This is a gratitude note I sent to Columbia Rehab Specialist yesterday: for the last eighteen…read moremonths or so I have had to drink water, coffee, and wine with my left hand. The torn and atrophied rotator cuff on that helps me raise my arm to drink anything has prevented me from doing so. As much as I hate them, I have been doing the shoulder exercises at least every other day and the theory that I would be able to strengthen the muscles on my right side. I can still hear Fay saying to me, "Push your shoulder blades together when I did the wall exercises and those on the bed." On the other hand, I love the leg and back exercises and do them daily. I take weekends off, but I am going to start chair yoga. I did not finish the back series, because I was do for knee surgery soon after. However, I have cobbled together a series of exercises and stretches I got from a chiropractor almost thirty-five years ago, when I first starting having back problems. I get on my hands and knees and sit back on my heels and also arch my back and hold for two seconds. I finish with a yoga sketch that has be on my hands and knees, arching my back, and throwing my head back. I keep up with back exercises in order to stay out of a wheel chair. Peripheral neuropathy is nasty. It is worse on the right side than the left. I finally put together the back, leg, and shoulder exercises and find if I suck in my gut and pull in my butt, I can resume a normal gait. With Covid-19 having wash our hands all the time, I find it is easier to do stretches with the ABC song than lose my way through counting out twenty seconds. I hope this terrible disease is treating you well. One of my best friends is a physical therapist and I know it is an essential service. Please stay well. You are too good at your jobs to come down with this terrible disease.

In all seriousness these ladies have been great... I'm progressing well, they take time to understand what's happening with my injury, not a single question I have had has ever been a dumb one and the little things they are teaching me to help myself heal are great! Thanks for all you guys do!

Nurses and aids were often rude, some yelled at patient in their own frustration. no matter how many times charge nurses of DON handled the situations, new staff would come on and always had similar situations again. the facility itself needs walls painted and intercoms on walls fixed and updated. many hang loose off wall and you can see into the drywall. there was what looked like dried running water markings from ceiling down the wall at head of bed. Nurses often left wet and soiled wash clothes on bathroom floor, counter and sometimes the sink. food was somewhat okay and once in a while had something delicious too. PT group was awesome with loved one.. Wish I had the money to repaint building, buy new furniture as the shellac was rubbed off tables, nightstands, cabinets. great room table tops all look filthy, same trash laid on the floor for several days without being cleaned up in great Room. when our loved one needed someone and after an hour or so was crying in pain or left on toilet thirsty minutes after just having surgery, I was crying too as no one gave me the time of day when I looked for help. if they did, they came at looked at sister and went right back out of the door saying nothing and no one still ever came. family felt helpless for trying to help our loved one.
