Plenty of space, lots of different areas to sit and study including some rooms that could be reserved. You do not need to be a local resident to use the library, only to borrow materials. They shelve items incorrectly and try to…read moresay you didn't return them. probably because they beg for volunteers to shelve who haven't any clue how to do this. also, I had a book that accidentally got damaged and wanted to replace it. there was an identical copy on Amazon for $4.99. They would not accept this because they wanted to charge me $37.00. If you do venture there hold onto your wallet. i have lived in many states and this is the worst library ever. I will never patronize them again.

I made a special trip out to this library to get my hands on a rare Southern cookbook…read more I really wanted to buy the book but it's out of print and hard to find. It wasn't available on Amazon or eBay but it did show up in online library catalogs. The UGA Main Library was the only one in the state of Georgia with a copy so it was totally worth the drive to Athens. I called ahead of time so that one of the librarians could pull the book and put it on hold for me. When I got there it was waiting for me at the circulation and reserve desk. Since I didn't have a student ID I imagined I might have to undergo an iris scan and cavity search before they would let me handle it. Instead, they just took a quick peep at my driver's license and passed it right over. Cue the kid in a candy store glee on my face! The librarian directed me a few yards away to the computer lab and their flatbed scanner. I was able to send high quality, color images of the book straight to my USB drive for free. Making digital copies was ideal since each print copy would have run 9 cents for black & white and 50 cents for color. Based on my experience, the UGA Library is a great resource not just for students but for visitors too. The staff is helpful, the facilities are modern and their resources are available to students and the public alike. Finding the rare book I needed in their collection made my weekend.

Cute little library tucked in a small town…read more Staff is super attentive and helpful. We were applying for our passports at this location thinking they wouldn't be busy, and it seems so was everyone else. With only one lady up front that knew how to process them, she was patient with each and everyone making sure everything was in order. Library is clean and welcoming. My boys enjoyed being there and had problem waiting with us. It took over an hour but we read, colored, and busy ourselves with their little activities. They also had books and dvds for sell which I need to go back to browse. Price ranged from 50 sents to two dollars.

Great to have a nice big bookstore with friendly, helpful staff in Athens…read more Selection of books and periodicals is fair. The premises are well kept and quiet for browsing. Most B&N stores have a similar layout with a coffee shop in one corner. Good location for finding gifts for bookworms, bibliophiles, lectiophiles, and kids. Easy to find on the corner of a strip mall next to a busy Athens thoroughfare. Lots of free parking in the adjacent lot.

I understand that sometimes you are busy at the store, but if your employer had an accurate online inventory of what you have in stock, I wouldn't need to call you for availability. I am the customer; I'm just trying to buy something and not bothering you during the day. Take it out on the real problem, not me. I have also had bad experiences in person, where reps are having conversations with other co-workers and completely ignore me as the customer while I am standing in the front of the line. This place is a hit or a miss with customer service.

Started with an informative presentation in the…read moreVisitor's Center that covered topics such as what to expect from the enrollment process to how to adjust to college life. We then took a bus/walking tour. Our tour guide, Hollis, was energetic and engaging. There were several tour groups on the buses, but Hollis led our group and did an outstanding job. As we walked, he took the time to have 1:1s with each student to get to know them and their interests better. Every member of the tour team did a wonderful job of making us feel welcome, sharing lots of information, and being open to answering questions. 10/10 experience highly recommend!

At the beginning of the day, I was not even sure that we'd visit here. However, their website noted…read morethat you had to make an advanced reservation to be admitted (per my understanding), so I dutifully made a reservation for 2. As it happened, we were able to make it here around 2:15 p.m. or so on a Saturday. We had visited once before over a decade previously, so I had no real recollection of it. The museum is located within a mile of the loop highway around Athens. We arrived and parked in the covered deck. To access the museum, you then walk down away from where you entered. I found the front desk and offered to show the young woman staffing it our tickets. She said that she did not have a way to actually scan those, so we were waived in... I liked a wall-exhibit as you enter: large letters spelling 'WELCOME' but formed from several types of mounted security cameras (none or some of which may be active...). You ascend a long stairway. to your left is some temporary exhibits. These were more of the 'modern art' variety. A series of rooms about Hiroshima and another room with sensory nausea-inducing video. In the opposite direction are the more static galleries. These are laid out roughly in accordance with art styles or time periods. There is a room devoted to colonial / antebellum Georgia, one devoted to Impressionism, one to 1930's Depression-era works, etc. I enjoyed these more than I did the modern wing. We finihsed up and headed out within an hour. The exhibit is free. Unless there is some travelling exhibit that is of particular interest, I don't think I'll likely be back within another decade, though.

Possibly you take the drive to eat at chef Hugh Atcheson's acclaimed "Five & Ten" restaurant. But are you familiar with the Georgia Museum of Art? Reason in itself to visit Athens. With a diversity of exhibits in galleries filling the second floor, you're bound to view something -- perhaps many things -- that stops you in your tracks. Representation by the de Koonings, Renoir, Cassatt, Okeefe and other acclaimed artists, you will also be turned on to talent you likely haven't heard of. I was captivated by the photography of Jim Fiscus as well as the gallery featuring work of black artists. Regarding logistics: the museum is open every day except Monday. Check their website for hours. Parking is free, as is the museum. But if you can, consider putting a few dollars in the kitty to help defray expenses.
