Although I have Athens for my regular trash/recycling/compost company and am satisfied with their service and efficiency, this review is regarding their bulk pick-up services. I had a refrigerator break down and went on the Athens website to request a bulk item pick up and received confirmation of approval the following day. My refrigerator was picked up early the next morning and I couldn't be happier. A+++++ for easy and quick website and services. The City of Whittier changed to Athens from Republic in November of last year. A woman from Athens came to the City Council meeting and gave the presentation about how professional Athens was and that the transition would be seamless. She lied. Athens sent a bill for 3 months even though Republic was still servicing the City of Whittier for one of those months so they were double billing customers. The bill had the incorrect number of trash barrels even though Republic had the correct information and the clerks at Athens were supposed to input that information into their system. They sent out endless text messages with incorrect information. They delivered the wrong number of trash barrels. I had 10 trash cans at my house and could not get anyone to figure out how to get the correct number...1 black, 1 blue and 2 green It has been endless phone calls with workers who have no idea how to solve billing problems or pick up barrels. Terrible Customer Service. They are all rude and are working from their bedroom or in the checkout line at Costco. I actually heard, "Costco card please" on one call. It is April and I still do not have even ONE correct bill. If your city is considering Athens..do not let them do it. It will be a nightmare of rude employees that get paid to do nothing. It took them 2.5 months to bring them after 4 calls and several excuses on why everyone in our neighborhood got brand new cans and we couldn't at a minimum keep our old ones until the new ones arrived. ZERO stars for removing my dumpster and all recycle and yard waste bin in the middle of the state of emergency and the worst wild fires in California history. We have issues getting Athens to service our alley, despite charging insane amounts to do this. So I have an illegal dumping issue here nearly constantly. Last night someone illegally dumped where the dumpster used to be and they lit the debris on fire and it burned my building! They are in violation of regulations disallowing price gouging and other shut off regulations during a state of emergency. The city of LA needs to dump this contract with this unethical and unscrupulous company immediately. If they cannot provide the service, they should not be charging me for it. I have been trying to get them to resolve this for over 2 years and they refuse to do the right thing. I will not double pay for services I have never received and their bills include years of service I never actually received and am due a significant refund. The worst company to deal with. They advertise container rentals for roofs and they really are not in that market. They took a $687 deposit and were unable to provide the service. They told me they processed a credit back to my credit card (wait 7-10 days for it) I did and no refund. I called another four times they hang up on you they lie and tell you it's coming in 3 days and it never posts. I have filed a claim with my bank now and I intend to pay them for there trash services the same way they reimbursed me for a container that never came. What a bunch of Losers!! read more

Unfortunately one of the trash bins the recycle one the blue one wasn't new which I wasn't expecting a brand new one but at least expected clean. Let me tell you it was filthy. I'm talking like if there was a dead cat in there I'm not kidding you so I called customer service and spoke to Mercedes or Merced. I forgot very nice lady. I told her my concerns if it can be replaced she put me on hold for a brief moment got back with me and said they're gonna replace it within a week but just to leave it out there. Athens Services is reliable most of the time except when there is a new driver they don't look at notes on the account to make sure they know which gate the bins are supposed to be taken out from. The driver stops at the location assumes the gate is locked and leaves. I get an automated message and I have to take time out of my day to call them and explain the situation. This has happened once a month every month for over a year. I have asked to speak to a supervisor and they have not called me. For the amount of money I spend monthly on this service, I expect them to do better. If a supervisor or management reads this, please call me. Thank you. read more

When our city changed to Athens I didn't think much of it but there have been times they forget to pass by, which we never had this problem with the other trash company. Last Monday they switched out cans and in the process they once again forgot to pick up my trash bin. I have called them daily to remind them to come get it and they promise to send a truck and they even open a ticket for service request . It has been sitting out on my street the entire week. This is a complaint about the company in general, not a particular location. I live in an HOA in the west LA area, and they are supposed to service our big trash dumpster every Tuesday. Well, they did so this week, but what happened next is the problem. They serviced the dumpster but left it out on the street for 2 days after that. I also noticed that my neighbor's dumpsters were left on the street as well. Meanwhile, in spite of my asking my neighbors not to do so, some kept putting trash down the chute, while the dumpster was out on the street. I called the company on Wednesday to report that the dumpster was still out on the street. They did send someone to put it back, after about an hour. The guy who came was new, and didn't know which dumpster goes to which garage, even though they are clearly marked. He spent about half an hour going back and forth on the street, and calling to find out where the dumpsters go. I find this to be unacceptable. The company also services our recycling dumpster on a regular basis, but returns it to the garage promptly. Why can't that be done with the trash dumpster? Another pet peeve is the placement of neighbor's dumpsters. Some of my neighbors have their dumpsters serviced on Fridays. However, on Fridays there is also street cleaning, or lack there of recently, but the dumpsters are placed in the way, so that the street cleaning machine has to go around them. They could easily put them on the other side of the street to be out of the way. Lastly, I want to mention their customer service. Whoever answers the phone needs to be in a quiet place and be able to talk clearly, without so much background noise, so I don't have to shout to be heard. read more

West Hollywood Customer Service - Phone scheduling and follow-up on missed pickup are pleasant & professional. Excellent! Bulk item pickup not so much.... I scheduled a bulk item pickup for Friday and placed the items on the curb on Thursday afternoon. However, your company did not pick them up until Monday, leaving the items on the curb for a total of four days. This is not ideal, as it is unpleasant and sometimes a safety hazard to have trash sitting outside for that long. We have been using Athens for over 20 years at our home in 91108 and at two of our commercial properties in the 91104 area. Their service has always been excellent, but today really stood out. Yesterday was our trash day and someone had blocked access to the trash bin at one of our commercial properties, and Athens was unable to complete the pickup. I called their office at 7:00 AM, and the lady who answered was incredibly courteous and helpful in gathering all the necessary information. Shortly after, a gentleman called to explain that this would need to be treated as a special pickup because the driver didn't have keys to access the gate. They arranged for the driver to make another round once I was able to notified our onsite floor manager. In less than five minutes, the driver returned and successfully picked up the trash. What really impressed me was the constant communication -- I even received a courtesy call confirming that the pickup was completed. And this was all happening on a Saturday! IT IS A GREAT SATURDAY MORNING AND A GREAT DAY when experiencing real customer service by real people with great and pleasant personalities. I am hoping the city of 91108 area code stays with Athens and since we can choose our own trash in 91104 ourselves, we will continue to ask for their services. read more

After requesting new bins because they are always cracked due to the fact that they pick up two at the same time, I was told they would be delivered next trash day but to call and confirm the day before because they were backordered. I went ahead and called them the day before and was told that everything was set to go and that my new bins would be delivered the following day. Under a pouring rain I took my bins out and waited the whole day for my new bins. Towards the end of the day I finally called the company to find out if they would be delivered but I was told that I had been rescheduled for the following trash day. That means I would have to wait one more week. Not one single person called, no email or texts were sent to let me know the service had been rescheduled. If I had not called, my bins would have been left out there over night which is something the city frowns on. Horrible service. read more

I have been trying to resolve this issue for about 3 months, a barrel that I never received nor requested. I moved into a new place and started service with existing barrels. the agent set up my account had asked specifically how many barrels I have, where I told her 3 (1 black, 1 blue, 1 green). But then my invoice showed an extra green barrel is being charged! Anthony in your billing department is absolutely helpless and provided horrible service. here's a short synopsis: he questioned that why I reported the issue so late, I responded that the invoice was not easy to understand or read, I reported the issue once a clean clear invoice was received. For the new quarter, because I started service mid-quarter, which is their billing cycle. He replied, yes, our invoice is difficult to read, but still my fault not to thoroughly understand or obtain a Anthens invoice educational seminar! Is there one offered by your company? He went on to educate me about how to read the invoice. Great! but didn't I already answer his question of "why I didn't report the problem timely?" I don't need his "educational" piece. or belittling customer over the phone! If your company really care about this survey result, I'm open to discuss this further! Had to request 2 times on the website before someone emailed me. So far the email communications have been so unclear and ambiguous, and still no pick up date. They make trash pick seem like brain surgery. Sad to have no other option for trash collection and we are paying for this. As of now still no bulky pick up date. If Athens had any pride in the trash services they provide, they'd put themselves in a bin and haul it away. This company is terrible. I just tried to find another company, but I'm in Westwood and apparently they're signed to a contract with the city as the only trash pickup service so I'm stuck. A "rover" will take the bins outside so the actual trash truck can empty more efficiently. However, they continually take the bins of my apartment building outside and let them sit there, sometimes 1 to 2, even 3 days. All the while the trash is dropping onto the ground out of the trash chute from tenants oblivious to the lack of a bin while the bin is on the street for hours to days. I've complained to them and they tried to sell me a temporary bin while my regular bin is outside. They said I was SOL otherwise. This week due to the holiday, my Monday pickup was delayed to Tuesday. They did not show up. On Wednesday, they rolled my trash bin outside. It's now Thursday and my bin is still out there and still full. I called for a refund of the missed service, as I'm due for another pickup today. They said they'd have to file it with a supervisor. They do this often. In the past, they'll just empty the bin after missing service, and come back later in the day and empty the empty bin so they can say they haven't missed any services. Cherry on top, they've left commercial bins outside of the building in the red zone for the last 2-3 months blocking the vision of traffic for people going left out of the garage. They don't have a record of it, apparently, since they don't have an address of the people who requested the bins. These people suck. If you have a choice, please choose a less trashy option. read more

is there any other garbage pick up company besides this company? I live in Via Lopez, Palos Verdes Estates. this company is a worst. I call CS on wednesday, 9th July asking for the non recycle garbage pick up because I was out of town and these guys did not pick up these garbage on the last pick up on 4th of June. They only picked up the recycle garbage and the bin. They told me they will come to pick up on wednesday, if not, I will have to call back on Thursday. They did not come so I called back again on Thursday. they gave me a confirmation number saying they will come to pick up on Friday. I wait until now and does not see anyone coming so I call them again they tell me that there was someone to already pick up on Wednesday 11h45 so they could not send the driver to pick up even though they have not even returned the recycle bin so how come anyone has come? even the ones on Thursday mentioned that they would come on Friday. Every single time I call I am told "ONLY TANYA V can help you, she will call and get back to you." But she she never does.
