Today, these kindergarteners got to help out by sorting through the candy, and as you guessed, they loved it! The two guy workers who were here were so informative, fun, and patient with our girls. We got to walk around and tour the first floor and see all the ins and out of the food bank, which was so impressive. I won't attempt to spout any facts I've learned on this tour, except that the GBR Food Bank only has 6 employees, so everything else is volunteers - so cool considering how huge of an organization it is. They do a family night for volunteers on one Tuesday of the month, so we're definitely planning to come back to help! No age minimum, just register ahead of time. As far as helping out the food bank, there are many ways to do it. They said that time is truly the most helpful. However, donating food, donating money, helping to spread the word for others, etc. are all great things. Spread the word and do anything you can to help out our community in need. Lastly, it's not just food that can be donated. They have diapers and dog food too. So many ways to help this great organization.

I love this YMCA so much. It's very big and nice with many facilities. With group classes, plenty…read moreof cardio equipment including rowers and stair-steppers, plenty of free weights and machines, locker rooms, showers, tennis courts, outdoor pool, splash pad, and kids zone. Everyone is very nice and friendly. I do have ONE complaint. One evening when my son was in the kid zone and I picked him up he needed a diaper change. I asked where the changing table was and they pointed to the kids bathroom. I walked up as a 7 yr old boy was finishing using the bathroom. Since many kids use that bathroom unattended it gets pretty filthy. The trash can was overflowing and actually easily accessible and open so that kids could easily play in the trash, and it looks like they had been. The changing table was very small and my 15 month old barely fit. I changed him as quickly as possible and told myself I would never change him in there again. I felt bad putting the diaper in the trash hoping that another child wouldn't fish it out and play with it. So my request is to ask that the bathrooms in kid zone are checked and cleaned more frequently and maybe a better spot for the staff to change toddlers. For parents, no matter how fun a kids area can be, cleanliness can be a deal breaker. Thank you!

Unfortunately this is no longer the case and vets are treated the same as everyone else). I do talk to other vets almost weekly and over this period of time ive been told by other disabled vets that most have left the y for various reasons, but majority saying they are tired of the BS. I now attend americana ymca and over the past few years have noticed regular members quitting this location for roughly the same reasons. Members are leaving because regular members are being neglected at the expense of "a mini one time grant coming in here and a mini grant coming in there". We have been trying for as long as I can remember to have more handicap parking spaces add to no avail (even after being to that the parking lot was being repainted in March 2026. The parking lot was painted but not one extra handicap space was added to the lot. It seems and feels. what's going to end up happening is all the YMCA's long standing loyal members will end up leaving and they can live from "hand out one time grant to the next". Management doesn't even keep its loyal hard working awesome employees abreast of what's going on, making them look like the ones who are slacking. But the blame clearly goes to the management NOT THE EMPLOYEES! I drive 40 minutes a day to do my physical therapy only to find the pool closed with No Notice.

The Coop believes kids learn best by being kids... playing, going barefoot, exploring, asking questions, and learning by doing. It's joyful, messy, and exactly how childhood should be. I'm certain my daughter's strong sense of independence and self-confidence have been shaped in part by her time there. And then there is the community. The parent work days and events have led to some of the greatest friendships. Leaving for Kindergarten is bittersweet. We are so grateful to everyone at The Coop for helping us raise such a capable, curious, joyful little human.

Southside has great child to teacher ratios and I absolutely LOVE having a professional chef serving food to my kids. I have used LSU's daycare and their staff were not nurturing or respectable at all to my kids! They didn't provide the 'care' that I needed my children to have while I was at work. Southside's staff is so friendly, I feel safe leaving my child at Southside. Also Southside's owner is a sweetheart, and she really knows her way around the childcare business. I HIGHLY recommend that you check this place out, you owe it to yourself (and your kid). The quality of care at this daycare Is incomparable, this truly is the best childcare service in Baton Rouge and I recommend this place if you are looking for a childcare service in the Baton Rouge area.
