Short version: Virtual Accounting and Tax is not a CPA firm. It's a one man operation run by…read moreRichard Roy. Richard makes tons of mistakes and spends a tremendous amount of billable time fixing those mistakes. Avoid at all costs! Long version: Our small business was looking for a CPA firm back in 2022. I contacted a firm that wasn't taking on any new clients, but referred us to Richard Roy. He promised to fix all kinds of issues he said he found and really sounded like he was competent. First red flag, he also does bookkeeping for clients as well. Keep in mind he is a one man operation with no team. Since bookkeeping took quite a bit of time and attention he way overcharged for this service. Plus, he kept saying our bank had update issues so it took him much longer to 'fix' everything. Next and biggest red flag, he was totally clueless on how to account for the ERTC program. I'm not making this up, I actually had to tell him how to handle it and he ended up doing it my way. Then, he said he had to file amendments on our corporate returns for 2021 and 2022! I was super unsure about this, but he was insistent so he did. Of course, there were more fees for this and we ended up owing more money to the IRS. After about a year of ongoing incompetence I finally had to fire him. There were several other issues, but I always tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. We just got a letter this week from the IRS. The amendments he filed were incorrect regarding the ERTC and we now have to get this all rectified. Richard will not answer his phone or return any calls. Now, it looks like I'm going to have to waste a lot more time to fix this and then take him to court. What a waste of time and money. Save yourself a ton of trouble and steer way clear of this guy!
