Came in here a year ago to see about getting daughter signed up for violin lessons. I brought in a violin I purchased on Amazon and the lady who was working there was very kind. She told me I got too big of a violin but we can always rent one (which I thought was fair). She also started to show me how to put it together. Well the gentlemen in the back, forget it. He got all upset, came to me and said I should just go home. Im wasting my time there. Really attempting to belittle me. I dont care if this guy won awards or is the almighty violin king. He is rude, impatient, and will definitely get an award of "biggest j*****s" by me. Go check out the other two music schools who were friendly, forthcoming, and professional. read more

Update: I received a call from the owner. I will reiterate that local shops in the area, who service instruments for some of the worlds most famous instruments and musicians, do not sell strings for triple the price. Additionally, the owner tried to tell me that I may not be "getting the real deal" from other shops. As a professional musician - I can tell the difference between real and fake strings. Shops in the area servicing real Stradivarius instruments are not selling fake strings. Reputable online retailers who serve professional musicians are also not selling fake strings. Additionally, the owner mentioned they provide a service of "installing" the string for you. As an educator, I can tell you that your teacher will do this for you. As a professional musician, I have no idea why this service would be offered to me - it is not common practice nor should it be. If the shop itself is indeed purchasing strings from the makers at double or triple the cost they can be found locally or online, I would have to question their ability to do business. As much as I would love to support a local business and a local music business, this predatory practice is unacceptable. read more

Horrible experience. A few years ago as a new customer, I was told I could change or upgrade my child's instrument at any time for a $50 change fee. When my child grew and I returned to do this, the owner added all sorts of new charges on my bill and pressured me to upgrade to a much more expensive instrument. When I politely declined, she said my child "must not be serious about being a musician, then."  SO RUDE and dishonest. I had to argue for 20 minutes to get her newly-invented fees off my bill. When I reminded her of the $50 change fee that was originally promised, she actually said that she was "just being nice" in the past, but now her policy had changed and there were new fees to pay. How can you run a business like this? read more

I have been going to this shop since 5th grade and am now a student in college.  The shop is very convenient and has saved me many times; I always go there if something happens, such as getting a broken string, and they fix if for a very reasonable price. I went to this string instrument store to get my violin fixed. My friend had received good service here and recommended it to me. Given it's only minutes from my home, I decided to give it a try despite of a couple of negative reviews on Yelp. The young man at the shop was very friendly and professional. He changed all four strings, recommended me to buy a new bow rather than re-hairing my old bow which had not been used or properly cared for for about 15 years. I also bought a basic chin rest there. So after only 10-15 minutes, my violin became playable again. The prices in the store may be slightly higher than the lowest price one can find on the internet in some instances, but the immediate service is well worth it. read more

When my son began playing the cello in 3rd grade, we were not picky about the instrument we rented. As it turns out, he LOVES to play and when he became really serious about it, we came to Atelier. He tried out a few of their beautiful instruments to find one he really liked. The staff is always really knowledgeable and helpful. We've been through a few cellos, bought lovely bows, had them rehaired and now he's 20 and still playing! Their love of the instruments and the appreciation of the musician is obvious! We've been using Atelier for years with great results. Our son began with a 1/8 violin and now has a full size one. Every time we moved up, Atelier found a great instrument. Tuning and service are included with rentals and the staff are as knowledgeable and friendly as any we've found. It's worth the drive from Westchester. I highly recommend Atelier. read more

Dishonest and rude. Seems like there are two different YELP listings for Atelier Constantin Popescu, so not sure if the company simply created another to deceive All in all, this is a rude and dishonest company that overcharges and changes their pricing to suit their own needs. I have been renting from them for a few years and then decided to purchase the instrument but they did not honor the pricing that I was given previously. Yes there are two yelp accounts so look closely folks. I can't even put it into words. Just awful. The owner doesn't even treat his employee with respect. The rudeness has definitely rubbed off on his employee as well. Never had an experience like this before. They write your credit card number down on a piece of paper rather than keep it in a safe secure computer system. With all the fraud nowadays they should know better. Even their receipt prints with the full credit card number on it and in addition he wanted to write my three digit security code on the receipt that he keeps. I have never seen that before. I was willing to give an extra deposit rather than have my credit card number written down but there was no bending at all from their stringent policies. Customer service here is non-existent! read more

I have frequented this shop for years and I send all of my students here. They simply have the best rental instruments around. No one else sends out instruments as well set up as this shop. I have had them work on my own violin and been most satisfied with their care of my instrument and my bows. They restored an old bow for me that is now my favorite. This place is truly unique in every sense. Constantin carries a rich background of a top-notch professional musician (having performed with the New York Philharmonic among other groups) and an extremely experienced string instrument repairer and sound adjustment specialist. Having his roots in Romania, an amazingly musical country, complements his professional profile. I have personally dealt with him and his business for many years, having also sent my students to rent, repair and purchase instruments there. Myself and my students and their parents have always had the most positive and highly professional feedback. Constantin imports the instruments from Europe which has a long and beautiful luthier tradition so the highest quality is expected and guaranteed. Shockingly rude and racist service at this local Music store ... on a pleasant early summer day I tried to return a rented Cello ... the lone attendant took, handled and processed several phone calls while I was waiting ... When he returned to me after about 15-20 minutes, I said "that was rude" and that he should've attended to me rather than take several calls that started after I arrived and he had begun to process my return ... He told me to "Shutup you brown asshole" and asked me if I could "read" pointing to my coffee! (which I'd retrieved from my car while waiting for him to get back to me) ... I luckily decided not to jump over the counter and throttle him ... I told him that since he was ignoring me, I chose to ignore his tiny unobvious sign ... he then proceeded to claim that the rubber ball on the metal rod on the bottom of the Cello was "ruined" (it was scuffed) and that I owed him $6 ... I reminded him that we purchased insurance for the instrument and that the "damage" was expected, incidental/inconsequential and covered ... He said the insurance was for "accidents" not "negligence"... I told him to just try and charge me for the damage and see where that gets him ... I walked out without having committed an entirely justifiable assault ... Never going here again!! read more

DISHONEST AND RUDE is how I would sum up their customer service. I rented a violin for my son and had to bring it in for repair. I was told it would take 2-3 days to fix. When 3 days went by and still no phone call, I called to inquire. He replied, "Well, if it was ready we would have called YOU!" Really??! Wow, that's how you talk to your customers?? Unreal. I then asked if it was going to be ready by the end of the day because he needed it for his Monday violin lessons. He replied "I'm not sure". Then I asked if they gave out rentals in the interim and he said "Did you ask for one when you brought the violin in?' Duh. No! You said the repair would only take 3 days. Finally, when I received the call later that day to pick it up, he said that the repair cost $150 and I needed to pay a $15 co-pay fee. I asked 'Why is there a fee if I bought the insurance?' He simply said, "We have to charge a fee". He then ran to the back to get the woman manager and she immediately had an attitude with me, going on and on about how the violin is $1,000 and they are a business, etc, etc. I said, I am not asking you any of that, I'm asking if it states anywhere in the insurance contract if I have to pay any type of 'co-pay' for damage. She said no. I said 'Well then why I am being charged?' She said 'If you don't want to pay it, don't pay it!' Unbelievable! Dishonest AND Rude! Needless to say, we will be taking our business elsewhere at the end of our 4 month contract! read more
