We'd originally gone there seeking the Delice but as we walk through the door, I see the cheesemonger literally spooning out the gorgonzola into a container & it was love at first sight Grabbed a baguette from around the corner & dinner was served. That Gorgonzola was INCREDIBLE! Oozy, gooey, mild but tons of flavor The Delice de Pommard was a cream cheese with mustard seed husks from the Burgundy region Also offering wines, oils and lots of other temptations, Alain Hess is well worth a visit. If you do go, pick me up some of that Gorgonzola!

The array of cheeses -- all lovingly displayed in a large glass case -- is enough to make any cheese lover salivate and instantly reach for his wallet. The wine shop downstairs is also impressive. Of course you are not going to find any of the highly collectible stuff, but there is a very good selection (of Burgundy, of course!) at decent prices. You can also find a good selection of hand harvested sea salt, high end chocolate, such as Bonnat, and Fallot mustard.

Customers are rushing around, clerks are all over the place but they can't help because they are new at work or they can't speak English. The place is like a beehive with self- check. Great place to get French food items or minimalist style /city style clothing. Prices are reasonable. They sell home, garden supplies too. They do not sell pharmacy items like aspirin or cough lozenges. Everything is French produced here. Superb place to purchase France's food souvenirs to take home. Reasonable prices.

I especially like their jambon persillé (ham and parsley aspic terrine), a regional dish that is ubiquitous in Burgundy, as well as their duck liver paté. They also have a selection of very tasty saucisson (dry cured sausage) that they will slice for you. Finally, in the mornings they offer freshly-roasted chickens, but be sure to get there early, because they go quick, and once they're out, they're out. The only thing that would make this place better is having Bresse chicken. But I guess you can't win them all.

I know I'm not at a carrefour in some ghetto arrondissement in Paris but c'mon. Seafood and most meats in the frozen sections are empty. The shelves are slightly in disarray and the staff were nonchalant. The bread isle was barren and all the veggies have wilted. Still all the bells and whistles of a full-service Carrefour, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
