I had rotator cuff surgery on 1/16/25 for a full thickness tear of two ligaments, debriding, and…read moreother issues. The OR staff was wonderful, very attentive and kept me informed of everything that they were doing. HOWEVER: two issues that makes them less than "5" in this rating: 1) It took nearly two hours to be called to PreOp. This is many times longer than I have had to wait on any of my other five or so other surgeries. no explanation was given for the delay, no apology. I'm old, and this was major surgery and I resent being stressed to this degree; and 2) I was given a number to call with post op. questions, ending in -1663. On 1/18, I called that number, and could not connect to a person. After several attempts, I called another number, which said it was the "direct contact number" (3119) for the doctor's nurse. The call was routed to her answering machine, which explained that she would be away from her desk until Tuesday (!), and would call back then, quite uselessly. My understanding of 'direct contact" is different from this. I then called back the 1663, and, after a considerable time, was finally able to get someone to pick up an extension. I explained the issue, and he said he'd have to transfer me to the nurses' station. The next thing I knew, I was hearing the same recording from 3119, telling me I'd get a call back Tuesday. I called the 1663 again, and no one would pick up a line. Had I not had major surgery just two days before, and were not incapacitated from pain and narcotics, I might have kept trying; but I finally just gave up and Googled thus and another question that arose later. The nurse did call today, as promise. I explained my experience, and she said that she was in the OR with the doctor on Mondays, as if this somehow excused the fact that I had no person to answer my questions immediately following surgery. This is not okay, not acceptable, and should be addressed before someone is hurt. PostOp patients need 24/7 support, not lines that are not answered.

They deserve zero stars for how they mishandled the care of my 80 year old mother. She was passed…read moreoff to 3 different doctors who would not address her concern of her 25 year old failing knee replacement and her ongoing severe hip pain. After her 3rd appointment with a different doctor, I am filing a formal complaint with the Georgia Medical Board; "My 80-year-old mother, who suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and has recently developed severe hip pain, was scheduled for an important appointment at AOC, her third appointment, to determine whether she needed a hip replacement or an injection. We arrived at the clinic on time, only to be told that she had missed the appointment. We later found out that the appointment had been rescheduled without any notification, and she was incorrectly marked as a no-show. This caused significant disruption and hardship. I had to take the day off work and drive over an hour to pick her up. My brother also had to miss work to assist her in getting ready, due to her limited mobility and fall risk. At the clinic, we were given inconsistent explanations--first that the doctor was running behind, then that he had left for emergency surgery. In response, the staff offered to have another provider administer an injection--but clearly stated this would be done without an evaluation or consultation, and that she would not be seen as a patient. Since the purpose of the appointment was to evaluate whether an injection was even appropriate, my mother declined the treatment, now feeling extremely uneasy about the level of care and communication. She was now left in serious pain, untreated and without guidance, while we are being asked to take another day off work for a rescheduled appointment. We believe this situation reflects gross mishandling of care, negligent communication, and a lack of respect for elderly, vulnerable patients." We called Piedmont Orthopedic Clinic and they swiftly made an appointment, did xrays, and determined that her hip was end stage and that her knee replacement was indeed in poor condition and that both would need immediate replacement. She just had hip replacement with them and will have knee replacement scheduled as soon as she recovers. AOC also did xrays and MRI and CT and the most they recommended was physical therapy. This is absolutely absurd that after imaging they were not concerned in the least of her condition and then cancels her appointment. They should lose their licens.
