    Smoky Mountain Docks

    Smoky Mountain Docks

This past winter, the wife and I met with Austin and discussed the purchase and construction of a…read morenew dock. Austin and his team are top notch. Austin took care of the permit process for us and kept us informed of the build and installation. I will say his employees Chance and Eli have excellent customer service skills. Never owning a dock, I had many questions and they answered all of them and assured me we would be very happy. Well summer is almost here and we are looking forward to using the new dock. Thank you Austin and your crew. We are very fortunate and happy we found your company. Keep up the great work! If y'all need a dock, look no further as Smoky Mountain docks is the place to go.

It has been decades since we were taken such advantage of. Austin's quality of work and delivery is…read moreonly matched by his arrogance towards us as now past customers. First Austin claimed we had 5 feet of water at the average winter pool. This is an average winter pool. He did not measure the depth as he claimed. Before providing Austin 50% down, he commented on trees that would have to be cleared. Which I assume were the two extremely large and dead pine trees. One leaning directly toward the dock. Now Austin did clear these trees as an additional 'favor' to me. At additional cost. But his initial response, once he had the deposit, was 'we do only docks'. Or more properly Smoky Mountain Docks slams in product and demands full payment with no concern for customer expectations of quality workmanship. This brings me to complete unwillingness to clear the dead tree from under the dock. I complained about it. To which Austin replied it will be easy to clear when the water is higher. No, the tree trunk lifting and distorting the dock is a full tree. Which is deeply stuck. Even a large come along did not budge it. Austin had promised to cut the old piles. It is true someone came down with a wood and nail Sawzall blade and hacked at it. Which of course did not work. So Austin called to let me know he did not know how to cut the pile. Well, a neighbor did which is shown in the picture. Nearly halfway through in five minutes with a proper carbide blade on a good battery Sawzall. It was even a well-worn blade. Which I broke. Given the weight of the pile and the need to control the fall, I did not return and attempt it myself. Now Austin claims all of this will not hurt the dock. So it is our problem now. He had promised months ago to come to a look at the problem. Auston of course did not keep his word, again. He now says that maybe in 4 or 5 months, he will come down. Then charge us another huge amount to clear the dead tree from under the dock. I had promise Austin not to do the review his behavior deserved. If he just kept his word to cut the old piles to take the pressure off the gangway. Especially as the picture proved it could be done with basic proper tools. Silly me to expect integrity or any level of maturity from Austin. As long as this review is, it could be much longer. I have contacted other real dock builders to see what will be necessary to clean up Austin's mess. So my only purpose here is to warn other new retirees coming to Tennessee not to get trapped by Austin and his Smoky Mountain Docks. Please run rather than walk away from Austin and his company.

It's unfortunate that I must leave this review.. but with all the issues I was left with, I feel I…read moremust let others know. Firstly, the roof did turn out beautiful. Andrew was friendly and upfront about costs. He went over every part of the roof and anything that needed to be addressed. However.. He sent people over to my house at night without letting me know, I asked him not to do this- as I'm a female living alone. (which he did send guys here again, at nighttime with no notice). They decided to pick up the trailer at night, and damaged my retaining wall. In the morning, when I woke to find the damage, there was no messages on my phone from him. When I called, he said he "forgot to give me a call". The guys came out, without notice, at night, to fix it.. right before a rainstorm.. not the smartest. Next, if you expect that the roofing nails will not be found all over your yard since the contract says they run a magnet, well, so far I've found about 40. Stated on the contract, it does say things need to be removed from the walls... but I didn't think about ceiling light fixtures. Two panels broke, and again response was, "it's in your contract we're not responsible." Ok, I get that.. my fault.. Now, this is where I became more frusterated after all the other issues. They damaged two seperate parts of my gutters that DID NOT leak previously. Yes, they were old, but they wern't dagmaed. Again, when I let Andrew know, he said "it's in the contract we aren't responsible to damage to gutters". If you want an affordable roof, go with this company. However, be aware that you will likely have to deal with a series of issues afterward. Because between the retaining wall, my $300 ceiling light that can't be fixed, my gutters being damaged and a flat tire from the nails.. I'm very disappointed in Andrew. Also, if you expect him to be the lead on the crew and to be here to communicate with, as him employees don't speak english.. he won't be.
