Great programs. Love that if a book isn't available at the particular branch you can have it sent her for pickup. Nice convenient hours.

The baby classes are awesome and free! We especially love going here during the summer for all of their neat daytime events!

Not my favorite library. It was very loud with kids running around everywhere. Not a very great book selection either.

Right when you walk in they have a books store where you can scroll through so many hard to find titles. Reminds me of my days of hanging out in a Half Price Book Store location. They also have a drive thru for book returns. How cool is that. Not sure if other locations have this, the only one I've seen was the Freeman Library in Clear Lake when I lived there. It is open post Covid and they do have their hours and contact info updated on their website. I was looking for a quiet place to get some work done and do some reading. I am so glad I decided to swing by to see what's new here.

As you drive up to it and park, it may portend disappointment, but "Don't Judge a Book by its Cover." Let me explain. Kingwood is a master planned community that has some cachet, containing many named and themed neighborhoods, and it is the farthest northeasterly tentacle of the city of Houston. However, as you approach this library, you are looking at the short side of a big rectangle. The library entrance is reached by following a trellised path down its side. Then, when you turn and enter the library, you finally realize it's a substantial two level facility. Most of the key areas in the Kingwood Branch Library are upstairs. This would include the stacks, open study areas with tables, study rooms, computers, and very comfortable lounge-like reading areas, the latter of which will not be suitable for "lounge lizards." Downstairs, one finds circulation, a children's area, community rooms, restrooms, and even a used bookstore. However, with its high ceilings and big windows, the upstairs makes for a very likable place to be. With Kingwood branding itself as the "livable forest," the windows bring in the abundant verdant aspects of this area and, even if ridiculously hot outside, provide a soothing feeling inside. This is a fitting library for this relatively newer area. The staff at this library is very helpful. They were on point with helping me with my low maintenance needs ... and did so with a smile! Another thing to note is a bureaucratic issue that might confuse some. Since it is within the city of Houston proper, one might think it's a branch of the Houston Public Library (HPL). It is not, although there are many HPL branches. Instead, the library in Kingwood is part of the Harris County Public Library system. That said, some of the libraries in H-town will be HPL libraries, while others in the city, and in nearby municipalities, will be in the Harris County Public Library system. They are not one and the same.

Kingwood Branch Library - Here you see the "livable forest" that is Kingwood outside and seating that reminded me of a Cutlass Supreme I once had.

Kingwood Branch Library - This is a vast area upstairs with tables.  It's spacious and airy, but still manages to be cozy.

This library is truly a blessing. This is the ONLY 24 hour library I could find in Houston, the…read moreother library systems close way too early for my tastes since I'm a night owl studier. The 24 hour schedule runs Sunday-Thursday, so not 24/7 but 24/5 (says the receptionist and it's currently the fall semester as I type this review). If you're a non-student like me (I'm post-grad studying for boards) you'll have to borrow a rice student ID or find a way to sneak in. ... Just kidding! They're visitor friendly. Just present your drivers license to the receptionist at the visitor entrance, which faces the giant-open-spaced-courtyard (east side of building). They have a ton of cubicles, tables, and study rooms here, and all of them have outlet plugs!! The cheapest parking lot is the Greenbriar lot. It's the farthest from the library but is only $2/day versus closer lots that are $1 per 15 min, maxed at like 3 hours a day. Womp. The walk from Greenbriar to the library is about 20 minutes. I know it doesn't sound like much, but if you don't work out like me and the weather's been around 90 degrees... that walk lasts forever, and you'll arrive at the library covered in sweat. (Trust me, I speak from experience). Luckily... I discovered the bus system and my sweaty problems were solved. The Greenbriar/RVA bus route will pick up from Greenbriar lot and drop you off near the library. Take advantage of it! Save your energy for studying!

Excellent library!! They also allow non-Rice students to enter which is nice (just need to present…read morephoto ID) with guest WiFi. Plenty of study spaces with outlets. They even have a seed garden! (Can take 3 seed packets per person). Very cool!
