrong with the place, I could write a laundry list. My elderly Dad broke his hip. He was at Edwards Hospital for 7 days and each of those days after surgery he was gotten up in the chair. It took some effort, but they did it. He's on his 4th day here and still unable to get him in the chair. Rehab won't try and he'll need a lift to get him up. He needs full care at this point. The other day I arrived at 11 am. His cold breakfast was uneaten on his tray table, no blankets on him and he was on a bedpan for well over an hour. They said they couldn't wake him up. Well I showed them how to wake him up and with my help he ate everything plus 2 ensure shakes ( which I brought) , orange juice and a large glass of water. His room was and still is filthy. Can't find anyone to clean it. His television is all staticky and almost unwatchable. Trash in the drawers and under furniture from another patient. The place just smells! I can't in good conscience recommend this place to anyone and as soon as I am able, I'll get my Dad out of here. He deserves better. I am a health professional and have lots of experience with hospitals, nursing homes and rehab centers.

Families rely on clear communication and compassion when a loved one is in rehab, and we did not consistently experience that level of care. The physical therapy dept. was a bright spot in my mother's day, but this was after switching the physical therapist from Steve to Desiree. Desiree stood out for her compassion, kindness, and genuine concern for her patients. She treated my mother with dignity and encouragement and made a meaningful difference in her rehab experience. I am very grateful for the care and dedication she showed. I recognize that rehab facilities can be busy and understaffed, but I believe there is significant room for improvement in communication (a simple good morning when you see a family member), responsiveness, and patient-family interactions.
